I have a feeling that OS and Omniverse share the same storyline and universe while AF and UF are a different storyline and universe. Because ben never mentioned anything about Feedback none of his aliens wore clothes in AF and UA, even Vilgax in this version didn't have anything similar to Vilgax in Omniverse and OS. He had a sword and a gaunlet, can shoot laser from his eyes and can fly in space.

My favorite episode.
Pretty sure it was part of his plan to save him. Like he said to Gwen, "You care about not hurting me. And that's why, you don't have what it takes to deal with Kevin". He's faced Kevin before, and understood clearly why he is who he is, and therefore, decided to be serious to stop him well and proper. He knew that, right now, he's running on rage and power like when he was younger. If defeated as normal, he'd flee to some corner of the universe and start life again until someone like Quarrel taught him to cool down and become normal. He didn't want to lose Kevin again, as Ben's code is to trust, give them a second chance and let them redeem themselves.
Ben thinking Gwen died was very dark. Him saying "it should have been me" repeatedly definitely shook me at the time watching
That line alone just shows that he really does care for his cousin despite the constant bickering they get into

Darkest part for me is when Ben didn’t hold back anymore and wanted to kill people especially Kevin. That was super dark
TRUE! I love the plot lines that have heroes being pushed to a limit and being ready to cross some major lines. That’s part of what made Varian’s turn to evil in season 1 of Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure so engaging.
I love it when the heroes suddenly turn into anti-heroes. It just shows that these people are still humans and they still have limits with their emotions.
The most chilling part is that there's nothing really stopping Ben from destroying multiple civilizations other than his morality.

Last time he used alien x, he became a sadist who pitted his friends and enemies against each other and enjoyed a battle royal.
Ben 10 is still one of the best fucking shows ever made, Ben turning into Ghostfreak and scaring Zombozo to stop him and wave the day was so badass and scary from their perspective, especially considering Ben didn’t even have full control over Ghostfreak and he even freaked himself out, then him escaping the Omnitrix because he was actually trapped inside was such an awesome twist even as a kid, so cool man! 😄

I'm surprised they didn't mention the 'Camp Fear' episode. Its heavily implied that literally 90% of the campers were eaten/digested alive by a massive sentient underground fungalspore. They only save 3 kids in that episode.

A monster that would use the humans it consumed to wipe out all humans in less than a day. Gut-wrenchingly terrifying.
Actually, a earlier scene in the episode indicates that the campers and camp personnel evacuated before the Tennysons arrived. Those three just so happened to be left behind accidentally.

It scared me the first time I watched that episode, I'd probably get the hell out of there and not experience what it's like to be beaten by any of Ben's aliens/various transformations and their Ultimate Forms
I also like how in that episode, Ben neglected Kevin’s idea of using Way Big to win against that Forever Knight (which I agree with Kevin, that would’ve be hilarious 😂), but Ben decides to fight honorably and use Spider Monkey to make the match pretty even.

I think the darkest moment for me was when Ben was legitimately ready to kill Kevin after he attacked his friends and Gwen. Really shows just how serious Ben can be when you hurt those closest to him.
I like that aspect of ben, because it angers me that batman lets people like the joker live, ben is willing to kill to the pile of bodies stops growing

@@Evankiller122 ok, even then what angers me about Batman is he’s smart enough to make contingency plans to stop the justice league, but doesn’t apply that intelligence to stop the killers from escaping, also putting them back in arckem which is proven to be unable to keep them contained. If your morality is so unstable that killing a monster will turn you into one, then at least he could put the effort to stop them from escaping

@@crimsoncrusader518 Oh, definitely. There’s nothing wrong with levity. I think we can all agree that cartoons become great when they get some serious moments to balance against it and don’t just try to appeal to the youngest audience possible for no reason other than to make money.
I mean, Young Justice REALLY nails it when it comes to balancing grimness and levity. Just as an example.

You know what’s the scariest thing about Ghostfreak? His true name is not revealed or spoken outside of references. The name Zs’Skayr definitely sounds sinister, but neither he nor the characters mention it, even WatchMojo here doesn’t make note of it.

What makes the recreation of the universe far darker is that Ben technically has no actual family there all the people in the new universe are not the original people he knew meaning if he actually gave that a thought it would probably break his mind knowing he's actually completely alone in this new universe

Demon Wolf the plot line is basically almost identical to jojo part 6 stone ocean manga where pucci resets the universe only living emporio al nino all alone in this new universe with no family or friends to recognize.

Well the problem with Kevin was not only that he was violent but also being a ticking time bomb which grew stronger and more power-hungry/mad after each victim. Like I always felt that Ben wanted to kill him so he couldn't grew to strong and endager even more humans

I believe Dwane McDuffie actually believed that Darkstar was Ben's most dangerous enemy.
The fact that Ben recreating the universe is on but not Ben dying when Vilgax killed Chromastone is wrong. This wasn't like the time Ben sacrificed himself so the Ultimate Aliens could live, Ben was murdered for a brief moment. If recreating the universe is dark, so is him getting blasted when the Annihilargh exploded in A New Dawn

Ben didn't die as chromastone he simply switched forms and was apparently in a Hibernating period the omnitrix does not allow death to it's wearer unless it is beyond it's scientific abilities such as universe warping or time tampering Ben didn't die and neither did chromastone he simply switched to a more useful form I'd suggest you dig a little bit deeper into the story in which you are telling before attempting to say it is dark that's like saying when the hybreed blew swampfires head apart and no one saw it coming that he was still alive and could regenerate that part of his body it wasn't dark it was a dark moment to show a characters power but that's like oh idk any superhero who somehow pulls a form out their butt and comes back from near death like oh idk hmm how about a lot of marvel heroes DC etc
@@RomaroBrandon again goop wasn't that bad and Ben knew the risks and he also knew that there were things around to help him breathe. the darker or darkest part of that episode is we literally hear Ben be crushed to death by agregor and he is still alive and able to change into big chill to save himself
Zs'Skayr and Malware are definitely among my top 5 favorite villains from the "Ben 10" franchise, especially since they gave us two of my favorite darkest moments from this franchise.

That moment when Ben threatens to wipe out the Forever Knights if they don’t end the Purge is AWESOME! It gave me the same vibe as when Korra threatened to keep Bataar Jr away from Kuvira at all costs for the rest of her life in LoK season 4.

The various shows may have had dark moments, but that's what made them so enjoyable to watch
As a kid, I’ve watched the beginning of Ben 10, there are some episodes that I consider fitted for Halloween time but never occurred to me that they were dark.
Alien Force and Ultimate Alien were much darker and it never occurred to me to consider any scenes to be darkest to fuel nightmares.
As for Omniverse, with it’s redesigned and Ben’s personality having degrease, it was less dark than the two.
Though, thinking about what Ben went through as a kid, he would have suffered anxiety like Steven Universe if it wouldn’t for his friends and family to help him.

@Crea Teach To me, Alien Force/Ultimate Alien is the peak Ben 10 era. The original show is the weakest for me, due to its loose focus on long-term storytelling and mainly consisting of one-offs. Ben's personality can get kind of grating too, since he's constantly cocky and arrogant. I know he has his good moments, but to me, it's more of a 60/40 split. I also don't like the fact that Ben and Gwen constantly argue and borderline hate each other. I'm glad they fixed this in UAF where the two have matured and actually care for each other.

Oh yeah ghostfreak trying to takeover Ben was really creepy but not as much as his transformation once he got separated. That upside-down skull is an image that I will never forget.

Unfortunately cartoons post 2013/14 (same year Omniverse ended) are for kids. Only exception i can think is Invincible. RIP action cartoons
I've always had issues with that statement. One being that children can handle darker themes. Just look at Revenge of the Sith which was PG despite having Anakin burn alive, strangle his pregnant wife and the results of when he killed many child soldiers.
Not to mention a lot of shows in the 2010's tried to court an older audience but either mishandled more mature topics that the writers could not handle or tried to apply playground logic to them even when the stories shifted to things that were less personal and on the grand scale the vocal adult fans claimed to want (RWBY, Steven Universe and Legend of Korra are all big examples)
Didn't help that, as new blood came into the industry, for some reason, people just saw children's media as 0-5 year olds rather than also including 6-9 and 10-12 year olds.
What made the episodes stick out more was the levity and characters developed between these moments, giving more tension..
Cartoons are for kids because kids love's the scary things to prove that they grow up even if they are only 9 years old

Kids love to do a test of courage. Plus, if kids weren't supposed to handle scary stuff, then we wouldn't have child actors in horror movies.

Mine too. But for twisted reasons. I love it because that's his most vulnerable phase of his life. The one in which he's the most innocent and malleable.
The Ben 10 franchise had a lot more on-screen deaths than I remembered upon rewatching. Including the close-up on-screen (obviously temporary, but still) lifeless corpses of all 3 main characters in ultimate alien when Charmcaster took their souls. Like, okay, lifeless body is one thing, but the close up of their faces, dead eyes and mouths hanging open was real dark.

In the OG series, they obviously did love each other, they just didn't like each other. Although by the series finale they finally did start to appreciate each other, which was the reason why Max took them both on the road trip.

Gosh, that episode was dark. It wasn't even confirmed that he died until Omniverse, I believe.
Honestly, I think that episode would've been better if rather than having *ARGIT,* they had the Plumbers' Helpers tell Ben & company about what happened to Pierce and work from there rather than having Argit tell them about what's going on with aliens on Earth.
This makes me wanna revisit my childhood and re-watch Ben 10 again

I mean, in the episode where we first learn Ghostfreak has his own consciousness, I actually felt bad for Zy'Skayr. Imagine his point of view. He's a sentient being forced to live inside the Omnitrix, and the only time he gets a taste of freedom is when Ben used his DNA, and even then it's not true freedom because until that episode, Ben was the one in control. Eventually all sympathy went out the window. Part of me wishes they went another way with his character, and had him be a little mentally unbalanced, sort of like his time in the Omnitrix traumatized him, and have Ben help him, maybe even becoming one of Ben's allies. Just a little what if on the character.
Looking at from point of view ghostfreak before knowing it was evil. You can kinda understand why he did it think about it being stuck stuck in a watch for God knows how long. Being use as toy for a child and being forced to be used. I think anyone in the situation would go crazy.

I believe the popup fact files suggest that Zy'Skar deliberately put himself in the Omnitrix, hoping to claim it's power for himself, I believe he was possessing the alien whose DNA was sampled for Wildvine, so don't feel TOO sorry for him.

When I decided to watch Ben 10, I turned on my TV to watch an episode randomly
And the first episode that I saw was the very first episode ("And Then There Was 10")
Honestly, I would also like to say one of the reasons Catch a Falling Star is the darkest episode is that, outside of Ben's transformations and the weapons, everyone in this is human.
What I mean is that aliens are not a stand-in for anything in the episode like the chameleon alien being held in Guantanamo Bay style captivity in place of a human experiencing the same thing. Nor is it the Forever knights killing an adolescent on a date because he's part alien rather than a more direct lynch mob.
This showed a big level of depravity and that it was all human.
7:23 my memories of that episode are hazy, but Vilgax's expression there is kinda humorous for me. I dunno if its trauma from being frozen, confusion that someone unfrozen him, or the sight of Kevin's mutated form xD

They wanted to be free of their prison in the ultimateix, and to do that, they thought they had to sacrifice Ben from within the device.
Ben ultimately ends up sacrificing himself to free them, though he lives, the Ultimate Aliens get their freedom. Azmuth then takes them away from Earth to a new home for them.
What the first person said, Kyber must have found that planet, and killed Ultimate Humongousaur.
This show prepared me for what to expect in the real world way before my parents were ready to!

I know there were some fucked up moments in the show but I really loved the show when I was a kid and still am today. While I wasn’t a big of Ben 10: omniverse it still had some heartbreaking moments like the OG Ben getting destroyed. I really love that you guys made it brings me nostalgia. The only thing that was scary about the show in my opinion was zombozo and maybe that Morningstar episode

In the episode, Ben looked more sad than hurt, and he probably just decided to give up. Which is a bit confusing, how can Ben be defeated by Hex and Charmcaster, but can beat Vilgax? I guess Ben was depressed about Gwen and Kevin, that even though he gave it his all, he didn't give all 100%. I don't know season 3 of Alien Force is weird.

I do like darker kids stuff (SWtCW is by far my favorite part of the franchise, for expamle) saying that everything, espacliy kids shows, _need_ to be dark (or at least have dark elements) is some real needlessly edge cringe shit. Stuff can just be fun, and if that's not your cup of tea don't watch. Of course there needs to be dark and deep media, but if that was 110% it would be boring

Oh yes I remember Charmcaster's ritual. yeah One had to feel for charmcaster. She just wanted her dad back but because of the way that she had to revive him he was like "nope I can't come back when so many others have died for this" I was an emotional wreck after this episode especially as one without a dad...... Well he's not dead but you know I didn't really get to know him. So I could kind of relate to charmcaster in that way
