@DJmarekPrice my friend, thanks for ur question. The EQ adjustments also apply to the monitoring system. Any changes you make, you will also hear them on your cued channedl in your headphones. No button or switch is specific to enable/disable this. I hope this helped. Cheers
Nice review! I've been looking at this mixer and it was good to get to hear the filters in action. I'm not even that big a house fan but I was diggin what you were playing!
@iDouglas91 hi, i dont quite understand your question....if you want to use all 4 channels with the mixer and traktor, you will need 2 kontrols OR 2 cd/turntables, unless you want to be pressing buttons on the laptop....
i got the Xone 22 since 1 year now, my friends and i are planning to do own nights, so i am looked for a 4channel mixer by Allen&Heath. I have to say that this is the only useful and pretty informative review you can get on the web! great work with this interview, showing all controls & in/outputs! hah, and nice music - love ;)
hey there, these knobs are for when you have an external effects machine and want to apply effects via send/return. For each individual channel, the more effect you want, the more on 'wet' you want to go and vice versa.
I'm sold, great review! However, is it possible to use all the channels by mixing internally and connect my audio 2 dj soundcard in the USB audio interface?
@JyGius hi, the mixer is great. the knobs are not 'hard' but you feel quality instead of being all soft like a toy. Buttons are awesome, no clicks or bangs so they never break.
Question about the filter section of this mixer. If you select the HP filter and turn the freq. button all the way off (to the left) can you leave the blue filter button permanently on without it filtering the music? Or does it then apply a little bit of the HP filter (and cut the lows a little bit)? Enjoyed your review
@smurkej Maybe I should have mentioned that I mix trance , so I'm not in the market for a mixer with loads of FX such as the DJM800 ... that's one of the reasons I'm looking at the Xone mixers.
Hey would you say this mixer is better than the Pioneer 600? My 600 is old and I need a new one.. I figure I can use my old mixer to travel with and get a new one that I don't have to spend too much money on.. thoughts?
Hi, emireitor. Thanks for the great review. Just wondering: for the headphone cueing: do you hear adjustments of your EQ through the headphones? For example, if I cut the bass (on the EQ), do you hear that bass-cut in the headphones, too? Is there an option to turn this on/off like on the Xone:92? Thanks again for making this review!
Hi, Thanks for the review, very informative and well presented. I currently have a Behringer DJX750 mixer and am looking to upgrade as I've heard so many negative things about it, and so many positve things about the Xone mixers (42, 92 etc.) My question is - if I were to upgrade to a Xone 42 what difference would I see compared to my DJX750? Obviously the filters but what about sound quality and EQ etc. - just how much better is it? Is it worth upgrading for? Thanks for any advice on this.
so whats your thoughts on the mixer? better than a pioneer ? :) i´m thinking on buying one 2 ... dont need effects on the mixer cause i can use the ones in traktor...cheers
What about the master level led indicator? normally on pioneer the led level indicator grow up with the master button. But here i see, even if you turn master level to 0 you still have the master led indicators on. Why?
@iDouglas91 you can buy a xone 2d an route the outputs on the 2d to the 42 inputs , hook a usb to a laptop and start midi mapping your controls on the 2d and then mix away
Normally i use the master led indicators to know how much volume i need to have in club, like 3-4 leds for warm-up and the rest of leds until red to main act. But i see here the level indicators are on even my volume is very low
@igel78 igel, thanks for asking. Actually these faders are logarithmic, in increments, the real difference is per say from 75% of fader up. below that no real difference is felt. Now, i once saw a guy make a mod on a Xone 92 where he made them linear, meaning that the increments in volume wpuld be constant throughout the entire fader sweep. IDK if that answered ur question. Anyway, u learn to use it and this mixer is great. That is not a reason not to buy. cheersssss
hmhm, I also have the 42... I have one complain: the record out is independent from the main volume! If you have a look into the manuel: you can see a diagram which show through which knobs the music flows. simply shown: cdplayer->trim->EQ->upfader->crossfader->connection to record out->main out/ booth out
Actually "Split" function in the monitor area usually means that you hear your cue in the left headphone and the master output in your right (in case the monitors in the DJ booth go out probably)... I guess its the same on Xone 42, in which case you are misinforming but not sure about it ;)
@clockwork421 you k now ur right, I started using 2 channels with kontrol (sync auto) and for the 400s I set it up as straight so traktor doesn't mess with tempo....honestly, this makes you lose practice for beatmatching but then again....that wont be necessary with time I guess...
@sezuor he meant that i am not using then to beatmatch like they are supposed to. with software and sync button, the cdjs literally become just a control. you can beatmatch with traktor though, but by the vid you can see that i dont really use the jog wheel that much. cdj400s could easyly be one of the best cdjs ever made by pioneer. at least to learn and play in medium to big venues. cheers
Hi there, i would like to buy this mixer in combination with 1 or 2 xone k2 to control midi... Do you then still need a soundcard? Because the k2 has a built in one.. Or do you have to connect the cables for each individual channel? Thnx
@smurkej You might as well keep your current mixer for as long as you can until it blows up itself (shouldn't take long lol) and use it as a doorstep. The sound quality and overall build of Xone mixers is WAY beyond of Behringers. You will notice the difference right away. In the end, you should eventually upgrade, and I'm sure you'll feel much better when the Behringer is broken. :)
hi, I actually had a djm600, its was ok to learn but i will def. go with A&H. The effects on the 600 are not that great and the EQ is not full kill. Get rid of that dinosaur and go get yourself a xone 32 or xone 22 if you dont want to spend much money. Good luck!
@Localicu I like mixing 3 usually, but sometimes 4 is more fun, they have to be tracks that are not too busy and need to flow nicely, I usually mix the regular two but keep one or two loops from other, check out my short mix from setp. you'll see what I'm talking bout, cheers
@CireKGDJ Nope, its an analog mixer and its not midi capable nor will it work as a sound card for traktor. You can use this though if youre playing traktor DVS with a separate sound card of course. I also migrated from DDM4000 to this mixer and no way im turning back.
Record out the master (balanced) and use the booth as your monitoring level. Not what he suggests here. If you're making sure everything is at unity gain, you'll never clip your mixes, or if you're using a package like protools etc, use a limiter to clip anything that goes over 0db to bring it down without clipping.
hypercatjohn theres actually record outputs on this thing that work great. I figured out a great way to work which is running a set of rca's from record out to usb in, and than run usb to computer and record mixes through usb. and it still allows you to use the mic while recording
Justin Bates that's great but it still doesn't detract from record out being as 0db,any tiny twinge in the gains and you'll have clipping. Doesn't it make more sense for you to just record direct from USB? This mixer has that built in feature, doesn't it?
ahh I misunderstood. From my perspective I will usually just record through usb and adjust levels in the software i use to record. So record out into usb in on mixer, usb to pc, to audacity where I can adjust input levels. Unfortunately you can't just plug in the usb to record, you have to connect record out to usb in on the mixer
I get ya. When you adjust the inputs on any digital recording software, all you're doing is lowering the overall level of the recording, it'll stick pick up any clipping as that's coming direct from the mixers output (regardless of it's routing) PRESUMING the outputs are digital and not analogue - I can't remember if it's analogue or digital with this mixer. Hope that makes sense. The whole set up needs to be at unity gain (or as I prefer it, about -6DB) for it to be a clean recording. Recording at -6db will allow you to simply ramp it up once the mix is complete and recorded.
hypercatjohn That makes perfect sense. I think in my particular situation its a tad different because I have my 1200s routed through traktor, so I have -9db of headroom out of traktor, so as long as my levels arent peaking in traktor I believe it shouldnt peak in the mixer or record out as long as i stay below 0 on the mixer, plus it gives me lots of extra room in case i go above 0. Its a little confusing and can cause the recordings to be a tad quiet, but thats always better than peaking of course

@incasa2009 hey incasa, no, there are no effects on this mixer, other than the filters, which to be honest I like a lot. Pioneer has too much stuff and some djs over do it. I like to keep the music original and apply filters to make drops more fun . I do have a effects machine, efx500, but only use echo and delays...other stuff i get from traktor. hope that helped and DONT USE FLANGER, ITS SO GAY
I just bought this mixer and the sound is amazing.
@DJmarekPrice my friend, thanks for ur question. The EQ adjustments also apply to the monitoring system. Any changes you make, you will also hear them on your cued channedl in your headphones. No button or switch is specific to enable/disable this. I hope this helped.

Just bought this baby with 2 800 MKII's, was going to buy the 32 but you saved me ;).
Thanks a bunch bro!
ok im definately getting the xone 42 now, what a beast of a mixer, dont know why i thought pioneer shit would be better. goddamnit i cant wait
Split actually means youre gonna hear cue in one ear and master in the other and not what you were saying ;)
@smurkej
Maybe I should have mentioned that I mix trance , so I'm not in the market for a mixer with loads of FX such as the DJM800 ... that's one of the reasons I'm looking at the Xone mixers.
Thanks for this video, been looking at this mixer for a while and I think it's exactly what I'm looking for.
Nice review, was looking for a good one today and what a great timing. Thanks man!
Thank you for this review, quetion: about the dry/wet knobs down the filter select. where they apply? on filter?
very nice setup
will a 2nd hand traktor scratch perform well ?

You didn't demonstrate the external fx loop and I'm still not sure if it can send true prefade to external fx?
Still good talk thru.
How is the construction quality? Are the potentiometer "hard" to turn? And the buttons? many thanks...
Thanks for a great review. Considering this, denons best or djm 800.

Hi, great review! One question about the line faders - can they be switched from linear to logarithmic - and: what's the default in your setup?

Excelente tutorial. Tengo ese modelo dentro de un set de opciones. Gracias. Tu mezcla, muy buena...!!!
Great video man . thinking about getting this mixer and i think im sold.
awesome review mate. I wonder how many people like myself you have convinced to buy this mixer!
hmhm, I also have the 42... I have one complain: the record out is independent from the main volume! If you have a look into the manuel: you can see a diagram which show through which knobs the music flows. simply shown:

If using Traktor, can you run Traktor on all 4 channels of the Xone 42 Mixer??
very nice setup ! and video

really great review!! and good music taste too;), how many channels do you actually use for your mix?
So you can connect it to Traktor?
I dont get it, whats so nice about it? It doesent seem to have effects, it looks really sweet, but the only effect i can see is a filter?
so how is this better than djm 800 or even the djm 600? it has no effects and stuff?
@sezuor he meant that i am not using then to beatmatch like they are supposed to. with software and sync button, the cdjs literally become just a control. you can beatmatch with traktor though, but by the vid you can see that i dont really use the jog wheel that much. cdj400s could easyly be one of the best cdjs ever made by pioneer. at least to learn and play in medium to big venues.

it should, you know what i got it from ebay, its a Marathon, sorry i dont have specs

hi there, if its all the way to the left nothing will happen and the button can be left on all the time
i want this, i have a pair of technics , am i still able to use the effects for the turntables ?
nice review man !!!
but why do you use cdj 400 with timecodes??
they re traktor ready controllers with usb
yeah but they get all weird and I prefered to have scratch control at that time. I no longer have them now
i strongly recommend the krk rokits, i have the 6 and they are so accurate.
@emireitor
Exactly, I wish I had 400s to be used as the core base of my setup G. the 400s are staples STILL to this day. First real USB CDJ.
@gflor63 I really liked the xone 32, nothing wrong with it,

can i use this mixer with traktor in external mode? not like a midi controller.
good review mate..how much do u spend on the dj set?
Would you still recommend buying it for 500€ or is there something better and cheaper out?
Mic channel cant be routed to fx?
@afr3ak hey thanks a lot man, I am glad u found it useful !
@Localicu I like mixing 3 usually, but sometimes 4 is more fun, they have to be tracks that are not too busy and need to flow nicely, I usually mix the regular two but keep one or two loops from other, check out my short mix from setp. you'll see what I'm talking bout, cheers
excellent review dude!!!
@quickbeeare same thing dude, a mixer will do its job regardless of what software. regards
I had a 32 for ten years ... This seems loads better
nice review and good taste, thanks a lot!
Great review. Sad to see 400s being used as controllers essentially though.
Does this work with traktor pro?
@finerz1 that is correct. Thank you professor
great review!.. i need this is my life
nice!
track ID?
great review man, thanks
I‘m happy with mine, its a good mixer
awesome review bro !
great review mate
@SileDevil hi, yes of course, as long as you have al the hardware you should be good.
Does it pop when power on?
@CireKGDJ Nope, its an analog mixer and its not midi capable nor will it work as a sound card for traktor. You can use this though if youre playing traktor DVS with a separate sound card of course. I also migrated from DDM4000 to this mixer and no way im turning back.
wooohooooo!!! very nice!
eres español? me encanta tu equipo tio, estoy pensando en algo asi para un futuro cercano! que temazo por cierto
this is way better than the djm-800
im gonna buy it soon!
whats the song names? :D
Nice review!!!
