    I'm so glad I found your channel! I'm working on a pop-up book about my girlfriend that I want to use to propose to her and I wanted to include moments and tidbits from our time together as different pop-up in the DIY book. I was scratching my head trying to figure out new and exciting pop-ups and then I came across your channel! Thank you!!!

    If you want to make a dome, I would suggest five pentagons joined radially to a central pentagon, making half a dodecahedron. For a full sphere, one side of a dodecahedron will pull the other side up. The trick is to prevent it from ‘overinflating’. I wonder if internal tabs sliding fully into internal pockets would accomplish this?

      A dodecahedron certainly produces a very nice spherical shape with a minimal number of pieces - the problem really is that in a pop-up form it has to fold flat so it seems it needs an even number of pieces. I have seen a Japanese video which had a pop-up dodecahedron, I think at least one of the pentagons had been cut in half to facilitate the folding movement, but the video wasn't clear enough for me to see how it had been done. If you can make a pop-up dodecahedron I would be absolutely fascinated to see it.

    Awesome, Duncan! I'm super interested in the whole pop-up globe thing ever since I saw one in a book on You Tube. It was a spinning globe and I want to learn how to make on for this idea I have for a journal I want to make. Can't remember the name of the book, but that spinning globe was so awesome to me for some reason. I notice that all of these examples almost look like discs. The one in the book, if I recall, was round. This construction looks interesting though - and this particular design/construction, to me, looks like it would be great for like a Ferris Wheel pop-up. Can't wait for part two - hope you can say something about the spinning element. It looks like the globe around the 3:11 mark is a spinner. How are the threads placed? Is it regular thread or a thin elastic band? Anyway - lots of great information in this one. Lots for me to try and practice - even though it looks quite complicated.

      @thepop-upchannel4919  4 роки тому +2

      The globe at 3.11 does spin. It uses regular thread, not elastic. The thread is attached on each side inside the globe to two little discs of quite solid card. In Part 2 there is a very good, but very complicated, globe. A Ferris wheel? Well that raises different pop-up problems!
