Here are some fun ways to teach children how to rhyme.
    Rhyming songs
You Tube has so many rhyming songs for kids. I convert You Tube songs to MP4 format using Keepvid. Then I upload the songs onto Dropbox in a folder labeled rhyming songs. Classic nursery rhymes are also good! You can have the kids use highlighter tape and hunt for rhyming words.
    Rhyming cube
Purchase a cube with clear pockets or you can make your own using a cupcake box or tissue box. You will need six pictures. The child rolls the cube, says the picture, and produces as many rhymes as they can. You can do with one on one or with a whole group. This is great during transition time. To minimize chaos instead of having the whole group shout out rhymes ask only the girls, boys, red shirts, shoe laces, etc. to shout out rhymes.
    Oops wrong rhyme
I like to play a game called “oops wrong rhyme.” While talking to your kids say something like this, “I need fizzers to cut this paper.” Then say, “Oops wrong rhyme!” The kids have to correct you by saying the correct rhyme. You can do this with any word because it doesn’t matter if the rhyming words are real words or nonsense words.
    Erase a rhyme
On your white board doodle a few pictures. For example, bat, bee, fish, house, kite. Say a word and the kids have to erase a rhyming word on the board.
