- Matthew Amatulli likes to sew, but he isn’t hemming pants or sewing quilts. He’s making sure Old Glory flies in perfect condition. The 16-year-old, who is autistic, was taught to sew by his grandmother when he was around 7. His mother, Angela, says Matthew’s love for flags started around 3, and now he dedicates his sewing skills to repairing torn or tattered American flags. Matthew’s flags are flying all around West Palm Beach, Florida. #InsideEdition
He should contact VFW’s , Military Bases, Museums, places like that to see if they will hire him to restore them and maybe some other things like old uniforms.
Or just anything he like. Flags of Norway, Puerto Rico, working at a tailors...or anything that is conducive to autism.
@California Cobra - but if the old flags can be used to repair old flags it would mean less burning and the kid gets the material/parts he needs.
To me it’s a win/win.
He gets his material and they get the satisfaction that old glory flys again.

I agree its nice that he has a hobby that he enjoys but I don't understand why people have qualms with burning the American flag. The flag means a lot of different things to different people and burning the flag is the proper way of getting rid of it (according to the flag codes). No hate, just my opinion.

I’m on the autism spectrum, and the stigma around hiring people with special needs is still so blatant that people don’t know how much more we can offer to the community. It’s really heartbreaking to the autism community. I’m so happy that the boy found his calling, and can turn his hobby into his career. He’s a great example of how us autistics can be great assets to the community.

I'm on the spectrum too, I'm so glad that this was made, and I'm so glad that this wonderful young man serves his community like this. I have a few obsessions too, two of them being cruise ships and hand dryers. With the latter one, I hope to learn how to repair hand dryers so I can do something similar to what he's doing for businesses. I've seen a boy do that with vacuum cleaners, so I don't see why I can't do it for hand dryers.
What an amazing guy. I love seeing individuals with Autism using their passion to make the world a better place.

This reminds me when my mom told me about her grandmother being a park ranger and she was responsible for putting up the flag everyday and putting it away every night. She kept it somewhere special and safe where it was basically NEVER ruined, and even in rain the lady would take care of those flags
