This song was written by Enoch Sontanga a South African composer. It was an official song that was sung after closing prayer at ANC meetings. And it part of South Africas National Anthem.

I am a UKZN kid and I am jealous to the deepest core of emotions. This is amazing. Stellenbosch (bow, I take off my hat). I'm just happy that other countries can see that we are not just about wild life and jungles, as we have been shown on the big screen by Hollywood for many years.
Unfortunately, it is not just African countries that are treated like this, South American countries, more specifically Brazil, are portrayed as being either a country of football or easy and Lots of jungle and more jungle.

Just a tip fellas. In South Africa we don't have the "th" sound as in "this" or "thatch". So whenever you see a "th" just pronounce it as a "t" as in "tea" or "truck". Lethabo is therefore pronounced leetaabo.

@Sinalo Lilitha Stop re-writing history. The ANC was a South African movement. The international students who came to study at Fort Hare in SA like Robert Mugabe adopted SA themes later on. In fact the ANC's original name was the SANNC: South African Native National Congress.

Since that time they have entrenched themselves in power to the effect that they see themselves and their political party as more important than the country and its people. ( see the recent statement by Zandile Gumede, the disgraced mayor of Ethekwini and also that of the ex-president, Jacob Zuma) The ANC has through state capture and its corruption, cronyism, nepotism and cadre deployment policies bankrupted the country to the detriment of especially the poor. Those in power also have flagrant disregard for the Constitution and the rule of law and have thereby alienated themselves from the populace who see them as nothing less than a criminal organisation who oppresses the masses through economical means.
That said, it shows how relevant our national anthem is and why it remains a symbol of struggle.

Our struggle song as black people in South Africa this song was sung during a hard time of apartheid in South Africa, but this is extremely beautiful to watch, black and white people coming together it’s awesome.

Title is wrong though. This is the old South African Atheas written by Enoch Sontonga. The African prayer back in the dark days of oppression in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa (mostly). A new national anthem has since been adopted that had the Nkosi Sikelela iAfrica verse, accompanied by a Sotho, Afrikaans and English verse

To explain, this isn't the version we sing as our country's national anthem-the original was written by Enoch and is the one we sing as a country. The one you guys reacted to is somewhat a modern resistance song (because it doesn't include English and Afrikaans) that is often sang by people who are singing for Africa to rise through its struggles-that God may bless Africa. This version often isn't sang in rejoice but in prayer for better.
