Here's some speculation on why the reserved list still exists: Certain higher ups have been at WotC for a very long time. We've heard from previous employers that they accumulate cards during their stint. So, if you've been there long enough, you have accumulated reserved list cards as well. So, that's basically your retirement plan. Allegedly. Speculation.
All major CCGs have been completely taken over by scalpers. Pokémon scalpers outnumber players about 50 to 1. MTG has become like Supreme where WoTC actively markets to scalpers. And One Piece has become the poster child for inflated box prices.
Don't know where you live but Pokemon cards are readily available in Brazil, from boosters to booster boxes to special promo boxes (including the thousand Charizard ones) We're past the days of Evolving Skies.
The fine people at Loading Ready Run still being polite while there was an absolute dumpster fire of corporate shenanigans going on was the most Canadian thing possible
They definitely should. This year has been weirdly difficult for no good reason. But we have a couple of scripts in the works at the moment. Hopefully, we should be able to get something out by the end of this month or at least the beginning of next month.
First time seeing this channel and I like the way it puts everything together that I heard fragmented over the course of a year. Only critique I have is that jumping between speaking as WotC and as a fan of MtG in a few segments threw me off, but otherwise great
Me and my best friend used to just play our own simplified version of magic and just used whatever land cards we wanted to summon creatures instead of doing any of the technicalities rules for the actual game we called it ghetto magic
There is a variation of Magic that only uses basic lands. I can't remember the name, but the idea is to get 3 of each type into play. Same rules, 1 land per turn, draw 1 card per turn, but then each land does something else: White: Brings a land back from the GY to hand. Blue: Draws an extra card. Black: Opponent discards a card. Red: Destroys an opponents land. Green: You can play an extra land. It's pretty fun, actually.
This episode had absolutely no chance of staying in date long. Hasbro and WOTC seem dead set on making the worst decision they can at every turn. Honestly, it's like they're trying to piss of their base deliberately. But they wouldn't do that, right? Right? 😒 Capitalist greed is ruining everything that I love. In all seriousness, loved the video. Looking forward to the Hasbro video!
Ummm, akshully, Jace The Mind Sculptor was legal for over a year before he was banned. I know this because I played a Standard tournament the weekend before he was officially banned during New Phyrexia Standard and he came out in Worldwake. Guess how many copies of Jace TMS were in the top 8 of that tournament? 32/32! There were also 28/32 Stoneforge Mystic in the T8 too, the one guy who didn't play SFM got 8th.
I switched from mtg to 40k last year, sold my cards and got enough models for an army with a fraction of it. I get a new box of models every 2 months or so it is legitimately so much cheaper than magic was
Gonna be honest, as is my brand, but we've talked about video length and I probably could have gone on longer. I doubt you're ever gonna see a video that long on this channel, But i've always said that the honest series is "as long as they have to be."
Also, they have been caught multiple times with Ai illustrations, causing a number of long time artists that did card art for them to walk away. I would not be surprised if they had also dipped into NFT stuff somehow.
Believe it or not - I'm a YuGioh player and big texts on cards make the game better for me. Maybe because the logic is smaller than the text lets you believe.
Oddly enough that often happens with Magic cards. They need a lot of text to explain one simple thing, but it often is relatively simple to understand.
@@GeeksWelcomeYT Yeah YuGiOh has these logic patterns. It's harder for new players to get into it though. The texts are only so long because they're very detailed and mean what they mean. Almost like programmation chains. Some cards still need explanations like Predaplant Verte Anaconda, but that is the exception.
Omg, that tcgplayer dig was unexpected and so true. I got a "near mint" card with a huge scratch across the front of it, but since it was only one scratch... that's apparently near mint. Nevermind how obvious and ugly the scratch is. That card is pack fresh 😂
@@GeeksWelcomeYT I was in a league in college and we met every week, and it was "competitive play" and not "and this is my collection." As I said though, that was close to 10 years ago and maybe things have changed since then.
This was well worth the wait. Thanks for letting me know to boycott WOTC. See you for part 3 in a few months (maybe a year if another disaster happens. Hopefully it doesn't).
Hey, I'm working on a Free-To-Play Competitive Card game that's similar to Magic. I know you're more of a trading card game channel but I'd love some of your input about my game if that sounds at all interesting to you :)

You're gonna get the Pinkertons called on you.
BUT NOOOOO

While it does feel that way, new sets and standard are at least affordable.
Not really good for long term "value" but they are affordable.

Agreed. LRR are by far my favorite youtubers. Been watching them since before they were on UA-cam.
I'm glad you guys kept working on this. I really enjoyed it. Hopefully things are a little smoother going forward.

Wizards Of The Coast: We used to own Axis And Allies??? Was it related to Magic??? No??? Screw em
If they did, it's news to me.
They used to but they sold the rights last year… and THANK GOD FOR THAT

Yeah, there was an inconsistency in perspective. I should have fixed that.
Me and my best friend used to just play our own simplified version of magic and just used whatever land cards we wanted to summon creatures instead of doing any of the technicalities rules for the actual game we called it ghetto magic

14:58 they started selling wild cards now. 12€ for 4 Rare wild cards or 22€ for 4 mythic wild cards.
16:00 if microtransactions were honest when?
Dear god that video would be 10 hours long.
I'm not saying no.

Oh god... Caw blade. The horrors. THE HORRORS.
“Ian is very passionate about Magic”
>Sees that the video is 39 minutes long
GODDAMN!
I may have gone a bit overboard.
I switched from mtg to 40k last year, sold my cards and got enough models for an army with a fraction of it. I get a new box of models every 2 months or so it is legitimately so much cheaper than magic was
Never got into Warhammer. I feel like models and painting aren't really my thing.
29:14 They dug that landfill up. Look up the documentary Atari: Game Over.
Oooh I need to check that out.
To note, LotR was only really profitable cause people wanted the one of one ring and it fell off a cliff after people found the one of one ring.
This was incredible. It’s like the titanic sinking.
Great video only “complaint” is I wanted it to be three hours. At least.
Gonna be honest, as is my brand, but we've talked about video length and I probably could have gone on longer.

I used to be down on proxies... then Wizards released 30A (they SOLD proxies)... now?... meh.
This was fantastic. Thank you for your time and effort making it.
I hope bungie is in your future plans for the honest series
So, while we did do a Bungie episode on the previous channel, their recent layoffs definitely merit a look. It's on the list.
Also, they have been caught multiple times with Ai illustrations, causing a number of long time artists that did card art for them to walk away. I would not be surprised if they had also dipped into NFT stuff somehow.
see you next year
WE MUST DO BETTER
Amazing how on point these “speculations” are😅
This is so accurate I'm between laughing and very angry
Awesome vid, Ian!
TY!

This was very interesting. Im a pretty casual player, so its fascinating to see this stuff.

While I haven't played Pokemon TCG in close to 10 years, I'm glad it wasn't this complicated.
Are there a lot of people still playing Pokemon? I heard most "collectors" are just that. Collecting, not playing.
@@GeeksWelcomeYT I was in a league in college and we met every week, and it was "competitive play" and not "and this is my collection." As I said though, that was close to 10 years ago and maybe things have changed since then.
I enjoyed it so thank you for your hard work.
I dis share it with some friends who played magic :)
Appreciate it! It took a while to get done.
Do people know "The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game"? It's way way better, artwork wise and gameplay wise, than magic.
There's a ton of older TCGs I'm curious about. How does the older game play?
WOTC will never get a dime of my money.
Be careful, printer ink is rather expensive now.
This was well worth the wait. Thanks for letting me know to boycott WOTC. See you for part 3 in a few months (maybe a year if another disaster happens. Hopefully it doesn't).
For the algorithm!
THE ALGORITHM IS GOD

Good video. Some of the news is a bit out of date but i like your satire as an aledgidly ex wotc employee.
Yes. Unfortunately, this had some delays. We filmed this back in February
I would say stickers do mess up value
And yeah I I think universes beyond is definitely the only reason why I have current cards now
You’ve gotta shower bruh
BUT HOW DO I AFFORD SHOWER WHEN WOTC FIRED ME?
Magic boomer angrily shouts at new cards. I see
The only game the wotc ceo is playing is DEI.
