    How do you all make your archery targets?
    Special mention for horse stall mats as backstops. Another great option is an old carpet. What else did I leave out?

      I use an empty weaved cow feed bag and fill it with sawdust.

    I like to stuff clothes in dog food bags for archery targets. Chicken feed bags work well also. I like to remove metal buttons and zippers before stuffing the target so I don't damage my arrows.

    I painted every sheet of cardboard with a small roller and stacked them under weights while still wet, then painted the "grain" end of the cardboard and stuck a piece old sheet to the wet paint - it minimizes the mess and I can paint targets directly on the surface if I like. Repairs also last longer.

    2yr old home-made cardboard target survives for use this morning in the garden with my crossbow. There may be a little Bach on the guitar later. 😄👍

    I'm a big fan of of a spoiled round bail. I usually get for free a sub $20 then when finished I use for compost.

      That is a great way to go! I’d shoot more bails if they didn’t set off my allergies

    Even better target filling then textiles: Old/used plastic bags and wraping.
    If you use regular(non sharp) target tips on the arrows, the arrows will burn(friction) to a quick and soft halt through the plastics,
    without sticking hard. I use small boxes, ca. 30x30 cm and it stops my fast and heavy arrows.

    Shrink wrap is what I have found works best...it's free and will last hundreds of thousands of shots if laid in correctly.

    As someone who has made a 4 ft by 4 ft x 2 ft deep Target filled with plastic wrap and pallet wrap and anything plastic including Walmart bags and so forth, I can say don't build this kind of target. It took me over two and a half years to get enough material to fill it, but I shoot about 650 to 730 grain arrows and I need something dense enough to stop it I could never achieve the density even with the thickness of this target to stop my arrows and I've lost so many. I may go to Hay bales because even if they have to be replaced every year the way they secure them in my area they are really dense.
    The other thing I've been doing is saving old pillows, couch cushions, and any kind of synthetic stuffing so I can make another evolution of the above Target but maybe 1 ft deep and maybe 3 ft by 3 ft that way I can pack this thing to the max. The other problem you run into though is the thicker you pack it the more the front and rear bulge. I solve this with plastic mesh, yard fabric, and then a thick white tarp on the front and back when I built my plastic trash Target but I will probably use that for this synthetic fill Target as well.
    I have a bunch of foam targets, two bag targets, a 3D Glen Del buck and even a Reinhardt 18-sided target. The phone targets disintegrate, the two bag targets, you have to hang them because they will rot on the bottom. But the good news is you can buy replacement bags and repairing them is a cinch.
    The last two targets are good but the Reinhardt is a little bit hard to pull out of.
    If you're looking for cheap backstop material, so you have a stand target, get some old tires and stack them up. Most tire repair shops have to pay a fee to get rid of their tires at a recycle center and would be more than glad to give you a couple or however many you need. I hope this helps.

    Khatra is not necesary when you shoot in mediterranean style and the arrow in the left side of the bow. It works only in asiatic style shooting

    If I may, What was the reason to stop using foam mat targets?

    • @DanSantanaBows
      @DanSantanaBows  11 місяців тому

      they crumble and go everywhere and the foam doesn’t last very long at all. If you already have some I guess, but if you buy foam mats the cost isnt very worth it compared to buying a target

    • @iCanHazTwentyLetters
      @iCanHazTwentyLetters 11 місяців тому

      @@DanSantanaBows Yes I see that the price of the mats has increased a lot. I was thinking that it would be more serviceable in terms of replacing broken mats but you have a point.
      Thank you for your response and great video again.
