I've been a fan of Suspense ever since I was a kid listening to it every weekend in the late 50s/early 60s, and I've been a James Thurber fan for just about that long as well. I didn't hear this episode though and didn't know about it till today. Thurber's best known for funny fiction and humorous articles but in fact he wrote quite a few stories involving (or sometimes just implying) crime, death and sometimes murder - some of them funny, some sinister, all of them with those odd weird overtones of which he was such a master. He wrote enough of them to fill a book, and I've often wished someone would compile that book. I even thought of a title for it: Thurber in the First Degree.
“........and then....withhold the solution until the last possible moment.” I love the announcer’s bit before the story starts. Such great episodes! Thanks for sharing with us.
Air Date:08.03.1943 ( August 3, 1943) Plot:+ "A Friend To Alexander". A man has a recurring dream about the Hamilton-Burr duel. The story was produced on "Suspense" subsequently on June 15, 1944 and August 15, 1956. + Robert Young and Geraldine Fitzgerald star in this poignant and strange tale by James Thurber, an excerpt from the book My World and Welcome To It called A Friend To Alexander adapted for radio by Fraya Howard. www.oldtimeradiodownloads.com/thriller/suspense/friend-to-alexander-1943-08-03
Nope, he's the one who went crazy...and he died in his sleep. PS I don't remember whether his wife lost her mind in the end or not, I'll have to read the story again. It sounds like the kind of ending Suspense would add on, but in the original story she did say Burr never gave Harry a chance, so his nightmares did unhinge her at least a little.

Great one! Binge listening during pandemic June 2020!
I'm no veterinarian, but I feel pretty certain rhinos shouldn't eat popcorn

Who’d’a thunk insanity could be contagious? 🤪
This is a side of James Thurber I did not know. I guess I'll have to look up some others.
Gosh, im not done yet but legit, it's a DREAM, don't get all offended over a dream, bruuhhh
Is that Joseph Cotten as the announcer? I prefer the 2nd version of this story so I never really noticed before.
So what happened in the end? Did she killed her husband and gone crazy?
