Great performance! I think the year was 1954 - I believe a March of Dimes film.
Great, love the 3 of them, too bad we cannot hear Gene too much
Love!
The bass drum is audible!
Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw are the best clarinet players in the history of jazz....
Hum...rather the best known and the most commercial because at that time they had the good color skin for... but the greatest were Johnny Dodds, Jimmie Noone, Barney Bigard, Buster Bailey, Albert Nicholas and Sidney Bechet....
@@SELMER1947 Benny said it took the black and white keys to make the best harmony.
charles miller I totally disagree with you man!! They were among the best but not the best.
I’m always amused when someone claims ‘this person or that person is THE BEST’. How about ‘among’ the best?
How much of the opinion is subjective? Likely all of it.
Is it because you prefer the music played by one musician more than another? When someone claims ‘this person was the best’, I like to ask if the claimant plays the instrument in question. And if you don’t play the clarinet, for instance, how is it possible for you to make the statement? For instance, I don’t play piano. I wouldn’t opine that Teddy Wilson is ‘better’ than Oscar Peterson. I have no point of reference on the piano.
Goodman was amazing, as was Artie Shaw. But so was Pete Fountain, so is Ken Peplowski.
And I do play clarinet, which perhaps gives me slightly more of an educated opinion than the next person. Or maybe not at all.
the drummer may aswell of not bothered
Thank you so much for this historic gem.
