excellent use of the baby swing. that will create some memories. considering rebuilding my 86 ranger 2.3 after 400,000+miles. thank for a look at the step by step.
Excellent video man! I ended up with my dads 88 ranger after he passed last December, and as I type this I'm sitting here in the garage with it just about ready to bolt to the engine stand. It's got a healthy rod knock, and 200k. I'm going to start tear down, and get my 6 year old daughter involved too! Quality bonding time! Kick ass video man, and good work.
I to this day. Remember my father rebuilding my honda I had bought when I was 12. He blew the engine letting a water pump go. Anyway he rebuilt it. I believe I was so impressed it stuck & I love learning. I am still extreeme newbee. I am Hotrod' ing out my Ranger. My first build so watching reading learning. I am thinking a mustang motor.
Such a nice build! I just bought a 96 ranger 2.3 with 405k miles I didn't even bother to check when I bought it lol. I feel ima gonna have to rebuild . do you have a list or link I could go to for these parts?
yes, all the parts came from northern auto parts, the rebuild they sold i was very happy with it. They also carry valve springs and the rocker arms also for that engine. Everything else came from O reillys.
Oh God, is that a TK5 in the background?... I've had so many headaches with the one I have. I'm surprised you didn't use a roller cam. That's a good way to get your daughter involved in shop stuff later. I'm surprised you didn't paint the timing cover. Btw, what year of block was that; '87?
I'll be forever grateful if you reply. I'm debating buying an '06 Ranger with 144k as my first car. I'd want to rebuild it or have it rebuild right away. Given I take excellent care of the car, how many miles could I crank out of the 2.3L?
hello, with regular maintenance they last about 300,000 before a rebuild what i've seen so far, this engine had 378,000 miles on it before i rebuilt it and it definitely was time.
Ethan my 2.3 is about 330,00 miles and no major mechanical problems with it and doesn't burn oil, that the head gasket blew but just used some gasket sealant and put it in the radiator to fill it
I have had 4 - 2.3L rangers ... they all made it over 200,000 miles, I had one go over 300,000 and it's still going with someone else driving I don't know the number, I am currently driving one that has 265,000 and it's running fine! :)
thank you, yes but you have to have the specialty tools. one is the one to inject air in the cylinder to hold the valves up and the other is the special cam tool to compress the spring and remove the rockers.
What a great Guy you are. Sincerely reading the questions. You respond every time with a: May I help.... Impressive human. Hope to see a build you have a car show in the future. Or what ever business you decide.
@@bDub779 Yeah my 94 has 327,000 miles on original engine. She's getting tired, trying to decide if i should rebuild her.... she's such a slow turd but they're simple engines that last...
I just cant see how this is really helpful for anyone not pausing the music to explain why or what or torque specs or what you were calibrating you have skills sure but watching a video fast tracks of the process or talking about the tools that are needed for the job for the inexperienced person my opinion should have never made a video if you wasn't going to teach something.

Thank you very much, an't nothing better then getting the little ones involved. Hope your rebuild goes well.

Awesome video , FFDP adds some badassery. You earned a Subscriber.
cool video man. love these little Lima engines
Thank you
Hopefully you'll read this. How much did it cost to rebuild?
Are you pouring oil on top of the crankshaft? I have a 2.3l that im going to rebuild myself & would love to get any tips from you that you may have
Ah a fellow ffdp fan
Getting ready to do my lifter in my 96 2.3 4L what's the gap clearance?
The baby made me laugh. Ive so been there.
Is this the Lima or the Duratec? I didn't think the Lima came with 16 valves.
cobbhc its a lima
Cool thanks :)
Is that gas or diesel?
I need to rebuild just my head. Is it easy to leave the block in the truck and reassembly everything afterwards or should I pull the whole motor?
yes, it is possible to rebuild the head there is enough room, I Know on my 85 ranger there is.
Yeah. Once you remove the intake and things like that you will have a ton of room. Ive seen guys replace rods and pistons without dropping the motor.
Nice build! Whats the name of the tool used to install springs and roller arms?
Hey I have a question, how much do you think it weighs could two guys thift it from engine bay?
Don't do it. Someone trips and you've got problems.
350-400lbs fully built. I wouldnt try it.
okay thanks, its not light like 150 lbs transmission?

Yes it is and rebuilding it was a pain, just went with a stock rebuild for a beater truck lol. date of the block is a 85.
What intake is that?
Is the 2.3 going into that '55?
I'm dropped transmission on my chest and bench press them when reinstalling

My ‘93 I bought in ‘96 is currently at 486,000 miles. And still purrs.
Cool video. I need to replace my lifters. Can you do it in car?

Need ur help, rebuilding ford 2.0 or ford 2000 motor same as the one you did in this video
what do you have a question about.
What a great Guy you are. Sincerely reading the questions. You respond every time with a: May I help.... Impressive human. Hope to see a build you have a car show in the future. Or what ever business you decide.
Seem like a lot of work for 100hp
Evan Brown 143*
Don't always build to go fast
100 hp but easily will get 200,000 miles from that engine
@@bDub779 Yeah my 94 has 327,000 miles on original engine. She's getting tired, trying to decide if i should rebuild her.... she's such a slow turd but they're simple engines that last...
Horsepower means nothing to me. If I can get another 280K miles out of my 2.3 that means I will never have to buy another vehicle in my life.
did u get the head resurfaced?
Gear1993Head xxx i. Yes i did. I had the engine machined before i put it together
