Looks like a great book. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but I only watch the movies and live-action shows, so the 50% of the book about the cartoons, comics, books, etc. would be lost on me, as you mentioned. Excellent video!

      @@GeekritiqueI am glad
      That the official timeline book
      Don’t mention
      Tales of the Jedi
And vaguely mentions the Ahsoka novel
      The timeline is canon
      The vague events
The POV version of the story are subjective
      I like that
It makes the offical Star Wars canon feel real
Like a real history or mythology being documented from different perspectives
It’s not a retcon whatsoever like in the old legends days that were never truely canon
This is just another POV or dramatisation
Like the Harry Potter Books to Movies

I totally agree with you, Dakota. But I don’t think you have to worry too much about it. They have to print a reissue at some point here in the next couple of years, so they can include all the newer titles, such as Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, The Acolyte, Andor, Bad Batch S2, Mandalorian S3, and Jedi: Survivor.

My issue isn’t that it’s out of date. Any future update will also be out of date. My issue is it doesn’t reference what titles these plotted events come from.

Great review, and I agree with you about the lack of source citation. Had the book of cinematic monsters that my father got my brother and myself when I was a child (he was most likely concerned we wouldn't be able to appreciate the cinematic importance of "Abbot And Costello Meet Frankenstein"...a great movie, really!) I would never have been drawn to seek out Paul Wegener's "The Golem: How He Came into the World" (1920) or Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" (1927) and my world would be less for it.
Keep up the great work, looking forward to your next video.

    @Lr.Laecro.Lirus3445 Рік тому +2

It's an overall fantastic book, but there are defenetly issues I have with it:
    - There is one misinformation at the Last Jedi-section, which says, that Luke intended to kill Ben Solo, when he sensed the darkness in him, which just isn't true.
    - Much information about the shows were lacking, that could've explained different events later on. Like Reva kidnapping Leia twice unbeknownst to the rest of the Empire, Boba Fett telling he wants to rule with respect instead of fear, as the cruel treatment of the Pyke-Syndicate with the Tuskens changed his perspective, Obi-Wan telling Leia to keep their relationship a secret, Leia being able to survive in space thanks to the force, Asajj Ventress motivation to not deliver the chest on Quarzite, Holdo making a one in a million-shot with her maneuver and so forth
    - It stated, that the First Order was established in 21 ABY, even tough it was actually 14 ABY
    - Some books and comics from the High Republic and Downfall of the Jedi-Era don't really get much further exploration. Master and Apprentice, Dooku: Jedi Lost (especially the framework-story, which was missing completely), Dark Disciple, Kanan: First Blood (which they completely forgot was even a thing) and they did the High Republic Adventures and Trail of Shadows completely dirty.
    - I feel like, because Clone Wars is such a huge show in general, they weren't able to put more detail into individual episodes, which is bit of a shame.
    - Force Collectors story was stopped halfway trough and if someone was looking for the Alien Species-book (stories from Unkar Plutt, Bobajjo and so on), the Canto Bight-short storys or the framework-story of Legends of Luke Skywalker they won't find anything here
    - The Doctor Aphra-comics were handled (while still perfectly fine), seem to be so short almost on purpose, because they're just too obscurre for some people and more adult-oriented. Only the Rings of Vaale-story being handled in like two or three sentences really annoyed me.
    - Not the same amount of detailed description was felt into every medium. As the Clone Wars-part of Catalyst, the Thrawn-Ascendancy-Trilogy, Tarkin, Lords of the Sith or the Ahsoka-novel fell short. And for some reason these authors really didn't like the character of Alecia Beck
    - Some of the placements timeline-wise didn't really made much sense. Like putting Halcyon Legacy issue 3 after the Battle of Sullust, the Boushh-one shot comic somewhere between the already very messy War of the Bounty Hunters-event, instead of just after it, placing certain events of Dark Disciple still in 20 BBY, the first two volumes of the Vader-comics even before the actual ending of the Empire Strikes Back, which is a pretty insane choice for me or putting the beginning of the Thrawn-novel in 14 and not 15 BBY, but that's just a very minor complaint
    - Everything to do with the flashbacks of Cobb Vanth in the Mandalorian Season 2 was completely excluded for...reasons.
    - While I understand to not have the time to include a lot of the more recent content, it still is annoying, that Brotherhood and Padawan have such limited descriptions and the Crimson Reign-comics/comic-event along with the Obi-Wan-comic series or the fifth issue of Halcyon Legacy are not even mentioned with an ounce, while the Book of Boba Fett and Kenobi get all the room they deserve.
While all those make it seem like I'm overall disappointed by the book, I still had a lot of fun with it and it's perfect for people who really don't know that much about Star Wars.

  • @JSeedProductions

My two biggest issues are: how they used 0. And how they sectioned it, they say these are officially how the eras are separated, when nearly everything that came before this book says it’s wrong. (For example, saying the Reign of the Empire starts after The Bad Batch).

    • @Geekritique
      @Geekritique  Рік тому +2

I think it’s more sectioned off by years and not by what titles fit where. Technically the reign of the Empire begins before Bad Batch, but the actual years of 18 BBY to 1 BBY fit better as a group.

Look I know this has nothing to video but it involves timelines, which is what your good at, soo
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE
ok so in into the spider verse, Peter Parker’s grave claims he died in 2018, and across the spider verse claims to be a year and 4 months after. I think that into the spider verse takes place in December because that’s when it was released, and the movie prominently shows snow. If we add the year and 4 months we get to April 2020 for across the spider verse, which would seem correct, but if you take into consideration the sacred timeline (WITH BRANCHES) shown in the movie, it would seem that this takes place after Loki circa October 2023, and this is canon to the MCU because of the many references. We also know that across the spider verse has to be after no way home’s spell circa November 2024. I think that into the spider verse was ret conned, to take place in December 2023, so then 1 year and 4 months later in April 2025 is when across the spider verse takes place. I think this works because they act like the multiverse stuff in no way home was kind of recent
To recap here’s how I would place these movies
Loki - late October - maybe early November 2023
    Eternals - late November 2023?
Into the spider verse - early December, no talk of Christmas so probably earlier
    Shang-Chi - I think April 2024 I don’t feel like checking
For across the spider verse i would put it like this
No way home - late November 2024
    Hawkeye - December 2024
Across the spider verse - early April 2024, seems like early spring
    Black Panther 2 - late April 2025

FULL OF ERRORS. One for example is that it contradict other canon material putting the the Old Republic foundation c. 20000 BBY instead of 25000 BBY as we can find in The Star Wars Book from Hidalgo and some other material coming from Build the Millennium Falcon which states that Cato Neimodia joined the Republic in 25000 BBY and Neimodia, colonized by Duros, in 22000 BBY. So, what is canon at this point? In my opinion what we find in more sources. If you have an explanation I'm interested in your own opinion. Thanks.

It’s a nebulous number that can be retconned with ease, because there’s currently no story content in that timeframe. Perhaps this is an updated understanding. Perhaps this is a mistake. Perhaps it doesn’t matter, because there’s no contextual evidence to back it up.
