I didn't really explain why I dumped the gunk from the other filter in this tank. The filters are where the beneficial bacteria live that eat the ammonia and nitrite that is produced from fish waste. By squeezing out my sponge filter from my established 120 gal, I basically stole some of it's bacteria to jump start the filter on this new tank. It's one way I have done in the past and others do to "instantly" cycle a new tank.
Here is the filter I mentioned: www.amazon.com/AQQA-Aquarium-Biochemical-Submersible-Filtered/dp/B08KY5F2CL/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=aqqa+55+gallon+sponge+filter&qid=1630383954&sr=8-5
Looks great Kyle! Enjoying this project🙂👍🏻
Thanks!! Always great when you can get the family behind more tanks and fish :-)
