Your daughter is blessed to have videos to watch throughout her life & even into old age of her & her loving mother "having fun" in the kitchen!! I was my Mom's side kick starting in 1950 of us spending great times cooking in the kitchen. I was 5. Many years doing this, but no videos! I am blessed with a vivid memory. When God prepares a table before me in the Heavenly Kingdom, l'm sure Mom will be His sidekick!!
Thank you for this lovely note ❤️ As I watch videos from just a year ago she has grown so much! So yes I am grateful for these videos and I know she will be as well. My mom passed away a little over a year ago and what I would give for videos of the time we spent together 🙏🏼 Thanks so much for watching 😊
Made this twice now and it came out perfect both times! Thank you! 🍮 💞 Didn’t have a Flanera so I used a Pyrex glass bowl covered with foil, and my Instant Pot is 8 qt. I think. Cooking time was 40 minutes on high pressure instead of 15.
So good to hear! Thanks for the note! I’m also really glad to know that you can use a bowl covered with foil instead of the flanera 🙌🏻 Thanks for the tip! Stay in touch 😊
Having been raised in Central TX, steeped in Mexican culture, teaching Spanish, and thinking of being exposed to lots of Hispania😊, seeing a “flanera” for the very first time was a surprise. Thanks for the education, as well as a recipe for my favorite dessert.
Hi! Thanks for watching! Central Texas resident here too with Mexican roots and I only found the flanera after a Brazilian friend showed me her recipe for what they call kettle pudding. The Brazilian contraption is for the stovetop and so cool! I would do a show about it but I’m not sure if you can find the Brazilian pots in the US. 😢 Anyway, I feel ya on the flanera! I used to make it in a cake pan with a random lid 🤣 Now I own multiple flaneras so I can make 2-3 at a time over the holidays because they disappear so quickly! Hugs, Marie
Made this yesterday and my husband loved it. It was the first time I have ever made flan. Made 2 one in my instapot without the flanera and one in the oven with your recipe. I did however order me a flanera and it came in today so can’t wait to try to make one in it soon. Great and easy recipe
I always do the caramel in the flanera using low heat, that’s why is call a flanera you can make the caramel there, let it cool and then when the caramel has cristalize you pour the flan mix thats it.
Hi Silvia! Thanks so much for the tip! Do you hold it with a potholder? It gets so hot, I’m worried someone might get burned. That’s why I prefer a pan with a handle but I’m interested to hear your thoughts! Thanks again, Marie
So glad this was helpful! Yes I always do mine outside 😊 The newer instant pots have a cover that prevents the water from spraying everywhere, which is nice. Hope you get a chance to try the flan! Thanks for watching and for leaving a note - I always love to hear from viewers! ❤️, Marie
Hi Marie ! I have mold Flanara 8 oz . Should I use the same amount of your recipe and the cooking time the same too or not . If I double up the amount of recipes , how is the cooking time ? Thanks for sharing delicious dessert.
Hello! Thanks so much for watching 😘 I have not seen an 8 oz flanera … that seems really small, as 8 oz generally equals 1 cup. Is it an 8 inch flanera by chance? That’s what I have and my recipe fits just right in the pan. I’m not sure you could double the recipe in one pan unless it was pretty big. Wish I could be more helpful! Let me know if I’m misunderstanding your question and I’ll try to answer again 😊
Thanks for watching and for the tip! They are very convenient. I was introduced to a flanera by a friend from Brazil and I was so impressed! Had to have one for myself 🥰 Hugs, Marie
Hi! I would get the 7.5”. My IP pot is just about 9” in diameter so a 9” flanera would be too tight. Hope that helps! My flanera is around 7” wide but I have several and only measured the one … 7 or 7.5” would both be fine. - Marie
Great video, when I make my Caramel , I add the sugar and a few drops of water. I also add a pinch of salt to the créame mixture, otherwise a great video.
Oh my goodness! 😅 Exploding flan! I would do the same method as I use here - 2 cups water in the bottom, with the flanera on a trivet, and cook for 15 minutes on manual. I have not made queso flan this way but I can imagine why it would be any different. Hope that helps!
Hi Lani! Great question 😊 It should really be set up before it goes in the fridge. The fridge is more just for chilling. So after you cook it, let it cool on the counter for a bit, then gently unlock the lid and touch the flan with your finger. It should feel fairly solid. I always say to err on the side of overcooking because just a little overcooked is better than falling apart 😅 Generally does yours set up properly? Let me know, Marie
Hi! Thanks for watching! Oh gosh that’s a tough one! The sweetened condensed milk and cooked sugar both ad a lot of texture and flavor. Let me look into it! Will let you know if I find a replacement! Big hugs, marie
Hi! Yes! You can sub regular milk for evaporated 😊 Here is my recipe in the oven in case you want to check it out: mariesaba.com/recipes/mexican-flan/ How special to make your mom’s recipe! Hugs, Marie
Thanks. Great recipe. Coworkers loved it. My flanera has a handle on the lid which eased removing from my Ninja. Adding coffee was suggested. Should I add it to the blender or the caramel? I'm thinking of adding some it to the caramel. If successful I'll try matcha green tea powder.
Hi! So happy to hear everyone enjoyed it! It is such an easy yet impressive dessert 🍮 I haven’t done a coffee version but I bet would be delicious 👍🏻 Let me know how it goes. I think if I were to add coffee, it would probably be a bit of brewed espresso in place of some of the milk. Thanks so much for watching ❤️, Marie
Dissolved one tsp instant coffee with four tbsp water over medium heat. Made the caramel as usual then drizzled the coffee in slowly just before the caramel was finished. Then proceeded with the recipe as usual. Coworkers liked it. The coffee flavor in the caramel glaze was tasty. Subtle but not overwhelming.
That’s a really good question! I haven’t tried it without the caramel. My only concern is that the flan might get stuck in the pan? The caramel seems to provide a little protection from sticking. You might try adding a few drops of water to the caramel - I’ve heard that makes it easier to work with! Sorry I can’t be of more help, I will definitely let you know if I find out anything else. Thanks for watching 😊
l tried this recipe and l stuffed up the sugar, i tried to melt it on an induction plate it never browned but tasted burnt, the pot got too hot and the induction cooker would go off the boil and the sugar would stop bubbling, not something l will try again

My mom once thrifted a flanera but I did not know what it was. I need to look for it to make this. Thanks for sharing, Marie!
So interesting! I hope you can find it so you can try making flan! Hope you’re having a good year Elsie and thanks so much for watching 😘🥰
I watched several videos on "How To" make Custard Flan. Yours is absolutely the most complete and easy to follow. I'm going to make it right now!
Hi Sandra! I’m so glad to hear that! Thank you for the note ❤️ I can’t wait to hear how it turns out for you, so do keep me posted! 😘 -Marie
Flan is one of my favorite desserts in the world!
I have never made it before and I can't wait to try this recipe.
Hi Cheryl! It is so incredibly easy! You can make it in the oven if you don’t have an instant pot. Both recipes are on my website MarieSaba.com ❤️
The head pop was a pleasant surprise 😂 so adorable.

I love this recipe ❤ thank you
Wonderful very self explanatory❤ thank you 🎉
Thank you! 15 min. Beats the 1:15 I'm used to...😊
I like your suggestion to put on the porch because it sputters and could damage the wood cabinets or wallpaper. I have a tiny galley kitchen. ❤️
So glad this was helpful! Yes I always do mine outside 😊 The newer instant pots have a cover that prevents the water from spraying everywhere, which is nice. Hope you get a chance to try the flan! Thanks for watching and for leaving a note - I always love to hear from viewers! ❤️, Marie
Your recipe and technique are pretty much flawless.
BTW, she's so cute.
Can you do an oven version of flan please? I don t have an instant pot, but I want to use the flanera...it s just soooo cute!!
Hi Marie! Do you remove the lid until it cools to room temperature and then put it back on before putting it in the fridge to chill?
Hi! Thanks for watching! I leave the lid on the entire time - while cooling to room temp and while in the fridge. Hugs, Marie

I Mexico we don't use flaneras, any pyrex or cake pan will do. I reckon it must be very convenient though. Wouldn't mind getting one myself.
Thanks for watching and for the tip! They are very convenient. I was introduced to a flanera by a friend from Brazil and I was so impressed! Had to have one for myself 🥰 Hugs, Marie
You can bake in the oven for an hour at 350. Look it up. Great recipies on UA-cam
Yes! I do the oven version as well 👍🏻 Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more new recipes soon 😊
I like to put a dish-towel over the valve when releasing the pressure
There are two sizes for the Flanera, 7.5" and 9", do you know which one you have? is the the better fit for the instapot?
Hi! I would get the 7.5”. My IP pot is just about 9” in diameter so a 9” flanera would be too tight. Hope that helps! My flanera is around 7” wide but I have several and only measured the one … 7 or 7.5” would both be fine. - Marie
@@marieskitchen Wow! thanks for the quick response! that helps!
Would love the link to the flanera. Thank you!
Making this recipe for today, my 50th bday :)
Happy birthday Cintia! 💕 Hope you have a wonderful day! Can’t wait to hear how you like the flan, too! ❤️ - Marie
@@marieskitchen awww THANK YOU 💗 I'll give you feedback after we try it 😁🎉🎉
Great video, when I make my Caramel , I add the sugar and a few drops of water. I also add a pinch of salt to the créame mixture, otherwise a great video.
Can I get the link for the flan pan you use? Thank you ❤️
Love this thank you….sweet mom and cutee daughter….
for instant pot, it sounds like 15 mins at high pressure followed by quick release for a 7 inch diameter pan?
Do you happen to know how to do the queso flan in the pressure cooker? I prefer queso flan but last time I tried in the Flanera it exploded haha.
Oh my goodness! 😅 Exploding flan! I would do the same method as I use here - 2 cups water in the bottom, with the flanera on a trivet, and cook for 15 minutes on manual. I have not made queso flan this way but I can imagine why it would be any different. Hope that helps!
The best 🎉
Hi! I've made this recipe several times. But what do you do if it hasn't set properly after being in the fridge overnight?
Hi Lani! Great question 😊 It should really be set up before it goes in the fridge. The fridge is more just for chilling. So after you cook it, let it cool on the counter for a bit, then gently unlock the lid and touch the flan with your finger. It should feel fairly solid. @@marieskitchen Thanks, Marie! Good to know. We enjoyed it anyway. I'll definitely make it again.
I’d love to make this but how can you make it sugar-free I can’t use sweetened condensed milk
Hi! Thanks for watching! Oh gosh that’s a tough one! The sweetened condensed milk and cooked sugar both ad a lot of texture and flavor. Let me look into it! Will let you know if I find a replacement! Big hugs, marie
My mom makes it in the oven with leche evaporada y leche condensada. Can i subsitute regular milk for evaporated milk? LOL, sorry for the spanglish
Hi! Yes! You can sub regular milk for evaporated 😊

How much water do you add for a 6 qt instant pot
Hi Jason! Great question! 2 cups water 👍🏻 Let me know if you need anything else! - Marie

Hi! What size is ur flanerra? I have a 8qt ip..
Hi! It is a 1.5 qt flanera. About 7 inches in diameter and 2.5 inches tall. Plenty of room for it in an 8 qt IP 😊 Thanks for watching
@@marieskitchen TY🙏🌺🌺
Can you use any other pot inside ?
Can you do it without the caramel? I hate cleaning the melted sugar when it gets all over the place and stuck on the pan

Yes you can but why would you, the caramel brings it over the top.
What if i use evaporated milk instead of whole milk?
I think that should work!
It needed more cooking time with evaporated milk!! 😢 i think bc it fell apart lol
3quart instapot ?
