Saw Bob Seeley in Minneapolis in 1992 at the Minneapolis Supper Club and it changed my life. He was an absolute machine. He was nice enough to respond to an e-mail I sent with a technical question on the Albert Ammons Boogie Stomp baseline. What a true gift to the idiom and ambassador
I am completely over the moon seeing this video! I’ve been completely obsessed with boogie-woogie piano since I was six years old and taking my very first piano lessons. It’s all I ever wanted to play. I’ve been searching far and wide for anyone who plays this music anymore and I have not been able to find anyone anywhere. And then I see this video of this famous man, who had had a most illustrious career playing the best music in the world… and realize he only lives a few miles from me! I PRAY he is still performing? I would give ANYTHING…
So incredibly honored to still hear Bob kick out the jams during family gathering at AMI. As soon as he sits on the bench he transforms into a 25 year old again and is just amazing. 😍
Bob, this is full of history of your high school days and the world when you were growing up. What a rich and detailed tribute you've provided us. So much context and history. The photo montage add so much detail of each era. A magnificent presentation. Thank you for bringing Boogie-Woogie back to life here in America.
This is so wonderful!! I am a paltry 67 years old, a full generation behind Bob, but I have steeped myself in the music and it's history. I know all the Giants mentioned and more. How I love hearing their music and improvisation on it. Thank you for your love and rendition of the era. Love you, Bob.
Bob became a close friend when we hosted him at the Tri-State Jazz Society. He would stay with me and i would drive him to Essex, CT for the Hot Steamed Jazz Fest where he and Jeff Barnhart mesmerized audiences. some years he and Shirley would arrive at my home in their RV and stay. Once In had him play an afternoon concert at the Community House of Moorestown (donated and founded by the founder of RCA Victor Records). Afterward I handed him some $100 bills and he looked surprised. He said that he thought he was repaying me for my support. He and Shirley were great people and friends. The late Bill Mears always went to Charlie's near Detroit to see Bob when he visited the auto Big Three for DuPont. Bill's memorial service in Wilmington was a concert by Bob, enjoyed by a full house at the Unitarian Church. Neville Dickie showed up and joined him in the last quarter part and then the two played at Old Pine Church in Philly together. Great MEMORIES. Thanks Bob and Shirley!!
I sold his brother Jim a car in Stockton, Ca . I see the resemblance. I see the intelligence, too. Nice guy. Smoked like a chimney as did I. Kids, don't smoke. Like my wrestling coach told me in college, "Those things will kill you! "
RIP what a talent Bob was!
Just wondering if Bob was still among us. When did he pass? What of, do you know?
