I hatched out 5 chicks in my incubator and put them out with the others at about two weeks. At the time I had a hen actually hatch a couple chicks. At first she was hostile but after about a week I noticed her "mothering" them and they seem to be taking her direction pretty well so, you never know.

Omgee thank youu for this video! I recently bought 4 baby chicks myself from tractor supply and haven't been able to merge them together with my 2 hens yet. They will be 6 days old tomorrow and that is what I am planning to do for tomorrow night. Wish me luck 👍

Love a story with a happy ending. You got lucky though. I had a hen that left her clutch after 2 hatched out. Apparently the clutch was staggered. Not wanting to lose the other eggs I popped them into the incubator and hatched 3 then just after they fluffed out I took them back to the momma that was isolated with her other two chicks. Everything was fine for 2 days but late on the third day she decided she would scalp two of the three new chicks. Apparently they were not as quick to follow her around and her instincts told her that to protect the main group she couldn’t be distracted by two stragglers. They’re much smarter than we think and they know how to survive. And that has to be one of the most docile hens I’ve ever seen. She didn’t even make a noise when you were moving her around.

It's honestly fascinating how every chicken is literally so different and unique. I had one Malay refuse to nest in anything other than the top of our wardrobe on top of our finest linen sheets lol. Her sister prefers the scrub on the ground and unlike the first, will not tolerate being pat at all. The first adopted chicks that are not hers. I wouldn't risk with the second one, I think she will K*ll them.

One of our hens, chickie-chick started brooding. She sat on her eggs and we had to struggle to get them from her.
    This continued for many weeks.
She finally came out of her broodiness and jointed the rest of the flock up till I found her dead the other evening.
I just figured she couldn't take the heat we recently had for awhile.
Although I placed large blocks of ice in the water bowls and fed them overly ripe cold watermelon too. The other chickens loved it.

😂❤ what a great story ❤. Although, I had a hen hatch 1 lol chick this spring, that baby didn't stray until about 2 weeks, but still ran to momma when called.

Thank you for sharing. I bought a 2 week old chick and right after, one of my girls started going broody. Tomorrow I should be picking up another one that is 2-3 days old. I know it likely won't work for the 2 week old but I wanted to give it a shot.
If she won't accept both then I'll raise them apart in a brooder since I want them to be raised together.

      Did she accept the chick?

@@LauxFamilyFarm she did not, but nobody was hurt 😊 her broodiness was broken easily but I'm integrating the chicks now that they are older and I'd say she's the nicest to them. Doesn't peck or chase, as far as chickens are concerned I'd call that nice 😅
