Well you just killed my idea of running a mini split off a bus alternator. Id have to add a 2nd alternator so ill just run the diesal generator. Thanks for the video.

Please make more content with the 10 hp 418cc diesel. Im interested in buying one myself to do a badass mini bike build I wanna see how someone more experienced dose before I try

    Wild - my 30K BTU AC pulls ~1800W @240vAC

That would more than double if the voltage was cut in half (120V)!
My modified rooftop unit runs around 1400watts on 120v it's a 13.5 unit. And it kills batteries quickly.

Nope! Watts is watts, no matter the voltage.

@@CubbyTechactually if the voltage drops the amperage does increase and to find the wattage the formula is volts X amps = wattage and when any of them change they all change . None of them are a constant and all change as vairy as the load changes.

Not sure if I got a bad one or not but it would not start my side by side fridge...

Well I bet it has to do with the surge of the compressor motor, I’d try a larger unit or use a low frequency inverter, they can handle surge rating way better. The cheaper inverters generally don’t have good surge capacity

The easiest/best way to get solar power to ac is to use something like toshiba dual hose inverter portable ac.
The thing is you can run them at much higher efficiency on low, using fans and ac science to get a cop of 6 roughly or 6 times heat transferred out as opposed to put in.
They can run as low as 300w efficiently and effectively, they run the compressor slow and move lots of air to get maximum cooling efficiency.
Just like most mini split solar setups.
Except they are 5-10 times easier to install, portable, modular, and mildly less efficiency but still very efficient.
2 toshiba units can keep an entire big house cool in very hot summers and poor house insulation situations.
1 can do a 2 bedroom house very easily.
Mini splits are a hit and miss, i think are less reliable when you go that cheap (400) and are not as efficient too when you go that cheap.
Also the ge through window low profile inverter ac units are as good as the mini split or better imo.
They are quiet and efficient, more efficient than portable ac units.
They will do great on solar too about as good or better than mini split of any type except for direct dc mini split.

Is that mini split only 9k btu? That current draw is very high for 9k btu

    • @Mikebuildss
      @Mikebuildss 28 днів тому

Yes it’s 9k, but the SEER rating isn’t great because it’s a cheaper unit, more expensive units will be more energy efficient and use less power for a given amount of cooling

@@Mikebuildss maybe the power factor is very poor you should scroll through your meter and see how much below 1 it shows.

Yeah my modified rooftop on my RV runs in the 1400watt range on high about 1200watts on the lower setting. But on a 12 volt system you don't get much run time but it will run long enough to make comfortable for a short time.
