I made this! I switched the wood so that the short sides were against the wall, so it looks like a thicker canvas. It made it easier to screw together. I hung it with eye screws and wire. Mainly because I was hanging it on a two-story wall and it was hard to go on a ladder and get three screws level. I added command strips to the bottom. It helps keep it against the wall and to keep it level. I also used L brackets and put in 2 supports made of the same material as the frame. They were added horizontally, so it divided the square into thirds to keep it from warping or losing shape over time. The supports make it more sturdy and handled a move across the country. I originally used the frame with a different shower curtain. When I wanted to change the decore, I removed the shower curtain and the frame was still in perfect shape to put on something new.
Love the idea! Hack to add to your collection. Heard it from an amazing Toronto artist who I got a piece from years ago on how to hang canvases to drywall Even for something that large as you r describing - just use push pins. Yeap, the same ones that people used to pin papers to a cork board or a cubicle. Their design makes it perfect for canvas hanging. I didn't believe her at first as her piece seemed pretty heavy.. 10 years later - it haven't moved at all. .for 4' × 5' framed painting. 5 push pins. That's all. No nails, no fuss. Wouldn't work with concrete / brick /stone walls though Loved this segment & energy. :) thank u!
The ONLY reason I knew it was a shower curtain is because I saw it on Target’s website. I thought it was such a pretty print but NEVER would I have ever thought to make a canvas picture out of it. It looks BEAUTIFUL & had I not known it was a shower curtain I would not have believed it. It looks AMAZING!!! Thank you for such a great idea!!!
Yes a pocket hole tutorial. Love this. Shower curtains are so underrated. I have a outer shower curtain material type that had the red truck with Christmas tree. It has a nice red buffalo check. No one could believe it. It cost me $10 to make two center panels for two front windows. I cut in half and sew the edges.
OMG I LOVE this idea & look! Fabric paint with a metallic, glitter, or frosty finish would make a nice little accent on some of the design too. Some of the remaining shower curtain could be made into covers for toss pillows too. Command hooks made for mirrors or frames can be used to hang the canvas and save your walls. Thanks again for sharing 🙏
Perfect for what I need and art for the wall doesn’t fit my budget right now. A similar picture I looked at was almost 200.00 and I knew that wasn’t happening. I plan this for behind the couch. Thank you, this is the best DIY I ever ran across. Love the idea.
I just found your channel yesterday and am in love!!! I’ve used shower curtains for everything. Shower curtains are wonderful for custom dog bed covers and kennel covers. Outdoor rugs. And this year I used shower curtains as the lining for my hanging outdoor baskets. I never had such gorgeous baskets ever.
🎉Great ideas. Always seem to find nice shower curtains🚿 on the cheap. Using a plastic one as a planter🌱 liner is cool too. 👩💻Once saw a blog tutorial where they used the pine IKEA INGO table to conceal an unsightly kennel for a big dog. Once they tucked the table in a corner, they added a tension rods on the interior of two sides. It made the panels removable to wash. It gave the dog a cosy nook while concealing the metal cage. Although they had brackets on the entry side on each leg that would allow the curtain to swag back when the pooch🐶 was inside. 📚The top of the table was cleverly styled like a library console with propped layers of large wall art along the back, a large statement lamp in the corner, stacks of charming coffee table books, & objets d' art. The surface was also used as a sideboard to serve buffet food when needed. 🎉 Someone could tuck two smaller kennels under something similar too.🕵️♀️It adds structure while keeping a hidden secret. ☮💛🌼🦋
I have been wanting to make a wall tapestry for a small bedroom wall. Wow! You opened a can of worms for me, lol. What a novel idea! The options are endless. On the hunt now for the prettiest shower curtain. Yours is beautiful 🙂
💐 Yes, you could, but brackets are slightly more expensive. 🤔 Instead of doing mitered corners with the wood which is slightly tricky to cut & attach w/o pocket holes. 😊You can have boards cut in a simple square (ala "shaker style"). This way, you can drill two wood screws down from the side of the short piece into the end tip of the long piece on all four corners. 😉Since the fabric will cover the sides, you won't see the screws in the end. 🙄Depending on your "canvas" size, creating a frame from 1×2s might be slightly more stable. ☘Good luck.
I recommend waiting to get the actual shower curtain because the curtain was smaller than the dimensions listed and I had to get the wood cut a second time in order to fit the shower curtain wrap for each side.
I use art canvas as my frame and thumbtacks. The cost is a little more but less work involved. Have done this for years. I have used a large piece of cardboard too. So much fun!
This is my first time watching your videos and I was completely blown away..... I absolutely love your style and creativity..... You've got fantastic people skills and tons of energy..... I appreciate how you explain the entire process of the project..... Thank you for an terrific video
I did this yesterday, and I love it! The shower curtain in the video is 100% cotton (based on the linked info), and the one I picked was 100% polyester. Still worked great, but the frame is slightly visible through the curtain, so it’s worth keeping in mind for anyone else deciding on shower curtains. Thanks for the tutorial!
Hello, I want to make this and my curtain is also Polyester. Would it help if I was to put some type of board behind it? Also what color did you use? Mine is white and grey marble.
@@keeshabu mine has white and grey stripes with large pink roses on it. If I was to redo it, I think I would just paint the front of the frame white before putting the shower curtain on it. The white might still be slightly visible through the fabric, but I think it would look a little nicer that way.
Hi Cara, I have a large frame but it's made of metal, not wood. Any suggestions on how to secure the shower curtail to a metal frame? Would a staple gun still work?
This is beautiful! I’ve been wanting something very similar. Now just have to find the right shower curtain. I have no idea how I would make the pocket holes without buying a bunch of tools. I think I have the wood already. Hubby bought 1 x 2s but I needed 1 x 1s for my garden project. I have a circular saw, but that’s about the extent of it. Of course we have have hammers and hand saws and I might be able to find a miter box, just mind have to find help using it. I want to make this now! Thank you for the inspiration and tutorial.
I took on your challenge and sent a photo to my friend. Her response " I didn't know you could paint! I love the fake flowers you glued on in spots." When I told her it was made with a shower curtain she didn't believe me and had to come over. We're in quarantine so she could only see it through the window & still didn't believe me! I ended up having to take it down & show her the back then show her the front with the embroidered style flowers. Her expressions were priceless.
Hi, I finally found the courage to make this but ran into a small problem. Most shower curtains in stores are 70"x72". I followed your measurements exactly and brought everything home and my shower curtain was too small. No biggie, I will just have them cut it again. I will end up painting the wood because I can see it showing through the fabric. I can't wait to finish this. Thanks for the video!!
I have always been super traditional.......I used to design very traditional furniture and accessory stores for a living and was in charge of all merchandising.............that said...i cannot believe I admit this method of hanging that I just love......nails exposed at ceiling height but nailed into the wall........wire.......yes picture wire.....twisted to make a loop or doubled depending on weight of artwork of object dAYA art on the wall lol.........and a picture hanger on the back of the picture or artwork....very raw....very industrial ......art exhibit looking.
So I did this project and it turned out great I love it but let me give a few advise if you will do this the curtain is kind of thin so you might want to put another cloth underneath it .if you choose to do it without the extra cloth paint the board white because when the sun hits it you will see the board underneath .but if you follow what I told u everything will be ok and it will look beautiful . Also use command hooks the big ones to hang it and it works without putting holes in the wall .
Yes, I added a cheap white sheet behind the shower cutting and stapled them onto the frame at the same time and it worked great. No more see through fabric!

I wish you made a video or I would love to see a picture of the frame
while I have seen shower curtain art for years, I have never seen anyone stitch it to give a 3d effect... brilliant!!
It’s the touches of embroidery that make this amazing! (Using the different textures of yarn makes it even better.) Gorgeous!
Pocket hole tutorial please! 🙏🏼💞
When she said, if you are feeling lost.... I felt like she was talking to me!

Amazingly cheap, easy art!!
I just did my first shower curtain wall art canvas thanks to your brilliant diy tutorial! So simple to do, and it looks fantastic!!

I have had two of these shower curtains for over a year because I love them so much but didn't know what to do with them. I'm picking up my wood now!
Omg 😱. I love it ❤️. I want to use a waterproof shower curtain to add a mural in my outdoor shower.
OMG 😭, thank you! I was so sad, I couldn’t find anything afforable and this large for my wall. I’m so happy now 🥰🥰🥰
I did this and it turned out awesome. Definitely need to iron it first.
OMG!!!!! Love and going to do this for a large wall!!
Yes!! You have to let me know how it goes!!!

This is GENIOUS !!
Beautiful
Could you use “ L “ brackets ? For the wood ? Corners instead of pocket screws ?
Yes!! That’s my power tool free hack - let Home Depot cut the wood and build it with those instead
💐 Yes, you could, but brackets are slightly more expensive.

Adorable and simple! Love your design choice. Great job!❤️🙏🏾
Thank you!! 💖I’m so so happy with how it turned out 😊
I love the idea of adding embroidery. I am working on curtains, using sheets. Adding yarn via embroidery will be a wonderful bump up!
I recommend waiting to get the actual shower curtain because the curtain was smaller than the dimensions listed and I had to get the wood cut a second time in order to fit the shower curtain wrap for each side.
Just bought this curtain for the bathroom, might have to incorporate your creativity 👩🎨 great ideas!!
