Although he is not officially a pure-blooded Mandalorian he is still one unofficially and that by extension is true for Boba Fett, anything his father was is also applied to him.
Jango was always Mandalorian. There was too much evidence pointing to it even after Disney deleted the EU. I always knew he was and I'm happy to finally have confirmation.
Bruh you can't blame Disney for this. Disney are the ones who brought him back to being a Mandalorian. George was the one who made him and Boba non-mandalorian
This was a start of Boba Fett Reclaiming his Mandalorian Heritage why he indebted to Din and will help rescue his son Grogu and why he took it to his former employer the Empire
That still makes sense, especially for Boba. Boba's not from Mandalorian space. He's a clone from Kamino. His father died when he was 8 or so, and he's wandered the galaxy ever since.

@Mitch Lang Star Wars loves to retcon old lore, whether it's to write a better story or to clear up inconsistencies. The P.T completely changed The Clone Wars from what it was in Pre-Prequels Legends.
It's this kind of thing that has had me confused why some Star Wars fans are so angry about Disney announcing Legends. Star Wars has been doing retcons for decades. Disney was just up front about it instead of it suddenly showing up in a movie.
@@ballroomscott Star Wars fans complain about everything, it's no big deal. Give them a few years and they'll forget they were ever angry with Legends.
@Mitch Lang I didn't know that even in the Old Star wars retconned a bunch of stuff... Most of the retcons I heard about prior to Disney at the time wasn't really a big deal in my opinion. The Old TCW was loved mainly because of certain characters were potrayed and new characters being introduced. I guess people and me in some ways didn't like how The New TCW handled some of the characters, Some don't even exist and how characters got their original backstory removed making them kind of unlikable then their original The new TCW was a show I worshipped all my life like 90 percent but recently finding out that TCW is a major retconned that added alot of things I hated in the cannon made me not like the show as I used too. But at same time I love the show and hate it now
Almec comes to me as someone who would look at the foundlings as lesser. Even more, if they were performing jobs as bounty hunters. So it makes perfect sense and does ring to the encounter between Bo Katan and Djin. She saw him as a fanatic because of his creed. She saw herself as more "civilized" in a manner.
I think 1 reason why George created the mandalorians was to mock fanbases. Every major fanbase has a toxic group and gatekeepers and all good sides have faults and Star Wars has the worst fanbase of them all.
You’re forgetting that in the Jango Fett video game (and ALL the old canon from that era) that they always established that Jango Fett was raised by a Mandalorian (I forget his name). That was always a part of Jango’s backstory in any source material. They just didn’t have the word “foundling” back then.
The explanation I always went with is that Almec publicly supported Satine's pacifist New Mandalorians, so he denounced Jango Fett because that was the party line. As he said of the Death Watch saboteur in the same episode, "No Mandalorian would engage in such violence, not anymore." Boba also says that Jango fought in the Mandalorian Civil War, and I think we can assume that he fought against Satine's faction.
Basically how some people in america will say other americans aren't "true americans" because they were brought over as a child. This whole Fett identity crisis thing is really a shame as if I remember correctly, this was what caused Karen Traviss to stop writing the Commando series.
@@Ghost-oq4qj Karen Traviss was writing the Republic Commando novels at the time and with it, she started developing a lot of aspects about the Mandalorian culture including the fact that the Commandos were being trained directly by Mandalorians that Jango knew/respected like Kal Skirata (don't know if I spelt that right) and not just regular bounty hunters, a few words in Mando'a, etc. Then, the Mandalore arc started on The Clone Wars and it sort of threw out a lot of the things she had written along with saying Jango and Boba aren't Mandalorians. There is, of course, more to the story but that's the gist of it. After that, she didn't want to write Star Wars titles anymore, including the Commando series. It's really a shame for 2 reasons: 1. The Commando series was awesome. 2. A lot of things she wrote got integrated back into the lore anyway.

One important point is that Almec doesn't know how Jango got the armor which means he was clueless about Jango's origin. Now combine that with his belief that the warriors all died out on Concordia. His first thought is to immediately dismiss the idea Jango was a Mandalorian, otherwise he's wrong(which he was) and there were still warriors out and about.
Oh so that explains why the Fetts debated being Mandalorians confusion started from the Empire Strikes Back Artbook, I always thought those Legends Boba Fett Comics Books got the fan base confused about the Fetts being Mandalorians.
I really like your explanation and I think it goes perfectly with another part of The Mandalorian. Bo-Katan says Din is “a child of The Watch”. Some people think that’s Death Watch, but I think it’s a sub-set of Death Watch...it’s foundlings. As such, the Children of the Watch could have had instructions to never remove their helmets because, in a very non-inclusive way, many Mandalorians may not have accepted them as well, but they were needed, The Children of the Watch’s dedication to foundlings, which they make a BIG deal about, could very well be because all the Children of the Watch are foundlings. Almec’s feelings may well have been common in some older sects of Mandalorians, thus segregating “The Children of the Watch”
Thank you Alex! After you mentioned the video coming during the live stream Friday, I couldn’t wait to watch. And now when I tell others about the Fetts, I can give them my usual spiel AND show them your video. Great job as usual 😄👍
What happened to Boba in return of the jedi was just a minor setback, even Boba makes mistakes and even though he fell into the sarlacc pit he was able to get out and continue being epic.
Considering the in-universe source, Olmec, claiming Jango Fett wasn't a Mandalorian was also himself a traitorous turn-coat liar I've never put much stock in it. As for George Lucas, well he regularly changed his mind about things and did contradict himself several times. In the end it's whatever serves the story best that's what they go with...usually. Fortunately Dave Filoni really gets that.
Have a look at the video "DAVE FILONI: Is Jango Fett A Mandalorian?" at the 1:15 mark. This proves that they didn't necessarily backpedal on anything. This is why I like ambiguity in Star Wars. The writers don't need to have concrete answers to anything and things can be fleshed out decades down the line.
@@MNGN101 It is decades later. Until now the best we’ve had was the obviously suspect reply from Almec. I’m all for ambiguity in regards of his character beyond being a “simple - practical man” or allegiances beyond money and being practically a loner, but it’s high past time that something as simple as the question of “is Boba a Mandalorian or not” that’s been around practically since he first appeared back in what? 1979? was clearly and definitively answered. And now we have that. Boba Fett is a Mandalorian by extension of his “father” Jango being a Mandalorian fondling. The finer points to that are irrelevant.
@@eds1942 Mandalorian identity isn't inherent for foundlings. There's a reason Boba blatantly dodges the question in this episode. The question had been answered and it is still the same answer; it's just been clarified. Boba Fett is neither ethnically nor culturally Mandalorian. His choice of armour was inspired by his father (who was adopted into the culture), but Boba personally does not associate with the culture, as far as we know.
Perfectly put about what it takes to be Mandalorian, Alex. You’re such a positive voice in the fandom and it’s great. I’ve felt similar about the Fett situation for awhile now and to essentially have Open Seasons back in the canon is great. attack of the clones visual dictionary printed in 2002 "after the murder of his parents, Jango Fett was adopted and raised by the legendary Mandalorian warrior army."
This episode raised a new question. Despite the fact that Boba's armor looks significantly different from Jango's, he still refers to it as "my father's armor." This implies that Jango had at least 2 suits of armor. Perhaps this armor originally belonged to Jaster, and Jango kept it as a family heirloom?
After The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 6 FansStarWars: We saw you get eaten by the Sarlacc Boba Fett: Yes it's true but after a long agony the Sarlacc is dead
I did a fully voice acted (with SFX) adaptation of Jango Fett Open Seasons comic, thought some of you might appreciate it (can be found on my channel). This is the comic that the chain code references. This also answers the following question: is Boba Fett a Mandalorian? Many believed that were not the case after the exposition we were given in The Clone Wars but it would make little sense for the creatives involved to make such iconic characters that are the SYMBOL of Mandalorian culture, non-Mandalorian (plus, the said exposition did not make it certain). To me, it was always obvious that it was only a matter of time for them to confirm that both Jango and Boba were Mandalorian. The Mandalorian Disney+ series seemed like a perfect opportunity to do so.
I think Jango definitely considered himself a Mando at least up until the end of the Mandalorian Civil Wars. Once he became a bounty hunter he probably stopped due to disillusionment & loss of Mandalore. Boba on the other hand probably wasn't brought up to identify as Mando due to Jango giving up on taking Mandalore, I believe his side lost to Satine & Almec's faction. This is why in a later episode Boba says "I never said I was (a Mandalorian)".
I kind of like the idea that information is wrong in the universe, because information in real life is wrong and you get conflicting stories. You also get people trying to hide the true past of other people. It makes it seem like a very vindictive and real world, no one knows all of real history and no one knows everyone else's past.
Almec was a death watch sympathizer ND Jango hated and fought the death watch. Death Watch thinks they are the only true mandalorians. That is why Almec said what he said. Not sure why people don't get that.
Wasn't Almec also giving the official New Mandalorian line of Satine's government? They had rejected the warrior ways, condemned all forms of violence and disavowed anyone who kept to it, even claiming that all of their remaining warriors had died in exile on Concordia. Of course they wouldn't accept Jango as legitimate, especially since he was on the losing side of the Civil War.
Another explanation for Almec is simply that he's in denial. They make a point that all the warriors had been exiled and died off. So like Obi-Wan being in denial about Maul returning because he believed he had killed him, Almec didn't believe a true Mandalorian Warrior could still exist.
Spoilers- In the new episode of the Mandalorian, Boba says the armor he wears was his father's, but didn't boba blow up Jango's helmet in the Mandalorian?
He did, but that doesn’t mean Boba couldn’t have found another Mando helmet somewhere. Boba’s entire getup is just barely different than Jango’s (longer shoulder armor, different boots, thigh armor), so he probably just built up his own load out over time.
As Dave Filoni said it was George idea he said it would impactful if mace saw it blown And well would have better if we got that cad bane and boba story arc form clone wars
Almec dismissing Jango is an attempt to deny the legitimacy of the True Mandalorians. If he acknowledged that he was Mandalorian, then the people would see a third choice in the civil conflict, and divide them even further.
I was a rabid star wars fan in the days when people were still debating wether Boba Fett was male or female or human or an alien or a robot or an Anakin Skywalker clone or Han Solo's long lost brother. Lol. Personally, I always assumed a male, human, Mandalorian...haha.
The way you reconciled the Fett-being-Mandalorian thing was the almost same way I did: Almec looked down his nose on Jango because they were from different factions of Mandalorian society; Almec was ostensibly one of the pacifist New Mandalorians, and Jango lead the mercenary but still honorable True Mandalorians. A faction that's been crushed and disbanded by Death Watch, and Clan Fett was thought to be extinct. Maybe Jango's armor resembling the type the Death Watch wore was also a factor.
I'm one of the oddballs who _don't_ like Filoni very much (his Star Wars is "ok" and can be great sometimes, but it's overall "ok", in my book). Most of the episodes in Mando have been written by Favreau and, as far as I know, this is why we're getting such good Star Wars!
I really want Boba and Rex to meet. Boba in the clone wars was explored as a character through how he related or did not relate to the clones. And if Boba is Mando, would he consider Rex Mando? I’d assume not since he wasn’t raised in anyway to be Mando. But it could get real Hegelian with the character dynamics.
I think it works brilliantly in the universe, while simultaneously satisfying millions of Mando fans. And Bo Katan already foreshadowed the disrespect native Mandos have for "foundlings" and adopted Mandos.
Man ice watch that episode like 10 times now jango and boba were my favorite characters in the movies growing up and I was like a kid again seeing boba kick ass and get to be a mando again
Jango is a foundling he IS mandalorian but Boba in the other hand is a clone and therefore not recognized as a mandalorian (even though I think he should be) but it’s ok because he never claims to be mandalorian but he does follow most ways of the mandalore
He wears Mandalorian armor. Caries there sigils & knows the Mandalorian alphabet. Probably speaks it too. If he's not Mandalorian then he's about the closest thing to being 1 as possible.
Appreciate the run down man! I’m in the same emotional boat as you lol. We also all know that Lucas’ biggest shortcoming is fully thinking out characters and plot lines.
His second is that he thinks that Star Wars movies are video games that can get patched whenever he thinks of a new idea or a new bit of cool movie technology comes out.
Boba Fett's chain code is written in Mando'a, and when translated it says "Foundling took into the year the concord dawn mentor Jaster father Fett Boba Fett". I guess Jaster Mereel is canon now.
Almec was also Deathwatch and so we're the Saxons, Deathwatch hated Mereel's sect the "True Mandalorians" as they called themselves. Even Duchess Satine disowned Deathwatch as not being Mandalorians. It seems there's a lot of *you're not a Mandalorian if you don't agree with me* in their culture
I think Almec meant Jango not being a Mandalorian in the same way countries denounce terrorists from their country. With regards to the armour, I think Jango may have owned the armour and had it ready for when Boba grew up, that way the armour isn't literally the same but it did belong to Jango
When we think about it now, it was obvious Jango was a Mandaloria. The only thing Jango asked from the cloners was a non modified clone he could raise as his son... You don't really imagine a bounty hunter would ask to be given a kid he would have to take with him everywhere in his dangerous life... unless he is from a culture where it's a duty for any man to take a kid a raise him to be a warrior.... So Jango dressed like a Mandalorian, and acted like a Mandalorian. However, Boba doesn't seem to identify as a Mandalorian.... but that may be something that will be explored in the future, if he doesn't die (and there is a chance he will, which would allow Din Djarin to inherit the Slave One)... will he take a foundling to perpetuate the Fett clan? Will he involve himself in the re-taking of Mandalore?
Hey guys love your content! Just wanted to let you know temuera and Maori are pronounced closer to temoira and mouri with the Rs being slightly rolled. Keep up the great videos!
From the certain point of Jango Fett and Boba Fett aren't Mandalorian they're just human. Foundlings are brought into the culture they aren't Mandalorian they need to be raised into it. Almec sees it as family tree like royalty almost.
@@7TheWhiteWolf I’m rationalizing it as different clans perceptions of the creed, and what it means to be part of Mandalorian society. The theme of Mandalorian politics from Clone Wars has carried over, and rightfully so. We already saw a bit of that in Bo Katan’s comments about the Deathwatch’s almost religious fervor regarding the creed. So I can definitely see some considering foundlings as still being outsiders and not “true” Mandalorian’s, while others do. From Din’s point of view, foundlings are true Mandalorians; as that’s how he sees himself. He would be a hypocrite if he didn’t.

Jango was trained by Jaster, who’s death jango watched if you read the comic from Star Wars Bounty Hunter. Which already confirmed Jango was a mandolorian.
About Lucas saying that the Fetts aren’t Mandalorian: it is clear that that was the original idea back in the 80s. The Sketchbook says Boba wears Mandalorian Supercommando armor, not that he is one( and that the Supercommandos were an old, maybe pre-Empire group) EU writers then made him Mandalorian, against which George then pushed back when he wrote about the Mandalorians himself. What we have now is a compromise between the original BTS idea and what the old EU&fandom did
Personally I wouldn't view it as George "original idea" for the character, as he tends to try and re-write his own history or made new rules seemly out of nowhere. The best example being George trying to convince everyone Luke and Leia were always meant to be related despite all the evidence showing that was not the case. In terms of random new rules he once declared "no more wookiee jedi" and renaming Korriban to Moraband simply because he preferred that name regardless of the fact that it had been called Korriban for 20 years at that point. Then there his involvement with some Star Was games, which I would recommend checking out the Did You Know Gaming video to learn more. So I think it's more a case of Lucas just doing his own thing with the character despite everything that came before simply because he could and his word is what gives final approval of ideas at the end of the day.
Hope we see some more stuff with jango and his time fighting in the civil war. They could do a game with Morrison voicing him, kind of like a modern star wars bounty Hunter and we could see Jaster (Mareel hopefully as the chain code only said Jaster) in canon form

Din accepts that Boba Fett is Mandalorian. He accepted that faster than he accepted Bo Katan Kryse was Mandalorian.
Because she was the first Mandalorian that didn’t follow the same creed as him he met, obviously he would be skeptical
I mean I would argue she's more of a true Mandalorian than all of them. She was born on Mandalore while they are foundlings/clones
Now ill have to explain to my friend that he actually is mandalorian again, after a year of telling him he isnt.
Same to my dad months ago. Retcons suck you know.

I guess Bossk and Dengar were just insulting Fett when they called him a "Mandalorian Pretender" in from a certain point of view.
That still makes sense, especially for Boba. Boba's not from Mandalorian space. He's a clone from Kamino. His father died when he was 8 or so, and he's wandered the galaxy ever since.
Lizard Man and Toilet Paper Head? Yeah, they're trustworthy sources.
Plus Boba said he gives his allegiance to no one. His dad was a foundling, but Boba wasn’t raised a foundling. The armor is his birthright, but I doubt he considers himself Mandalorian.
@@maxorr2969 Yeah, that's the issue I have with all these people declaring Boba to be Mandalorian again. He sort of is, but as Cara and Din say in Chapter 8, Mandalorian isn't a race, but a creed. And I don't think we've seen any evidence that, after Jango died at least, Boba was raised under or followed any Mandalorian creeds.
It's like how there are a lot of idiots in the United States who don't think of people of non-European heritage as real "Americans" even if they are citizens, or even born in the U.S.
I bet everyone threw their Tales of the Bounty Hunters books into the fire when Episode II came out and yelling "Everything I knew was a lie!!!".
@Mitch Lang Star Wars loves to retcon old lore, whether it's to write a better story or to clear up inconsistencies. The P.T completely changed The Clone Wars from what it was in Pre-Prequels Legends.
That’s how I was when Dengar showed up in Clone Wars.
I guess people and me in some ways didn't like how The New TCW handled some of the characters, Some don't even exist and how characters got their original backstory removed making them kind of unlikable then their original
The new TCW was a show I worshipped all my life like 90 percent but recently finding out that TCW is a major retconned that added alot of things I hated in the cannon made me not like the show as I used too. But at same time I love the show and hate it now
And thus debate is put to rest
Almec comes to me as someone who would look at the foundlings as lesser. Even more, if they were performing jobs as bounty hunters. So it makes perfect sense and does ring to the encounter between Bo Katan and Djin. She saw him as a fanatic because of his creed. She saw herself as more "civilized" in a manner.

As he said of the Death Watch saboteur in the same episode, "No Mandalorian would engage in such violence, not anymore."
Boba also says that Jango fought in the Mandalorian Civil War, and I think we can assume that he fought against Satine's faction.
I don’t care what The Mandalorian does with Boba Fett, Jango will FOREVER & ALWAYS be muh king!
I told so many people on how Jango is Mandalorian since he was born on Concord Dawn which a planet in Mandalorian Space
Basically how some people in america will say other americans aren't "true americans" because they were brought over as a child. Guess even some Mandalorians can have prejudice against others coming into their culture.
But yeah, good thing that isn't really true or the Fett clan wouldn't be canon which now I am glad they are.
@@Needler13 I'd say it's closer to the American Islands. Saying Jango isn't a Mandalorian because he was born on Concord Dawn is like saying someone isn't an American because they were born on Puerto Rico.

Same shit with Jango. Not born a mando but was raised as one, birthed as one, was trained as one and was even resources, like his armor, just like a true Mandalorians. All in all he is mando but other mando's are so "pure" with their thought in what a mando is.
This whole Fett identity crisis thing is really a shame as if I remember correctly, this was what caused Karen Traviss to stop writing the Commando series.
Wdym?
It's really a shame for 2 reasons:
1. The Commando series was awesome.
2. A lot of things she wrote got integrated back into the lore anyway.

Exactly i always thought in a way it was more of a religion kinda thing which can also explain why to some someone like boba isnt to some and to others he is.
So happy I don’t have to listen to people scream “Almec said this” over and over anymore.
I see Almec’s statement as him trying to cover their ass and push the blame somewhere else.
I think it fits the Mando way, they even fight over who is actually a Mandalorian and who isn't
Nice job reconciling the twists and turns of the Fett's history. For what it's worth, the Fett's have always been Mandalorians to me.
This also plays into my theory about Almec talking smack about Jango. Why? Almec was allied with Death Watch and that organization was Jango’s enemy.
Jango was a foundling so he's 100% mandalorian, meaning boba and the entire clone army come from mandalorian stock.
Part of me thought that Lucas’ goofs and changes were done because he knew that they would lead to more stories to attempting to retcon the issues.
Boba Fett is neither ethnically nor culturally Mandalorian. attack of the clones visual dictionary printed in 2002 "after the murder of his parents, Jango Fett was adopted and raised by the legendary Mandalorian warrior army."
After The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 6
FansStarWars: We saw you get eaten by the Sarlacc
Boba Fett: Yes it's true but after a long agony the Sarlacc is dead
Tales of the bounty hunters was an awesome read for me as a kid. Really cool to see it brought up :)
The lore of Star Wars is so interesting! Currently working my way through Rebels atm and plan on watching clone wars after.
Rebels takes place after the Clone Wars series FYI.
Spoilers-
In the new episode of the Mandalorian, Boba says the armor he wears was his father's, but didn't boba blow up Jango's helmet in the Mandalorian?
In the reference book Scum and Villainy by Pablo Hidalgo it’s said that the republic recovered Jango’s helmet from the wreckage
He did, but that doesn’t mean Boba couldn’t have found another Mando helmet somewhere. Boba’s entire getup is just barely different than Jango’s (longer shoulder armor, different boots, thigh armor), so he probably just built up his own load out over time.
As Dave Filoni said it was George idea he said it would impactful if mace saw it blown
And well would have better if we got that cad bane and boba story arc form clone wars
Couldn't Jango have more than one armor set?
Oh my god, its a different set. Jango had 3 sets of armour ffs. His AOTC set, ESB set, and ROTJ set.. use your brains
"and then Boba just blurted out his whole family backstory" Yeah and I SCREAMED
Almec dismissing Jango is an attempt to deny the legitimacy of the True Mandalorians. If he acknowledged that he was Mandalorian, then the people would see a third choice in the civil conflict, and divide them even further.
The days when Fett's identity was the biggest issue in canon vs. legends continuity...

I vote for the Fetts being Mandalorians.
I love Filoni as much as the next guy, but we should not forget Favreau. Hes in it just as much if not more so, since he writes the episodes

I wasn't mad about it. Don't hear that from Star Wars fans much.
Great video! I'm gonna share cause i keep getting questions about this
Boba Fett's chain code is written in Mando'a, and when translated it says "Foundling took into the year the concord dawn mentor Jaster father Fett Boba Fett". I guess Jaster Mereel is canon now.
Everyone forgets Cassius Fett
But Din/Mando is a foundling too...

I’m rationalizing it as different clans perceptions of the creed, and what it means to be part of Mandalorian society.
Chapter 14 was a start of Boba Fett Reclaiming his Mandalorian Heritage why he indebted to Din and will help rescue his son Grogu and why he took it to his former employer the Empire

I always thought Almec didn't recognised the Fetts as Mandalorian because they up held the warrior ways as bounty hunters instead of becoming pacifist like the New Mandalorians.

I say they are Mandalorians forever!
To the good and sensible people reading this - you're awesome, you're loved, you can do this, have a great day :)
