To do what, to get beat down in the first round like last year? Campbell is not exactly the cream of the crop in FCS football and Central did not look good in the other out of conference games when they played non HBCUs. The other thing is having VUL on the schedule does nothing for Central strength of schedule. I think the team will be even better next year with Walker at the QB position, as he is learning and improving, and hopefully Central will win all of their out of conference games and regular season games next year leading to undefeated season. The Celebration Bowl contract is coming up for renewal soon, so it will be interesting if an out clause is put in for the MEAC Champion to decide, without penalty, if they want to go to the Celebration Bowl or FCS Playoffs. To me the best of both worlds would be for the SWAC and MEAC to do a schedule alliance in football, which then turns the Celebration Bowl into schedule alliance championship game and then the schedule alliance would have their auto bid establish for the FCS playoffs. The problem with that scenario is it would require that the Celebration Bowl would have to happen sooner and thus 2 SWAC classics would have to be moved up (which is not likely to happen). I think the only hope to have the best Central team in the FCS playoffs or any MEAC school, some body or group is going to have to put up the money to fund their run into the playoffs and make it more financially better than the Celebration Bowl. Any MEAC school that opts out of the Celebration Bowl will catch hell from a certain segment of fans, just like A&T did when they went into the playoffs over the Celebration Bowl.
Walker has improved since the beginning of the season and I believe Central has a shot at winning the rest of their games. I hope they don't stumble like last year and lose one of their conference games , which cost them going to the Celebration Bowl. My prediction is that Walker will not play the second half against VUL, as it looks like Central will blow them out in the first half if Walker is starting just like last year, when Walker got his first start.
