I agree 100% with Tim! This is an amazing overview. In my home kitchen, I only have SS, cast iron, and enamelled cast iron. For the field, I have a SS cook set, carbon steel skillet, and a cast iron camp oven.
To clean stainless steel, I really like Barkeeper's Friend. It does a great job.

@@DamienNeverwinter If it's cast iron or carbon steel, you don't need to do anything special with it. Those items come pre-seasoned from the factory. A quick wash, a thorough dry on the hob, as you folks say, and you're good to go.
French carbon steel, OTOH, is often sold unseasoned.

For anyone looking for a pan cover to protect your bag, I'd recommend using a grocery store paper bag. It weighs next to nothing, is disposable, doesn't matter if it gets wet, soiled, ruined, and if nothing else you can use for tinder.

Great series on the way. Looking forward to it. Folks should remember that a turner for a skillet can be bought cheap and some work with a cutoff wheel on a grinder or Dremel tool can make it fit. You can do the same with wooden utensils as well as ruber or silicone spatulas. Just don't take your mother's or wife's.
