Especially when we consider how dangerous AI can be. In corporate war between Arasaka and Militech badly written AI shoot any ship just because it could have an enemy on its board. And it made cruises impossible so now people had to travel by train. Still people from all Around the world come to Night City because railway is that efficient. But by that example you get how flawed AI's logic without perspective can be

The beauty of siding with Netwatch as a revenge against the Doodoo bois is that you can make them taste their own medicine.
    - They are forced to work with you knowing that you are extremely shady, just like you when you are forced to work with them.

Yes, but then seeing how Evelyn tried to persuade V to betray Dex DeShawn, it stands to reason that Evelyn might also try to betray V if the mission had turned out as planned. And I have pretty much the same thought with Dex DeShawn. DeShawn was in hiding for 2 years, could it be that happened because he pulled the same stunt he did with V with another merc? In the end the whole Konpeki heist feels like a "V's screwed every way it turns out" job.
The most annoying thing for me is that the game gets rid of Jackie way too early, because this job is only in the game to kill off Jackie and get V to "inherit" the Relic chip and Johnny Silverhand.

@tjroelsma I don't think she was planning on backstabbing everyone. She wanted to betray Dex because he's "the middle man." Evelyn came up with the plan, Dex just had to put together a crew and organize the heist. Yet he's taking 70% of the payment(60% if you tell him that Ev wants to cut him out).
Evelyn had no reason to stab V's crew in the back.

    • @tjroelsma
      @tjroelsma 10 місяців тому +12

@@elitegamer9310 It's possible, but I kind of doubt it. Look at how that heist played out.
Evelyn has a favoured customer, Yorinobu Arasaka, who has klepped the Relic from Arasaka and Evelyn hears about it. She then came into touch with the Voodoo Boys, who wanted to pay her for stealing the Relic. But it's pretty clear she never intended to hand them the Relic, so that's betrayals 1 and 2.
Then she hired Dex to do the job and the moment V contacted her, she tried to cut out Dex, so that's betrayal 3.
So what would stop her from betraying V and Jackie as well?
As I see it Evelyn was a doll with very big ambitions and very low morals. No "honour among thieves or that shit."
Even Judy said that Evelyn was taking way too much risk and with 20-20 hindsight I think that went way deeper than "just" ripping of Yorinobu Arasaka.

There's more reasons: While NetWatch might be a corp when all's said and done, they have perhaps the best reputation of any corp in the world for being true to their avowed policies - particularly NetWatch Pacific:
NetWatch Pacific used to be under the supervision of a netrunner called Magnificent Curtis. The guy pushed his people to not only be good netrunners, but to respect local laws when doing so. Even Rache Bartmoss himself held Curtis in high regard for his skills and principles.

I came at this situation knowing a bit about both from the tabletop game. Pacific Netwatch is about as close to good guys as a Corp can get (less so the Netwatch branches in the rest of the world). They really do know the outcome of the Blackwalls (yes, plural) being breached, and work daily to not let that happen, putting their brains on the line each time. Voodoo Boys, on the other hand, subverted a religion and removed it's leaders violently. In game rumor is that they tried to do it once before with the Blood Nation of Nomads, but failed and fled to the opposite side of the continent to keep their heads attached to their shoulders. Needless to say, I went in, didn't kill anyone and made the deal. Then I took great joy in beating Placide with my bare fists, fire knuckles burning him down, because eff those guys.

And Voodoo Boys, since I love seeing how shocked they are upon realizing you just got zeroed before getting back up and walking it off like it wasn’t no thang. Both sides were using you, but Netwatch at least wasn’t trying to kill you afterwards, which makes them the best choice from a lore perspective as well.

Surprisingly simple choice here. By the time you encounter the Netwatch agent, you've already found out through Evelyn Parker's BD that the Voodoo Boys were responsible for frying her behavioral chip the moment they realized she knew more than she should've regarding their plan to steal that experimental biochip from Arasaka. Also Placide had NO idea about the biochip in V's head during their initial meeting (automatic red flag that he was already acting against his own boss' orders at the time, lol), so there was NO trusting that back-stabbing turd whatsoever. Netwatch, on the other hand, are all about keeping total order in cyberspace so they're pretty much a neutral party at best. Besides, that agent happens to like old school westerns so he can't be all that bad 🤠👍!

Placide didn't know about the biochip to begin with. Brigitte makes that clear when V mentions that he didn't recognize it. The VDB would also have brought Evelyn to the same fate REGARDLESS of if she just did her job or organized the heist because, like everyone who is an outsider, she's a ranyon. This is one of my favourite things about this game, there is no straight line through it, you can't really just "pick a side" and stick with it unless you're ok with making some pretty questionable moral choices that affect your friends and companions and will have an impact on those relationships. Sometimes your goals align with the corps, sometimes with the gangs, sometimes with your friends, sometimes with your own plans, sometimes it's simply based on being a merc and getting the job done and others it's about "doing the right thing" whether that aligns with what you want or not.

@@Slowpoke3x Lmao no, Netwatch might not be perfect but they are the reason the net in Cyberpunk could exist at all. If there were any "good" corporations in Cyberpunk, it's them.
The Pacific Ocean region branch of Netwatch is actually THE perfect example of a good corporation in that universe (tabletop lore). They are actually doing their job as best as they can and are not corrupt as hell. They are such paragons that even people like Rache Bartmoss and Spider Murphy respect them A LOT. Even ALT decided to work with Netwatch to build the Black Wall after Rache destroyed the Net during Datakrash.
They're good enough compared to other corpos, that Yorinobu CHOSE to sell the Relic to them and nobody else. And Yorinobu is the secret "good guy" who is trying to destroy Arasaka from within. He literally only rejoined because he saw that even Johnny's nukes couldn't kill Arasaka and so he concluded that only an insider could kill Arasaka. He is as "good" as it gets for an Arasaka.
Netwatch might be internet cops, they might be too strict/restrictive sometimes. Heck, some of their branches like the Japan branch might even be corrupt. But Netwatch is infinitely better than the VDBs. The strict internet cop part is necessary because if they didn't do that, some idiot netrunner(s) like the VDBs could end up breaching the Black Wall and letting the insanely dangerous rogue AIs in, destroying the net entirely and throwing everyone back to the pre-internet age.

Because, why is she trying to sell specifically to Netwatch, just like Yorinobu? She could easily sell to some other Corp like Militech and simply disappear, if that was her goal. But she chooses Netwatch as her choice and if you press her for more details, she gets all quiet about it. In which case, her stealing it and pretending to pawn it to the Voodoo Boys but informing V that they both should skip Dex (who is fixing for the Voodoo Boys)....it's like, something is missing here. It’s the same reason I punch fingers on every gung ho, aggressive, shotgun build, yet refrain from doing so on a cold and calm samurai build. Well, that and the QianT.
What CP2077 lacks in story decisions, it makes up for in roleplay decisions, and sometimes that’s just as good.

In Phantom Liberty, actually, helping Netwatch in this quest means that the Netwatch agent in the gig "Treating Symptoms" recognizes you and makes it a bit easier to get on his side and get a great outcome for the quest (that being you protect your client and allow Netwatch to rat out the entire nest of VDB cybermurderers rather than just one guy)

I sided with Netwatch because I approached this mission like a true merc, a dying one. They did not have my loyalty, I did not owe them anything, everything was for me, for my own benefit. So what I did was side with Netwatch and then kill the agent after the conversation ended. I didn't care about any of them, I just wanted to get more information to save myself, and in the course of that, help Judy in some way. Cause both of them are shady as hell, is not like I really really need to pair with one or another, both of them were the just the means to achieve my goal

The VDB leadership put up a big front about looking after 'the little people' in their territory. But when the AI-Apocalypse came, Brigitte and co planned to cozy up to the Blackwall AIs, save their own skins and leave everybody else hung out to dry. That and the entire "Ranyon" thing is why I always say, "F### Those Guys. Totally".
I get the strongest impression that Placide was completely unaware of this plan. If so, an interesting quest option might have been to come back from your meet with Alt, and let him know about it. But, given V's lack of status as an outsider / Ranyon, he very likely wouldn't believe V. An interesting thought though - watching Placide go Full FPS on the others would have been entertaining.

To your point about Evelyn. Yes she provoked them, but because she was also a ranyon to them they would have likely killed her after she gave them the braindance anyway. Loose ends and all that. I killed the Netwatch agents, and then the VDBs after talking to Alt. Neither side is altruistic. At several points the game tells you that Netwatch is just another arm of the corporations, and do their bidding.

As a Haitian man, I was very excited to see Haitians speaking real Kreyol in a video game. I could tell that many were not real Haitian voice actors(they never are). However, I thought they did a decent enough job with the accent. And it was not just a single Haitian character, but an entire faction of Haitians playing a pivotal role in the narrative and universe! Sure, this is not the first time Haitians are depicted as just a gang of treacherous villains to be gunned down by the protagonist. GTA did this once back in the 90s. However, I'm still waiting for the day when modern media will actually start to depict Vodou as Haitians see it, and not always something dark and evil. I understand that many of the more interesting elements of Vodou are the dark and macabre stuff, but it would have been so cool to see one of these characters go out of their way to help V. After all, Vodou is a faith about helping others. Sure, sometimes that "help" can come in the form of an angry god reaping the souls of the guilty. However, I just think that some more character nuance would've been interesting, rather than the cliche "Brains vs Brawn" dichotomy between Brigitte and Placide. Either way, it was so cool that Cyberpunk did this!

You were meant to die as well when they all got purged. He basically nuked their entire subnet while you were in it.
The only reason V survived was bc Alt pulled them out right before it got nuked, only bc you were intangled with Johnny, she probably would have left V to die as well if that wasn't the case.
Legitimately the best action to take is to take out the netwatch agent, then later take out the voodoo boys. Then pretty much everyone who tried to backstab you gets whats coming to them
