The Opelu bite was crazy! + A bonus Uku (Job Fish)

My first fishing trip in 2021 to catch my first fish of the year. Launched the Kayak out of Honolulu, Oahu at 5:00AM to go on a search for some Halalu (Goggle Eye/Big Eye Scad) for bait then got side tracked by a cloud of Menpachi's that took up my entire night phase. Once the sun peaked I went to catch Opelu (Mackerel Scad) for bait and for dinner. I ended up catching just over 4 dozen pieces total. At 11am-2pm I went on a hunt for a Mahimahi which turned out to be a bust, so I went for a Plan B and targeted the next best fish, An UKU(Blue-Green Snapper/Job Fish) The fish that saved my day.

This outing was the first Sunday of the year. I went out this past Sunday and I thought we were gonna die outside lol. We were paddling for 2hrs and not even moving until the wind died a little. I don't even want to imagine Kailua's winds. Scary!!, I'm glad you got home safe. 🤙🤙🤙
