- Welcome back. Today Kelly shows us a quick tip regarding Deer Hair. A clean fly starts with proper preparation. Working with natural materials can be difficult, but if you prepare your hair properly, it'll make the tying process cleaner, and the final fly much prettier. This holds true for every fly and every material. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
We've got tons of hair in stock, check out Josh Varner's Deer Hair:

Well done on the thumbnail got a nice chuckle and some lessons to boot.
How did you find a thumbnail to match my nightmares?!?! 😂😂😂
Cool tips thanks for sharing
It does Kelly . I've learned a lot from you the correct way of doing things. Thank you! ken from Calgary Alberta.
After stacking and before tying in I seal the cut ends with a very small dip into a thinned rubber cement, it makes the float last a lot longer. You do have to be careful not to dip to deep or to long, and spread them out to dry before setup, otherwise they will glue to each other.
Thanks for the close-ups
Thank you.
Thank you for all the great info Kelly really shined a lot of light on the little nuances involved with deer hair I also wanted to ask if you ever find the time I stumbled across an old video of your ultra caddis it would be awesome if you could do an updated video of that really cool bug
Thanks
How often do you go to pyramid lake??
So where does short-fine hair come from? A particular part of the deer, a summer deer, a young deer? The reason I as is that I have complete hide that is currently in several large patches and if I have short fine hair there I would like to find it. Thanks in advance.
For sure! I shoot a couple deer every year and would like to know also!
