    What a crazy question, but I do it all the time Practicing without my violin especially when I am ill or suffer from pain. I read Notes, clap Rhytm, think about Change of positions, bowing. I learn to sing the melody to memorize it better, move my Fingers and train Independence. I sing doremifasolasido 😂 and Intervals. Most important I do UA-cam Research to find clever Guys Like you to be inspired and motivated. Thank you so much for this amazing Video 🤗💕🫶

    Dear Kennedy Violins Team,
    I hope this message finds you well. I’ve been following your content for a while now and have found it incredibly helpful in my violin learning journey. I was wondering if you could consider making a video focused on finger exercises and practicing different positions (like 2nd, 3rd, 5th, etc.) without the violin.
    This would be particularly useful for times when we don’t have access to our instruments but still want to keep our fingers conditioned and familiar with the positions.
    Thank you for all the great work you do for the violin community. I look forward to your response and hopefully seeing this video on your channel soon!
    Best regards,
    Arunkumar A C

      Ya, that's a good idea. I'll add that to the list and ponder it. Coincidentally, I recorded a video yesterday about the importance of doing etudes that focus on different positions, because being more comfortable in various positions, opens up many more options for your playing. Thanks!

    hi I started learning to play the violin recently and ive noticed that when I try to play higher notes ,on the E string especially, it make a scratchy noise. ive tried playing around with pressure and even cleaning the string but none of that worked. What may be causing this sound and what can I do to prevent it?

    • @KennedyViolins
      @KennedyViolins  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes, this is very common and it's one of the things that makes playing the violin difficult. The shorter your string length is, the more difficult it will be to create a pure pitch. The e string in particular is harder than all the other strings and if you're shortening the string length by placing your fingers above first position, this will only make it more difficult. As a general rule, you have to make sure that you use less bow pressure to prevent a screechy sound. You also want to make sure that your bow is in the middle of the fingerboard and bridge for the most part. Definitely stay away from being too close to the fingerboard or too close to the bridge. Either one of these directions will cause your sound to be bad. So in the end, it really is a matter of you maintaining the proper bow speed, the proper weight, and making sure your bow is straight and contacting the right area in between the fingerboard and bridge. I would practice long slow bow strokes, to get better at it. Good luck!

      @@KennedyViolins thank youuu it sounds better. Someone else suggested to get a better rosin the one I had left too much residue on the strings. Thanks again I was getting a bit frustrated 😭

      Ya, too much rosin contributes to scratcy sound as well. Good luck! @@daniellannadi9881

    What can I do for practice before I get a Violin though? And when I have pretty much never touched a Violin. Maybe I could sight read the Suzuki books or something and learn the notes on the Piano...

      @@TheUnofficialGamerx yeah that's a good question. I suppose one of the best things that you can do is watch a video similar to some of the videos that I've put together that talk about the mistakes that beginner violinists make when they first start. If you're aware of them, then that should help you get off on the right foot. In terms of the Suzuki books, I would flip through at least the first book and acclimate yourself to all of the songs. You can easily go to UA-cam probably and hear all the songs, so you have them in your head and you could even play through them so you are aware of all the notes. This familiarity will make it significantly more easy for you too learn the songs. I would also invest in a very basic scale book. The most difficult thing for you at first will probably be trying to figure out where to put your fingers on the violin. As a pianist, you're used to "pushing buttons", which is obviously completely different than the violin. If you learn basic scales before you attempt a lot of Suzuki, this will make it a lot easier for you to put your fingers down in the right place. 👍

      @KennedyViolins Thank you, tons! That's great advice. Are you saying I should probably buy a violin scales book? Also, we have a guitar at home, I know violins don't have frets, but would guitar practice help? Also, happy late 4th of July.

      Lol! Yeah, happy 4th to you. Yes, the best way to train yourself to know where to put your fingers, is with scales. So, after you learn the basics of how to hold the violin and how to hold the bow, then you need to practice open strings and then scales. I believe I have a video on basic scales that you can check out as well. Once you play a few simple scales like a G major D major and A major, one octave, then you'll have a pretty decent idea of where to put your fingers. This will make learning book 1 a lot easier. 👍. Of course, playing scales on guitar is always good ear training as well.
