The Petersens are a family of talented, attractive people who make very good music, but the biggest reason I enjoy them is that I can see they love each other.
Well thought out questions and very organic answers from Ellen. They are music, but also wholesome family with values that found a way to stick together in this complicated world. Great interview!
Ellen Petersen: "I love my family and I love the music we create" This genuine sentiment in my opinion is the real driver behind the Petersens success. Sure, its great that Ellen and her family are all extremely smart and hugely talented but the real secret sauce is their genuineness. So refreshing. Great Interview! Well done!
This family has every quality one could want to succeed, but it is their family love & authenticity which really endears their audience to them. Jolene was a super hit for you Ellen! They are a spiritual family too, which keeps people also devoted to them. Not to mention they often write their own original music too. They are the exact opposite of Hollywood superficial stuff, which pushes people away - Ellen auditioned for American Idol & Jennifer Lopez was so freaking jealous of her it was embarrassing. They do not even need to sell themselves since they are a natural ad for all of the above. Bless this family.
People are drawn to the true, the good, and the beautiful...it inspires the soul. The technical advice about promoting your online presence that Ellen gives is *superb* (she is a well-spoken and very intelligent person), but the old addage, "Content is King" is in my opinion the leading factor in their success...the Petersens not only present great music content, but they do so in a fun, caring, and joyful manner which is true, good, and beautiful.
I think their engagement rates are so high because people become instantly invested in their family and band. This is probably because they are so genuine and filling a huge gap of old-school family orientated youtube.
In 2020 we were able to a live performance in one of the smaller theaters in Branson. Their show was one of several we attended, but by far our favorite. At the end they took questions from the audience. They are the real deal. Talented, genuine, and humble.
I found the Petersens through their collaboration with Reina del Cid. When my family went to Branson on vacation recently, the Petersens show was highest on my list of things to do while we were there. As great as their videos are, the live show was even better. Getting to meet all the band members after the show made the experience even better. They are all as nice as they seem in the videos. This interview was great because it showed their journey and offered helpful info for content creators.
Thanks for making this video. Two years ago I was a struggling Christian and had rededicated myself to the continuous consumption or Gods word. Right about that time I saw the video Down to the River to Pray and have had their music playing in the background of my soul ever since. That family truly is a gift from God. I’ve always wanted to support them in some way and this video inspired me to get off my duff and join their Patreon. God continue to bless the Peterson family.
Thanks for the fun interview. Interesting to hear some more about the marketing strategies of their group. But it's always easier to market something if you have a quality product to begin with. That's where it starts. They worked really hard for many years on improving all the aspects of the band. I think one thing Ellen said was also really important, do not ALWAYS try to sell something. If people feel that you're for real, they will come to you and will want to support you. The Petersens are very generous with sharing their content and have a genuine interest in their fanbase. I think that, next to the quality music, is a big part of their fully deserved commercial success.
Precisely, you get the impression they're not in it for the money or fame. They get money and fame because they enjoy what they do and enjoy each other and their fans. They are authentic and humble. You heard her say she's just an average musician. That's what makes them so endearing. They're just like friends or family, somebody you'd want to sit down with and have a cup of coffee or tea. Ellen certainly has such poise whether on stage or in these interviews.
@@VoiceTotheEndsOfTheEarth, You have to love what you do but they have also done an extremely good job at using the resources available via the internet to make this their full-time commitment which is amazing!
Hello. I am a huge fan and member of the Petersens Patreon community. I found your interview with Ellen really interesting and I especially wanted to thank you for putting in the captions with subtitles. I am Italian and this has helped me a lot because, by activating the automatic translation, I was able to follow the interview in an almost optimal way. Don't be surprised if this video is also seen from Italy and other parts of the world, but The Petersens, with their music and their way of proposing themselves, with great humility and kindness, have created a large community of fans that really goes beyond the borders of the U.S.A.
Thank you for your kind words, Roberto. I am happy that the caption subtitles are helping you follow along with the podcast. Maybe I could add Italian subtitles next.

People (including the content makers....NOT TO TAKE AWAY FROM THEIR TALENTS) easily forget that their channel subscriptions skyrocketed because of the pandemic. No one was allowed to do or go out into the public pretty much, so where did they go? To the internet in places like youtube. It has actually helped millions of creators to launch their careers or their channels.......
That's when the Google algorithm recommended them. I said, "what, me listen to bluegrass, no way!" Then I was hooked and can't stop listening. The UA-cam concerts they did at that time were the perfect way to introduce themselves.
I posted this over on MY interview with Ellen (ua-cam.com/video/QZWDw1JUUCs/v-deo.html). Glad to see people have found it. The Petersens have an amazingly positive and loyal following. Blows me away!
A gentleman normally doesn’t contradict a lady in public…but (16:36) only two above average musicians in the Petersens? I’m obliged to differ. Ellen is a technically outstanding vocalist, often compared justifiably to Patsy Cline. Julianne’s voice is strikingly unique, highly expressive, and deservedly popular. Matt’s lead and rhythm guitar is as good as anyone else currently in roots music, and unless the ‘very average musician’ playing Branson residencies has a Masters in Music then Karen is definitely above average. We could also mention both Katie’s and Emmett’s highly sophisticated song writing. Yes, astute marketing is essential, but the quality and versatility of its core product is this band’s USP. My apologies, Miss Ellen, I’ll remember my manners next time.
I agree. Surely it is a gesture of Ellen's excessive modesty. They are all fantastic musicians and Ellen, in addition to having a wonderful voice, plays the banjo like few others. But I ask you one thing: shouldn't you say Mrs Ellen instead of Miss Elen, or does the term "miss" also apply to married women? It's just my curiosity. I am Italian and I don't usually speak English.
@@Roberto-pd8vn Allow me to try to answer your question Roberto. Basically you're right, if you know a woman is married she should be addressed as Mrs. However in some parts of the US, particularly in the South, it is very common to address married women as Miss. At least that is how I understand it. Have a nice day.
@@FrankvdMuijsenberg Thanks Frank. In fact, the doubt came to me that it could be said in both ways. Have a nice day to you too. P.S. I also wanted to ask you something else. You will have seen that Julianne has released the "short" video "Mr. Sandman". I wrote the lyrics with the chords, but I'm not sure if all the words are right, as she changed something from the original text. Can you take a look at it?
@@Roberto-pd8vn Thanks for your comment. Famously, on the 1980s TV show ‘Dallas’ the matriarchal character, a married women and mother of grown men, was addressed as ‘Miss Ellie’.
