I was working at Greyhound in New Westminister in 1996 and I was covering the ticket booth for someone on break. While there, Bindy came up and asked me when a bus was going to arrive.

Vancouver from outside looks like a perfect little city however most addicts reside in this city and a lot of fraud related (telemarketing scams) crimes also come from Vancouver.
The history of Vancouver is corruption and crime - it is not hidden. This is not a nice a place if you are looking behind the curtain.
It’s a HUGE city with terrible traffic and it’s way too expensive to live in now.
This is true, but you missed is that most the telemarketing employees are the those same addicts.
Drugs addict are and aways have been historically the best salesmen over the phone, especially in telesales, appointment making, fundrasing,etc.
They all seem to have a natural instinct to have an answer for everything, be able to persuade and negotiate and be able to shake people down for money. Telling you experience....
The VPD used to have the mind frame of “let all the gangsters kill each other off and we won’t pay attention to it” but when bindy entered the scene the VPD had to change their tactics because the violence was happening in public spaces with innocent bystanders around. Only then did the vpd really go after the gangs. If they had just kept things behind closed doors they could have kept their business going much easier without law enforcement on their asses at every move. They can’t even eat in a restaurant to this day without the vpd being called to stand right beside their table as they eat.

This shows how in our society , we need positive mentors and counselors at the right age and time, imagine if he would have been assigned to a good person rather than sending him behind bars, this story could have been much different.
And the saddest part is his parents. They must have never immigrated for him to become this. System failed as drugs are common in high school and sending behind bars didn’t bring any good.

I lived in Vancouver throughout the 90’s, and worked in the scene. Bindy was a Tyrant. Unbearable. We all new it was going to happen one day. We all prayed it didn’t happen on our shift, in our club. He would punch people for no reason, and bouncers couldn’t do anything about it. I once saw him throw a glass at a waitress who told him she couldn’t serve anymore because last call was over. He was a real d-bag who honestly got what he deserved. The entire city exhaled when we heard he was dead. Vancouver in the 90’s was crazy. First, The Russian Boys (a gang of 7 Russian brothers that ripped off the Triads and HA in a huge drug deal) who all got assassinated one by one over a 4 year period. Then the Dosanjh brothers. Then Johal and his psychotic run. It was 10 years of the film Goodfellas, everyday. Glad I’m out.

Bindi Johal was born as Bhupinder Singh Takhar in village Shankar, Tehsil Nakodar, Distt Jalandhar, Punjab. He was adopted by his aunt & her husband who were living in Jandiala Manjaki town. That’s how Bindi had the surname Johal. They migrated to Canada when Bindi was 3 years old. I also belong to village Shankar. So I know the history.
