Palace of Sisi - Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary on the island of Corfu

Relaxing walk on The Achillion the palace which is placed in Corfu greece was built and named by Empress Elizabeth of Austria - Hungary, known as Sissy, at the suggestion of the Austrian Consul in Corfu. It was built on the site of mansion which belonged to prominent Corfiot, Petros Braila Armeni. Initially, the work of rebuilding the palace was assaigned to the elderly and aristocratic consul Warsberg. However after the consul's death, the plans where continued by the famous architect Theopihil Hansen, known for the exceptional neoclassical buildings The Academy of Athens and the National library of Greece. Eventually, the building was completed by Italian architects between 1889 and 1891.
