Ghosts of Houston Street - Raye Zaragoza (Official Lyric Video)

I wrote this song in 2019, when I was missing home. I was missing the bodega across the street from my childhood apartment on Houston street that I would buy an ice cream from almost everyday after school. I was missing the Mom and Pop shops of the west village, that had all closed since I left New York, and had been replaced with chain coffeeshops and restaurants. In March of 2020, this song took on a whole new meaning. So many more of my favorite places had to close their doors due to Covid-19. In May 2020, my friend Hayley captured this footage and sent it to me. It’s been two years since the stay at home order, and this footage aches my heart and also fills it with admiration and pride for the resilience of New York City. My love goes out to all of the businesses that struggled due to Covid-19, the ones we lost and the ones that survived. I am so proud to have been raised on the best street in the world.
