This show made me realize a lot of things like my underlying mental disorders that I was trying to hide for some reason. Mental health is important. This show showed the good and the bad of everything, the healthy and the unhealthy relationships and dealing with emotions and said relationships. Don’t bottle up problems and emotions and hide them from people, especially those who want to help you.
Being a person who has struggled with, and is still struggling with depression and anxiety, she's definitely at the point where you think "Is this really an option for me?" "Can I have something good?" "Won't I get hurt again?" This show is great at hitting those points.
Yeah I agree, I've had bad spouts of imposter syndrome now that things are better for me. Its very real and very hard to explain to people who haven't felt it.
As a fellow person with depression and anxiety, I agree wholeheartedly. Lapis is one of my favorite characters in the shoe because I can relate to her a lot more than any other character besides maybe Amethyst.
The character gets a whole lot emotionally better. She moves in with and is in an aromatic couple with Peridot (the angry green Dorito), gets a dog (actually a sentient pumpkin bought to life by magic spit) and starts doing abstract sculpture. She recovers really well.
Her life story in short: severe depression and PTSD: Forced by her superiors to get to an unknown planet, getting caught up in the rebellion wars there, getting mistaken by her own people for an enemy and imprisoned, getting forgotten when they fled the planet, found by the rebels and used for centuries as a mere tool... finally getting freed, just to get dragged back to the same planet again by her superiors, getting imprisoned by them, getting basically raped, used and imprisoned AGAIN by one of them. Finally snaps and imprisons that very person by sealing away herself with them and then finally is free after that one got killed. So basically she got imprisoned and used as a tool by both sides of the war. So her primary modus operandi for most of the show is: "i want to have these guys as friends, BUT I WILL NEVER GET IMPRISONED AGAIN!" She needs the majority of 4 of the 5 seasons of the show to sloooooooowly get better. In the context of the song she fled Earth to not get imprisoned (she fears Homeworld will attack Earth soon), but hides on the Moon because she can't get herself to completely leave and spies from there via a device, so she can be at least in mind with her new friends. So she is extremely lonely, but too much in fear to return to earth.

Jasper looked at Lapis, told her to fuse with her. Lapis had no reason to do so, though. She could have sided with the Gems, and it would have become a 5 vs 1 that Jasper had already lost. Instead, Lapis chose to fuse with her... Then dragged her to the bottom of the ocean and imprisoned both of them. Lapis actively chose to imprison someone else for a change. The worst part to me about people claiming Lapis was the victim here is the fact that Lapis actively and openly admits that she's the one who did that to Jasper, not the other way around. Everything else is true, and she does have extreme depression and PTSD. But she reacted badly and purposefully inflicted similar pain onto someone else and KNOWS that she did so.

I just.... David.. I was ready for only your reaction to this beautiful song. Then you go and interpret it in a way I haven't and nail it on the head. I felt how it hit my chest when you described how it was to look at someone you care about and they can't accept it's going well so they self sabotage. I never thought I would well up and let a tear drop so fast. The enormus guilt I suddenly felt for having put my friends through that. And yet I can't... Describe it. You moved something in me. I wasn't ready for it, but I don't think it's a thing you can be ready for.

This song was a pretty accurate representation of how I felt after I moved. I’ve always dealt with depression and feeling out of place and when I finally felt at home and safe in 6th grade I was forced to move. I became resentful and angry and felt like I was being replaced, I was forced to watch my friends move on and be happy when I was still stuck and couldn’t be happy again for years
If I were suggest another song- it would def be tower of mistakes from the episode cry for help. It’s a short song- but it’s sad and I luv it, also another song is Escapism from the episode literally called Escapism, it’s amazing

For some reason, this show affected me so heavily in ways that I can’t describe. It’s Over Isn’t It and That Distant Shore are two songs that have so heavily related to me and affected me in the worst ways possible, but yet they are nostalgic and comforting because I used to watch this show as a kid and remember humming these all day… it’s an awful relationship.
This song has always hit really hard for me because it greatly reminds me of my own struggles, but I still love the song because lapis gets a happy ending and maybe I could have one too...
She does get a happier life. She’s still working through her trauma by the end of the show, movie, and short sequel. But she’s happier and better ❤️❤️❤️

'Happily Ever After' from the movie is a great track. Though a bit spoiler heavy, it is one of my favourite tracks from the series and is a great display of how they have changed (change playing a huge part in the movie, as well as the show as a whole.) Keep up the good work, Dave. Though musicians reacting isn't exactly a new concept on the platform, I think you bring a really different vibe to the genre. A lot of these channels can kind of feel bland and even overproduced at times, and having that more relatable, genuine person sitting behind the camera can really hit home for a lot of people and I think makes your content that much more enjoyable. As I already said, keep up the good work, and keep it comin'.
If you like Lapis' singing voice, I would totally recommend the song "why so blue" It's definitely more upbeat than this song and it's one of my favorite songs from the series.
