I went to Detroit a month ago and the Tesla routed me south at exit 127 to avoid the construction on I 80, the traffic was at a stand still just beyond the exit ramp. Tesla planner said I would save 30 minutes taking that exit. On my way back to Iowa I followed Hwy 65 south to Hwy 30 and followed it west to where it connected to I 80 at New Lenox, IL. This bypassed the toll road and the headache going through Indiana and the main Chicago area. Also there is a supercharger on Hwy 30 just west of Hwy 65, I did not need to stop there and made it to Peru where I topped off to get home in Cedar Rapids, IA.

We skipped Illinois completely, by going from central Iowa to Milwaukee, WI and taking the ferry across Lake Michigan to Muskegon, MI. Plus, we got to experience a new type of transport. The ferry trip was great. And, the light show at Heritage Landing was fun to experience, too. (Although, it was well past my normal bedtime.)
Another great video Jim! Love watching your videos. Always helpful and without fluff. News you can use! I'll be in Iowa next weekend to see family myself. 1100 mile each way. A long but enjoyable round trip drive.

Bought my first one about 3 months ago and I am very happy with my purchase of a Model Y Long Range Stealth Gray with white seats. I live in Cedar Rapids, IA not far from the IowaTeslaGuy. Where may I ask do you live?

If you are considering Tesla, another option is the Camry Hybrid.
Camry has 630 mile range, and then 5 minutes to refill the tank.
Compared to Tesla, Camry has higher build quality, nicer interior, full dashboard, and a Turn Signal Stalk .
Random thing that I end up having to fight, I wish that map programs like Google or Apple maps would allow me to select particular roads. There's some days that I know for a fact the roads are going to be absolute hell and I'd just like to bypass them, but it refuses even with markers to just let me decide my own path early on and have it direct me. I get that their point is to get me to my destination as best as possible, but sometimes I'd like to plan a specific road along the trip and just say "do it".
Next time when headed on S side of Chicago see if Mokeena charger is better. It is .25 at peak time as of today. A little off the interstate but also cuts the corner this way.

14:39 I hope you took your wife to a better hotel than the inn I took myself to that Friday night before the meet-up. Drove up from Alabama Friday, rented a questionable room where I could get a shower before the show. Slept in Perl (2023 MY LR AWD) in the parking lot, instead of the room took a shower, checked out and spent the day at the meeting.After the light show, having no hotel business to transact, drove straight back to Alabama and was there before 1pm Sunday. I'd already decided I wasn't going to attend the Plaid Day festivities. Sorry I missed my opportunity to say hi and the show, maybe next year.

Good grief. This is not a road trip in a Tesla. I just went 2,000 miles with my dog. Used FSD the whole time. Same trip I have taken for 20 years in different vehicles. Since I still have to stop to pee with my dog, it took the same length of time as usual. 87 year old in my 2023 mylr.
How many Supercharger stops over 2000 miles? Maybe 10 stops, 30 minutes per stop?
A Camry Hybrid can drive across America with just 3 stops for gas, 5 minutes per stop.
@DerekDavis213 About 15-20 minutes per stop. But my dog and I have to pee. We stop about 4 more times than supercharger stops. Same stops I made in all my ICE cars. I'm a very healthy 87. If you drive as far as you can on a tank of gas you're not going to be. But you do you.
@@robertrichardson6904 Many Superchargers in America have lines, people must wait their turn. You cannot charge your car and be done there, in 15 minutes. No way.
The Camry owner stops many times for food, drink, or bathroom. But he never has to worry about charging, moving his car from the charger to avoid upsetting other people that are waiting. Nothing like that.
With Camry, it's easy living.

@@flyhighone Camry is better than Tesla in almost every way, and Camry is cheaper too. Toyota doesn't use customers as *unpaid* beta testers.
