This is a really cool use case. I don't usually think of professors when I think of note taking tablets, but it makes a lot of sense.

    Thank you! Very informative!
By the way, with 3.1 update they introduced swipes from the bottom of the screen - you can configure Back, Home Multitask buttons there.

As Lazy man pointed out earlier in the comments, I think it would have been easier for you to rest your hand on the screen after you turn on palm rejection. It's the icon of a hand in the toolbar option on the side, just touch that to get an icon with a slash mark across the hand. This will signal the Note Air to reject your touch input and only "respond" to the stylus while note-taking. The toolbar itself is still responsive to touch input for obvious reasons though when you want to switch back or select other options.

@fmagic2000able After using the device for two weeks now, I quickly learned the utility of turning off and on palm rejection. Definitely a MUST! Thanks! =]

Thank you for the informative video.
As a leftie, while I appreciate Boox going through the trouble of implementing a left handed mode, I wish they'd move the "full screen" button to the right in Notes (and when in full screen, the menu slider)!

I am looking these devices up specifically for the same use: as a way to share my notes to students as I make them. The note Air look like the perfect device, and this video was very clarifying. However, I am not sure how the Wireless Screen solution would work in my University wifi, where hundreds of devices are connected. Did you found any similar solution for USB connection?
Still, thank you very much for this video. It was very informative, and I am sure your students will appreciate the extra care you are taking in these hard times.

Hi, @Viniclus! Thanks for the kind words. I have not searched for a USB solution. You are correct that the Boox Note Air has a USB C connection for power and data, so I would guess that an Android 10 screen sharing solution over USB would be worth a try. It is my understanding that the Android / Windows 10 WiFi screen share has been available for a while and works for most situations. I don't know how much wireless bandwidth it requires, but I've read lots of solutions of people using it to stream full-screen video while playing games without much complaint about lag. I would guess that this WiFi screen share would be differential to conserve bandwidth and improve performance. The amount of data needed to live screen handwriting should be very minimal.
If you already have an Android Phone, I would suggest trying the WiFi solution between your Phone and Windows 10 at your University to check its performance before experimenting with the purchase of the Note Air if that is your main use case. The Spring Semester has not yet started, so screen sharing has not been a priority over the past few weeks of owning the device, but I absolutely LOVE it as an E-Ink reader with backlit screen and for taking notes. I'm sure iPad owners have been using their devices this way for years, but the Boox Note Air is a game changer for me. Good Luck!

Hey, nice video, thanks! Just a tip. You can swipe from the left-bottom up to see the open apps. It's quicker than use the bubble and then click on the icon. Well, maybe you know that already and just prefer the way you do :)

    Hi William,
I teach Math and Physics. I am thinking of buying a Boox Tablet for similar purposes. Do you still use it after 3 years and do you feel like it's a good fit for teaching?
    Thanks!

Howdy! Thanks for the comment. I still tote my Boox around in my laptop bag and use it as a standard ePaper reader and electronic note taking device. Now that we are (THANKFULLY!) back to face-to-face teaching with my college students, my use case has changed. I no longer have my podcasting studio setup that I created to record and live stream my classes. The Laptop I mentioned is a Dell 2-in-1 convertible Windows 11 laptop that I can use with a stylus when I need to hand write information (especially physics problem solving). I changed Universities after the pandemic and now I teach advanced courses in instrumentation with upper-classmen and graduate students. We are most often solving problems in a mentor situation so we are most often sharing a physical whiteboard. For the use case of teaching Math and Physics, the Boox Tablet was an awesome solution. Best of luck! =]

Thanks, @Mohd Zh... This is my personal device. It is not an evaluation unit. I am quite pleased with it and it is serving me as I had hoped so far. But as E-Ink sector continues to grow, I'm sure there will be some awesome alternative products. I became interested because of the advertising of the reMarkable 2, but I have need of a unit now and did not want to wait 6+ months for delivery...

Screen Cast elegantly solves the 'hidden from view problem' when writing. Your video only briefly mentioned that your left hand inadvertently presses and selects options in the vertical bar menu... a real nuisance. There is a solution for left handed people. It basically moves the vertical strip of the menu options from the left side of the screen to the right side. When you initially set up the device it will ask if you are left or right handed. Making the proper selection will set up your screen based on your selection. I have looked for a way to change that once the system has already been set up for right hand operation, but I could not find it. There must be a way other than doing a full reset, which would lose your info on the device. Hope you can find it.

Even in left hand mode, in Notes, the max screen button remains on the left (and when max screen mode, the menu slider).

Haven't tried, but perhaps have a look at these? The Onyx Boox Note Air is an Android 10 device, so methods for casting Android should work. www.maketecheasier.com/cast-android-screen-linux-desktop/ ; letsview.com/mirror-android-to-mac.html

On my Boox Note Air Screen Cast is redrawing when i lift the stylus. In this video seems that it is redrawing continuously ... how do you do this?

@@WilliamLWeaver I have tested this in your scenario (with Win 10) and i have noticed that it works perfectly with continuously redrawing. Scenario described earlier was with Win 8.1 (or with Win10 but without Wifi) and additional tools which was using, as a transport layer, Google Cast; with Miracast (Win10 on Wifi only) its working better!
It a pity that Google Cast redrawing only when stylus is lifted :/

There is a program called Screen Copy that allows you to see the screen of any android device on the PC screen by connecting it via USB. Have you tried it with the Onyx? Can you make a video tutorial recording the screen of the device while speaking, as can be done for example on a Samsung device (with the Spen and screen recorder like Mobizen)?

      @WilliamLWeaver  5 місяців тому

Hi @shawngormley.... sorry I am so late with my reply. Just saw your new comment. I also struggled with the "connect" window going full screen when launched. I created a work around by launching it full screen and then using a right-mouse click to "pin" this application to the windows taskbar. When I launch it from the taskbar is opens "windowed". Not sure why this is the behavior, but it worked for me. I mentioned the work around in the video but didn't add any emphasis to the comment. Hope this works for you! =]

If I understand your questions correctly, are you asking if the device will auto rotate from the Portrait orientation I am using in this video to "sideways" Landscape orientation, then YES. It is an Android 10 tablet that support auto rotation if you have that feature enabled in the status bar.

Hi David. My Note Air has also been updated and is currently running Build Number: 2021-11-30_18-30_3.2_5bcc60 (3.2). The screen cast button is now accessed by pressing on the status cluster in the upper right corner of the screen (with brightness, refresh, network, and battery indicator icons). From the control panel that pops up, my screen has four (4) square icons along the bottom of this panel, with the leftmost for orientation lock, followed by the screen cast button displaying the typical "Google Chromecast" icon of a square with a wireless web logo on the bottom left of the icon square. Pressing this icon brings up another box titled "Cast screen to device" that lists all of the Chromecast receivers and my Windows machine. Does this help?

@@WilliamLWeaver thank you for your efforts here. Sadly for me though, it didn’t help me. I wonder if I can put a photo here? I see an icon that looks like brightness, screen lock, Bluetooth. Wifi, battery level. But no screencast icon. I know what the screen cast icon looks like because I’ve used it on my iPhone several times. I cannot for the life of me find that icon anywhere in any system menu on this device! Looks like I cannot post a picture.

I followed all the instructions but it doesn’t seem to be taking. So I seem to be destined to struggle every step of the way, lol.
