Specifically with family friends in Yerushalayim/Al Quds. I think I might know these two fine people through around 1-2 degrees of separation
Tal and Ella deserve all the praise for speaking out amidst such heavy propaganda and nationalism. I feel scared to even talk to my extended family about this. They are very courageous and are continuing the tradition of refuseniks!

It's not anti-semitic to oppose colonisation, of which Ireland has along and painful experience! I recommend Blindboy Boatclub's podcast for more context on this. The great grandfather of the current Israeli president was born in Dublin, and also the British colonial policies for the subjugation of the native arabs were taken directly from the British colonial policies in Ireland of that man's era. There are selfless people out there who put humanity above selfish interests, but settlers showing solidarity and genuinely having an interest in sacrificing their privilege for the greater good are few and far between. This is a very good and interesting interview.
As and Israeli teen, my experience is very similar to those teens.
Since i was a kid serving in the military was never a question, it was known: "you finish school, you serve in the IDF for 2-3 years, and then you can finally leave the country."
I never wanted to serve, but i knew i probably wont qualify to not serve.
But now i am older, my brother has served (in the army orchestra) and told me a lot about
his experience there, and i hated every part of it. Being controlled, having little to no control over you're life for 2-3 year is like: you're finally an adult! but we will decide what you do next and you cant leave the country...
But i knew that National Service exists (Basically it's different things that you can do to serve the country in other ways, mostly not connected to the IDF.) and for me as a very kind person i knew it would be the best for me. I love helping people, no matter where, who or why.
Now i have 2 years left in school, and i hope i will get good grads, and be able to qualify for "skipping" military. I am already looking into place where i can volunteer for my serves, i found a cool animal shelter and some kindergarten's that need help!
If your still reading this, thank you! And remember many Israeli kids want peace, we don't want to be scared to grow up, or go outside, but we get silenced by the government.
Not all of us are the same, everyone is different, i hope by this i let people see a different side of Israeli's.🕊

I ask this because my first debate on this occupation was in the 11th grade History class in 1976. I came armed with facts, dates, timelines, all backed up with books and articles that were banned in the usa. My challenger said ‘We are the chosen people by G-d and have a right to the land. It was probably the first time I publicly ‘side eyed’ most dramatically.

They’re badass for this. I’m proud of them like they’re my own kids. ❤
My Austrian great-grandparents and grandparents also stood against Hitler during the war. My great-grandmother was actually awarded a medal of bravery for saving the lives of many people because of her ability to speak several European languages which allowed her to communicate and negotiate with officers. The town this particular instance took place in honoured her every year until she died.
She raised her two daughters alone during that war (her first husband was killed while she was pregnant with her second daughter, my Omi). She fled with them, stood with them, protected them and anyone else she could.
My grandmother refuses to let that be for nothing. She welcomes and loves all people as if they are her family. It makes her sick to see what’s happening in the world still to this day, as if we have learned nothing.
