3:00 Let's not forget that Tom was born in an Orphanage, grew up DURING the GREAT DEPRESSION, and went to school for his 1st year literally DAYS before WORLD WAR 2 started, and went back every single summer even when the LONDON BLITZ of all things was happening and graduated just after WW2 along with the defeat of Grindlewald. It is no frakking wonder why he turned out the way he did!! And it completely justifies with his boggart being his own corpse too!!
Edit: It also didn't help that the Gaunt's were extremely incestuous because of their extreme belief in blood purity. Add in that, and you got a child with extreme disposition towards mental instability. Though it didn't help that Merope used a love potion to "bewitch" a man to "fall in love" with her just to escape her messed up family. Not justifying anything, but it happened.
Idk, I mean lots of people have grown up during depressions and wars and NOT become vicious murderers.
That's what I've always thought. No wonder that man had a pathological fear of death.
Jennifer Choate the reason he turned out the way he did was because he wanted to become immortal. No other factors. He just changed because he already was an unstable child to begin with. It doesnt have to do with WW2 and stuff
On point
Pretty simple really. His father abandoned him and his mother and he wanted revenge. The grandparents were just a bonus because they were as bad as his father.
I wouldn't blame the father for abandoning them. He was victim of a Love Potion at the end of the day, so he never loved Voldemort's mother. He was forced to live a life he didn't want, so he left as soon as he could
he also hated the fact that his father was a muggle cos he spent his time at hogwarts trying to find if his father had attended hogwarts but when he found out he wasn’t a pure blood he hated that he shared the same name as a muggle so he killed them
Alexandre Fortes ik but he could’ve stayed with her. not as a lover but as a father for tom. but it’s really hard to make those decisions. (Edit: Like I said this is a hard decision. it’s like a raped women gives birth to the rapist’s kid and take care of them or get an abortion. it would make sense if tom riddle ran away from his trauma)
angeieticals Yes but understand where the father is coming from to be under a love and all the things that you’ve been doing is a lie he don’t have a choice when you’re given that potion because it makes you feel things that you don’t really feel so just imagine the trauma he might’ve had as well yes he could’ve been in his sons life he should’ve been and I’m not trying to justify him leaving his son but perhaps he just couldn’t be around his son due to everything that happened
His father was like, “gotta go get milk!”
great video man. Loved it.
Yo man you make my day everyday can’t wait for the next video

@@LiterallyEveryone217 "curse you Perry platypus!"
His father was a meanie
No because his father abandoned him and his mother that’s why but this grandparents I don’t know
@@yosantsegai1965 op clearly explained the reason why: Tom Riddle was a, "meanie."
It is very scary to realize that he didnt even finish school by the time he already murderd his father and grandparents. From that point on, it just could get darker..
To be fair he was already a psychopath before he attended Hogwarts
Tom riddle was a seriously messed up kid but I don't blame her mother for falling in love with his dad he was one good looking man but I really don't like how she used a love spell on him that was a way too scary and knowing that Ron went through the same thing and it almost killed him
Those conceived using a love potion cant feel love.
@@crispysatyr0355 yeah
The love potion caused Tom to get that messed up
Voldemort was based on Hitler as Rowling stated. He had a rotten soul from the start and I feel no sympathy for him. He was a psychopath who enjoyed murdering people. I can't believe that people defend that.
The love potion given by Romilda Vane via the chocolates isn't what almost killed Ron, it was the beverage he drank when visiting Prof. Slughorn which was poisonous and was originally supposed to be given to Dumbledore to kill him.
Isn't it odd that Harry was, so to speak, an orphan practically. He wasn't raised in any love at all after his parents were murdered. Lily blessed him with that protection spell and somehow he knew love. What if Tom's mother had done the same for him. Maybe he wouldn't have turned out like he did. Just something I was thinking about.
It was actually stated that if Tom's mother would have chosen to save herself for the sake of her son, things would have turned out different.
Harry was conceived in love and had known it until NIV 1, 1981. Even though he did not remember this time it still affected him in a positive way.
And that's what makes Tom such an effective antagonist to Harry: Tom is essentially a dark reflection of him.
Yaa..
But if this would have been done this fantastic story we all love watching series wouldn't have been there.. 🤣🤣🤣
@@1337Stereotyp J.K Rowling was the one who said that if his mother was still alive, he would have been a different person. I dont know. Rowling contradicts her work or retcons it alot so, who knows. He may have been different ( maybe not as cruel but still suffering from sociopathic tendencies I suspect) but he still would be a troubled person due to being born from a love potion.

@@HarryPotterFolklore similar to Lord Voldemort
This fandom is bigger than the author. The books, these films, this fandom the entire thing has become bigger than her. Hogwarts has become a place that welcomed everyone. Let’s please please keep it that way.
This is what I've been saying. It's my story my world now. I do not support the author's discrimination. It's so awful.
When a story is released into the world, the world and its characters belong more to readers and fans than the creators.
I respectfully disagree. Tom Riddle, Sr. and Merope Gaunt were legally married so just leaving her didn't terminate the relationship. He could have sought an annulment, but Merope was pregnant with his child, who like it or not, was his legal heir and most laws are strict about annulment if children are involved. Even if Tom, Sr. married after Merope died, the younger Tom was his legal heir and preceded any other offspring he might have. So he would have to explain to any future wives about Merope and how he left her and already had a son. It is interesting to note that Tom, Sr. never married (and we're talking about in the 30's when there was a worldwide depression and i have to believe lots of ladies would have overlooked his personality). So imagine the comments made by the Riddle family when young Tom appeared. I suspect he was unprepared for seeing them at all, probably figuring that they were dead, only to find out they were all very much alive and most probably aware of him since the day he was born. Imagine the anger and resentment at having to livie in an orphanage while his father and grandparents lived in luxury. Worst of all, i dare say none of them cared anything about him. They probably thought of him as the garbage that ruined his life. Remember what he told Dumbledore in the orphanage, I can hurt people who are mean to me. Sixteen years of anger, hurt, and rage bubbled up in him and i dare say, he lost control. It's a behavior we see repeated in him a lot.
They were never married toms father was given a love potion
@@ashwinsmagicandcardistry , everyone always referred to Merope as Tom Sr's wife, Dumbledore refers to her as "wife", the expression "run off" is a euphemism for got married in hurry, and in the 1920s when this occurred, simply being alone with a man for an extended period of time without a chaperon - the expectation was that you would get married. Plus, it is on the Harry Potter fan site. While it may be argued that legally, coercion is grounds for annulment, it's hard to do with a baby on the way.
Same situation in fantastic beasts with Leta Lestranges mum why didn't she turn bad or was it a different spell?
Either way Tom Riddle Snr was raped
@@ashwinsmagicandcardistry , it's canon, Riddle Sr and Merope were married. Dumbledore mentions it several time in the Half Blood Prince (The House of Gaunt). Riddle Sr. knew no one would believe he was under a love potion, so he couldn't argue that for an annulment. Regardless of how he got there, in the eyes of the law, they were married. Plus, 1920's morality would have insisted Tom remain with his pregnant wife. No respectable family would ever allow their daughter to associate with him afterwards, especially since they knew Merope claimed she was pregnant.
@@ashwinsmagicandcardistry , i think non-magical and magical law are quite similar in this case. Marriages that take place due to fraud or deception can be annulled, but that doesn't happen "auto-magically". Neither party ever presented themselves before any magistrate and pleaded fraud, so the assumption might have been that both sides were accepting. However, Tom Riddle's life would have been "ruined" ... this was after all, the 1920s. After Tom Sr. was released from the spell he probably handed Merope some money and left her in London. She remained, hoping he would return to her. He on the other hand returned to his village where it was well known he'd been married (for whatever reason). No decent family would have him. I don't think Tom (Voldemort) knew his father or grandparents were alive. He seemed surprised by Morfin's response that "he came back". Imagine that cheery, Riddle family reunion. They would have blamed Tom for ruining their lives, of the marriage that never took place, or the grandchildren that were never born (ignoring the fact that he was their grandchild). Tom was only sixteen, but being told to his face that he wasn't wanted was probably more than he could bear.
I really wish that the confrontation between Voldemort and his father was included in the movies and books
“If I can kill my family...”
“I certainly can kill the Potter Family!”
(Kills all but Harry)
“But I couldn’t kill an infant? My reputation is now threatened.”
Question : when the Riddle murders first happened, the Muggles of Little Hangleton were all convinced that the gardener, Frank Bryce was guilty of the crime. If I remember right, the police even brought him into custody for questioning, but then he was suddenly released when they could find no physical evidence that the deaths were murders. But everyone still seemed to believe they were murdered. We know that the Ministry of Magic found who they believed to have committed the murders: Morfin Gaunt, who Voldemort had framed. If Muggle Little Hangleton knew about the existence of the Gaunts, which they clearly did, why would they not have noticed that Morfin disappeared right and that time and blamed him? It sounds like Frank Bryce bore the stigma of being a suspected murderer for the rest of his life. I guess the ministry couldn't step up and publish the fact that they'd arrested the (framed) culprit because then they would have had to admit that the Riddles had in fact been murdered and that would lead to more questions that would threaten the Statute of Secrecy. But seeing as Little Hangleton would also have known about Tom Riddle's marriage to Merope Gaunt and his abandonment of her, it shouldn't have been too hard for the town gossips to establish motive for Morfin Gaunt, a lot more motive than Frank Bryce would have had, I'd think. That couped with Gaunt's disappearnce should have appeared suspicious. Unless the Ministry of Magic did step in and erase all memory of the Gaunts from the Muggles of Little Hangleton, which I'd think impractical. Hmm...
The ministry probably did wipe the memories of the town. When Pettigerew blew a muggle street up to frame Sirius, the muggles thought it was a gas leak as their memories were probably modified
Morfin never came around the village and everyone knew the Gaunts were anti-social. Maybe they didn't know anyone was still living in the shack. Plus, Morfin probably avoided muggles after being imprisoned for three years, since he lived next door to the Riddle family for years and could've killed them at any time.
Could you do one explaining a bit more about Tom and Harrys relationship with Hogwarts?
Love ur vids!
Harry and Voldemort were similar only in terms of backgrounds. Harry, Voldemort and Snape view Hogwarts as their home. Harry acknowledges that in the Deathly Hallows after seeing Snape's memories.
They both saw Hogwarts as home, in ways. They both didn't want to go back in the muggle world, Tom in the orphanage, and Harry with the Dursleys. But Tom Riddle wanted to use his skills and knowledge in a different way from Harry's. He wanted to learn about The Dark Arts and to use them to destroy all muggles, half-bloods and muggleborns. For both of them it was the only place that they weren't considered as weirdos.
Nice ideas!
Voldemort is so evil, yet so talented and fascinating. A true genius.
There's quite a few people saying that they can't blame him or he's a tragic character... he murdered countless people indiscriminately, to further his own goal, because he didn't understand love. That isnt tragic, he is solely to blame, he is simply evil, that's what evil looks like.
I think it's not a case of that he's not to blame, and more just how fucked up his life was. He was born into an unloving orphanage with no parents, and an inherent inability to feel love. No friends, no support, nothing. And he also descends from an incredibly incestuous line, making him especially prone to mental instability/issues. And to make matters worse, he grew up during the era of the great depression and world war 2.
It's less that people are justifying him, and more people realising just how fucked up his life was.
Well he’s a psychopath, essentially incapable of empathy, so sure “evil” or just fear with no conscience, he was scared to die more than anything, obvs don’t make it okay tho lol
I see Tom Riddle more as a tragic character than a villain. Orphanages at that time must have been terrible and I can comprehend as to why he killed his family members. Before Lord Voldemort he was just a boy who took all the wrong choices and could have been saved
Tom Marvolo Riddle was born becouse his mother used a love potion on Tom Riddle senior. He didn't truly love her, and that's why Tom Riddle couldn't feel, give, or even understand love. He couldn't understand the fact that death was a part of life, and thought of himself as superior to all people. That's why he was so determined to live forever, he believed that death could be forever avoided. He wasn't just a little boy with a lot of trauma, he could: "make bad things happen to people who annoy me." And he terrified the orphanage kids. He wanted all muggles, halfbloods and muggleborns dead, destroyed.
Seriously? Just so you know Voldemort is based on Hitler. Rowling said that. Hitler was becoming evil from the start after his father was telling him about powerful Germany. Voldemort was a villain. He had a rotten soul.
@@klaudiagrob The person above you literally explained why he was what he was.
If his mother would have chosen to be there for him, things would have turned out to be completely different. It's even stated in the books. He was never shown love from the very start. There is an African saying that goes like this: it takes a village to raise a child. If the village doesnt show that child warmth, the child will one day burn the village down just to feel its warmth.

Carnage Vortex to my office NOW
This is a great extensive look into it. Great video.
The grandparents just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Voldemort never had a problem with hurting bystanders and peripherals.
Tom Riddle Senior was magically enslaved for some time. Voldemort's mom used magic to either control his mind or his emotions. Tom Senior knew magic was real. If Tom Senior had realized Voldemort was the son of the woman who'd enslaved him, he would run for his life.
So: I doubt Voldemort and The Riddles talked. Most likely Voldemort just broke in and immediately used Avada Kedavra.

I personally think that is unfair to assume that Merope's love for her son wasn't enough to keep her alive. l believe she had depression and convinced herself that Tom jr was better off without her
Yeah that seems to be what and/or how depressed people think
I don't think it's his mother's fault. She was terribly run down and had suffered much exposure and malnutrition. She lasted long enough to give her son a life at the cost of her own.Tom should fault no one for his mother's death but his father and Marvolo Gaunt for treating his mother worse than a House Elf.
As for all the magic Tom could do some dark wizard was teaching him, maybe a Grindelwald operative. He came to Hogwarts a fully practicing dark wizard.
@@johnjohnsten4158 I don't think it's his fathers fault he was put under a love potion and pretty much raped. While her life was tragic I can't blame Tom Sr. for her actions. Tragedy or not it was her decision to use the love potion.
I think Merope had obsession and not love.
And let's not forget Merope Gaunt Riddle had already been horribly abused by her brother Morfin and their father Marvolo before Bob Ogden called for backup and both Marvolo and Morfin were arrested and sentenced to Azkaban.
Merope's magical abilities markedly improved with Marvolo and Morfin in Azkaban, and they faltered when she learned the hard way that Amortentia, the strongest love potion of all, has to be continually administered or the drinker loses interest, as Tom Riddle did when she stopped giving him the Amortentia and he bailed on her and their unborn son.
What an incredible theory

Fantastic video as always, Dean very enjoyable
Tom was the product of love potion, not true love. His father didn't love his mother, so he's destined to live without love throughout his life. I think not finding any evidence about Riddle in Hogwarts have already upset him. His unsatisfaction rose after hearing his uncle's words, plus he's proud of being the heir of Slytherin. Maybe his father's rudeness leads to his final killing of his father and grandparents
His father didn't do anything wrong

frankensteinia1 it took him 5 years of extenisive research, while it took hermione harry and ron about 6 months.
@@ashwinsmagicandcardistry I can understand him eventually stumbling upon the entrance after five years of extensively searching the castle, looking for any insignia associated with Slytherin, and then speaking the word "open" in parseltongue. One thing I've always found interesting, and telling, is that Tom chose to murder his father and grandparents, as opposed to simply putting them under the Imperious Curse, enslaving them, and using their wealth to live a life of luxury from then on.
It is possible that Tom was able to inherit their wealth sometime after he killed them, especially since they had no other heirs.

Amazing this feels better then the book version of HP GOF. 👏👏👏👏
Great video dean as always
Voldemort had the trace didn't he when he killed the Riddle family. How come the Ministry Of Magic never found out?
ViggenH hmmm good point
Because there’s wizards living near by, the trace can’t tell exactly who used the magic. The ministry never expected Tom to be in that area so he wouldn’t have been a suspect. The books explain how he implanted a fake memory into his uncles mind so he was blamed, he had attacked Tom sr previously so they didn’t bother to investigate
Kat jayne yes, but his uncle was well above the trace, so it seems to be a plot hole of some sort. Its specified that the trace cannot be place on someone above 17 years old. So how would it show up if his uncle was the one that seemingly killed the riddles?
@@ashwinsmagicandcardistry He also used his uncle’s wand I believe so that probably could’ve had some to do with it.

Also what were Tom's motives for doing what he did. I'm pretty sure that Tom wasn't the only person born because of a love potion.
If there was a film about Voldemort's early life and his mother's family, I'd call it "THE GAUNT RIDDLE"
8:20 Voldemort even sarcastically says "See how useful he has proven himself in death." He'd have been in deep shit if Tom Sr's corpse had completely rotted away though.
He murdered them cuz Tom asked for a PS5 and his father said "No!"

So Tom wants to be the only gaunt to exist in the world? Sheesh that must be lots of pressure
I agree, I always assumed it was just vengeance and prejudice but the erasing his connection to the muggle world, I hadn’t even thought of that but it makes perfect sense.
Something I think would make an interesting g video, how do you think things might’ve turned out differently if Voldemort’s dad stayed with his mom after she stopped using the potion. How different would things have been if he developed genuine feelings for his wife and preborn son before the potion stopped working?
2:30 is when the ad ends
”Insulted his mother”? Not sure that would affect at all. Did he have affection to her? Eventhough he never saw her
He cannot feel love. Only lots of anger at his father.
I think he slaughtered them without any regrets. He must have been furious.
This intro is awesome love it
Tom Riddle Jr. wanted revenge on his father for leaving his mother when she was pregnant with him maybe not realizing a love potion was involved. Also his grandparents probably supported his father in leaving Tom's mother since they felt she was beneath him in status since she came from a poor background. Tom Jr. saw his father is being beneath his mother since he was a muggle though why was his father even living with his parents and not fighting in WWII or was he injured in the war where he was physically unable to fight?
My best guess is that Tom Sr. used his wealth and influence to avoid be drafted into service.
Great video!! I know it really doesn’t matter at all but at 0:33, isn’t it his paternal family rather than his maternal? Paternal is his dads side and maternal is his mums side. As I said, I know it doesn’t matter but I just thought I’d mention it!
Great video though Dean!!
He didn’t just murder his dad and grandparents he murdered his his dad entire new muggle family which meant that day he kid a few dozen humans
He killed them because they didn’t want him
Or he's just hurt from their abandonment, and harbored ill feelings from it, and it grew into madness.
Tom is essentially Harry, but gone horribly wrong.
You should do a video about Luna and Draco being relatively
Last time I was this early, J.K. Rowling wasn’t getting bothered by SJW’s on twitter.
Alas, I hope people calm down and actually talk about the things they find problematic, instead of the smear campaigns going on
Her latest tweet actually got tons of positive responses.
I feel like she could restore her reputation.
I feel like J.K. Rowling says all these controversial thing for attention. Wasn’t her new book about to drop at that time? She knows the reaction she’s going to get it, but does it anyway because none of her other books have ever reached Harry Potter famous.

Excuse me, but could anyone tell me what's going on? Because I have no idea what you're talking about.
Could you do "what veiws did tom riddle sr have after he left marope or something like that
That was a good one. I would imagine he'd get his marriage to Merope annulled on the basis of fraud which is allowed in the UK. We are only guessing that he never remarried. Tom could have left a stepmother a widow.
Wow I love this review
Goodness I want to read the scene when Tom meets...Tom. I'd love to see what set him off to murder everyone. And also tossing his uncle in prison.
you should do a video on if Voldomort was found by Dumbledore sooner and Dumbledore raise him !?
so like Harry Potter? well he couldn’t because dumbledore didn’t even know about tom riddle. along with that, the mother wasn’t a parr of anything special such as the Order.
I love that theory it’s awesome Mr. Dean
Imagine if Tom Riddle senior had took baby Tom from his mother and raised him. He would still have strong magic, he would have been raised privileged with a muggle family, he would have still went to Hogwarts and probably still been Slytherin.
The Riddle Family could have taken advantage of young Tom. Tom junior makes business and influences clients with his magic without them knowing it. The Riddles were idi*ts to not include young Tom as family member and heir into their family. It just got them killed.
Gréât video
So so you think Voldemort then saw himself as less of a half-blood, since eliminating that part of him by killing them?
