Performances such as these bring to mind Neuhaus' description of Richter as "an eagle who from his great height can see as far as the horizon and yet single out the tiniest detail of the landscape." Insurmountable!
Pur empfundene Musik, die man in dieser Aufnahme körperlich spüren kann! Ich hatte das Glück, S. Richter in der Zeit zwischen 1972 und 1985 mehrmals live in Deutschland zu hören.
@@marksmith3947 I know, but unfortunately the plague of tasteless individuals in the classical music world who listen to and deify Beethoven as if he were a great composer is truly boundless Of course I am joking, but still I do not understand how you can tolerate such disorganic abominations without the slightest sense of structure and operatic integration which are beyond essential in music. In my mind it should be quite trivial to listen to a Mozart piece, just to name one, and then not even have the strength left to move on to something written by Beethoven without getting pissed off realizing all that is missing from the proper construction of a great composition. There are some great flashes of intuition here and there, but ultimately a complete lack of vision and unification; and that is not music, because it is not com-position
The gentle chromatic join before the concluding subject is so beautifully. That upper B key is tuned flat: it’s very easy to do that and have it exposed in the Liszt B minor; you would
I don't agree with you but I grant that this performance is fully of ugly pounding. Cziffra played it much better, as did the young Horowitz - - of course

Richter and Liszt. Two immortals, in my mind. I am grateful
This is one of great achievement of Richter's art of piano performance.
An entire human lifetime in 29 minutes. Speechless.
Richter at his very best, Wonderful.
The finest reading I have ever heard!
Vous avez tous la critique facile et l'art difficile C'est un génie absolu Toute critique injustifiée est un compliment indirect Merci pour lui
Breathtaking
Thank you so much! A royal gift! I ha’ve been waiting for this List ‘s sonata for a long time! Amazing! Brilliant!
I am happy that I am not alone!

Und wie war es?
Richter’s left hand is so strong; not the poor relative that it is with many; Liszt would have loved that!
Unsurpassed!
Thanks Alexandre!
Yeah, unsurpassed coughing and sniffing.
quelle merveille!
And the rest? Fantastic; right up there with Cziffra!
The Liszt sonata and the Beethoven Hammerklavier are perfect vehicles for Richter’s kaleidoscopic breadth.
Let's not compare this absolute masterwork to Beethoven's sloppy puppet show, please
@@michelangelomarchetti9119 I didn't realize there were people with some education about music yet were utterly without taste

@@michelangelomarchetti9119 Amazing rant. Do you have a similar rant about Petrarca vs Dante? And do you care about Liszt's opinion about Beethoven?

Yes indeed!
Erstaunlich! Careening between the celestial and the demonic.... and what angels.... and what demons! Like falling into the pit of Hell itself.
many mistakes but still, divine performance
With Richter even the Mistakes are impressive.

The opening G’s are too long and too calm. Surprising from Richter

Not the best of Richter is capable of
In my opinion, Richter gives a better less splashy live account at Aldeburgh at around about the same time of his extraordinary career
Richter has two speeds.....slow/soft....fast/hammer pounding.
You are being disrespectful to the memory of one of the very greatest pianists the world has ever known.
lol
That is what makes him great is not?
