      I just played today. I spawned at The Hub, and it looked destroyed as fuck. Some goats were roaming around, and starving bandits attacked them. They got downed. I looted them all, then first aided the leader. I then healed and ran after + beat the shit out of the leader of and over, healing him on a bed.

    19:56 Pro tip: If you don't want to continuously be clicking in the screen to move your character, wait for an ally patrol, then hold right mouse button on one of them and select "Follow"; your character will forever follow the ally patrol automatically and also you'll count with their protection if someone dares to attack.
    You can even study, eat, watch UA-cam or some film while your character is building up his/her strength :D

      Thank you, I hadn't thought of doing that! It's a great idea. This is another thing that makes me think that when you're playing as just a single character, Kenshi almost feels like a single-player MMO. A "follow" feature is pretty standard in most MMOs, and I've used this trick before in online games to keep my character safe (or help them travel) while I had to go AFK. Gotta love patrolling NPCs.

    I know its boring, but I've always used the "mine a node" option for making cash early. First thing I always bought that isn't food... a backpack. Another thing I've found is that its pretty easy to train levels of stealth initially. I just had my group go into stealth and had them tail a hostile group, staying as close as I could but still keeping the "eyeball" symbol blue (meaning not detected). I went from 1 to 35 in about 15 to 20 minutes.

      Fog Islands is a decent place to go early for training your dudes. Fogmen aren't very fast and you can run to Mongrel to get groups of Fogmen off of you. Additionally, they're just losers with iron sticks so they have no real risk of wounding you so bad that you can't get away. Sneaking around in the Deathyards makes your Stealth skill skyrocket. I am also able to pull only one or two Fogmen at a time, and then when they turn around I sneak back up and get ridiculous amounts of Assassination XP by sneak attacking them. I think kidnapping them also attracts Fogmen, because I was able to make a giant group attack Mongrel that way -- might have been a coincidence. And on top of all that, sometimes Fog Princes show up and die to the ninja guards, whose heads are worth 6,000 Cats flat.
      If you manage to rack up 10,000 Cats, you can join the Shinobi Thieves guild, which gives you free beds in a lot of towns, a good vendor that fences and training facilities.

    That first pull was crazy. I started as a slave of the Holy Nation and my defensive stats leveled really quick. Of course you have to be careful of dismemberment with those 50 str paladins attacking you. The bonus is as a slave hunger doesn't drop past 114 and you get free first aid.

    • @TobelPlays
      @TobelPlays  6 років тому +6

      Recovering is half the battle sometimes, so yeah free first aid and a place to recover would be nice. I don't think I've seen Holy Paladins dismember in one shot before. You could even do the advanced options and re-import the game to lower overall damage. That should reduce the chance of losing limbs.

    • @aFewBitsShort
      @aFewBitsShort 6 років тому +1

      I set dismemberment to off and death to low for my first game. I may alter things later.
      So to import you start a new game then import your characters? Do you need to export your squad first?

    • @elandthirkhaoth4718
      @elandthirkhaoth4718 6 років тому

      With importing, you basically can reset the world without resetting your character/squad unless you select 'reset squad positions'. You can choose to delete buildings you made/outposts you made, or basically reviving npc's you've killed off. It also respawns all items in the world, including items sold at vendors even if you bought them, and often fixes bugs that occur to cause you to not be able to do something.

      @aFewBitsShort 5 років тому +3

      On a micro level the combat is fun. Especially trying to escape as a slave. However on a macro level a lot of the sandbox features were scrapped or patched up with hardcoded scripts instead of allowing freedom and emergent gameplay.

    Thank you, this video really helped me. I've been trying to wrap my head around Kenshi, I had no idea how to get going. A Kenshi solo start seems to mechanically have a lot in common with getting started in some oldschool MMOs, like OSRS or EQ -- which, as you identified, many find tedious, but anyone who's ever done a bit of grinding before in an old MMO will likely be able to tolerate it, or even embrace it (in controlled doses, of course). There's a lot going on around you at all times, which keeps things from being too stale. it's awesome how big and vast the game is in a single-player context. It feels alive!

  • @Kanakotka
    @Kanakotka 5 років тому +25

    I have a better suggestion for strength training than running around encumbered, but it needs a few boxes ticked:
    You must have a base with walls and gates.
    You must have a good supply of medical equipment, preferrably from your own farm.
    You must not be too close to bonedoggos or other scavengers.
    At the spot where you have 5 or 6 people, you would in most cases have boxes 1 and 2 ticked, the third one is not an absolute must, but it's definitely a strong suggestion. If you have corpses laying about and don't have a scavenger infestation, then you're set.
    Now, you must build an enclosure, similar to what you would build for your animals. However, this one is for prisoners.
    You beat up or "kidnap" offending figures that are either trying to raid you or a nearby settlement, nurse them back to health once they have been carried to your enclosure (this is a great way to train first aid skill as a bonus!), and then leave the offendees laying around without their weapons behind locked gates, preferrably with their armor on, or even better, armor that you supply them with.
    The bonus for this? If you're in the middle desert, you get attacked so often you don't even need to think about feeding them.
    Now, once your cattle starts waking up, you waltz a few people who want to train their fighting in there, preferrably with poor weapons (you don't want to lob off limbs here, this is strength training) or none at all inside the enclosure, and make sure not one leaves until they've all been downed. Heal them up again, give them a couple of days to recover, rinse and repeat until they starve. You can refresh said stock with raids once you get better at it, and perhaps start sneaking in clubs to your would-be gladiators.
    The best part about this is that you can reward your most succesful inmates once you get toward unlocking cages, which gives them a chance to convert.

    Copper is better for making money, and iron is better for weighing you down for strength training (just run around while very overencumbered).
    I recommend to first mine some copper to sell until you have enough to get a backpack, then from there do either copper or iron as needed for weight training/money. Another benefit of the backpack is that sometimes early game you luck out and some roaming pack of animals gets shredded by npcs (or vice versa), in which case you can scoop up all the meat (or loot), and be set for awhile.
    Bonus tip. Press "B" to bring up a placement menu that allows you to place down a campfire if you have raw meat, as you can cook on one of those if you don't have a stove handy.

  • @Shimmiy
    @Shimmiy 5 років тому +4

    a few things, you want to mien copper as its much mroe valuable and you dont want to turn block on early as its going to gimp your attack gain early and its much easier to train block later when you have really good armor and weapons and can just tank weak ass bandits for power leveling

    a thing i did with slave start was to corner another slave and stand straight next to him to catch him to start fighting. If you can box him in well you can train as a slave and then you pray when your hit by the slavers you don,t die. But they will patch you up as slaves. You can't starve currently but malnourished and you can just train some fighting and sneak (hide amongs 15 slaves at night rises it crazily) and lockpicking there. For the great escape. Heck if you incredibly lucky you may be able to steal some food and swords before running away. But usualy not worth the risk of getting the weapons.

    The best spot I found for early loot gathering is Okrun's Shield. There are usually patrols of Cloud Ninjas with great gear (2x swords worth 1000+ a piece), Broken Skeletons with great 2h weapons and Iron Spiders with valuable items.
    To top it all off, it's got plenty of HN guards that also die in droves, allowing you to loot them as well.
    The only bad thing about this area is the long(ish) trek to any shops other than the 1 medical shop in town.

    Did they put in an option to spar with the people in your party? Cuz that's what they would do in real life to get better. The training dummies only get you started out in the beginning until your level 15 or something like that. They should make wooden swords for you to buy to train in a non lethal way with your company.

      Would be nice and also make sense, wouldn't it? There are some decent mods that add training dummies with no upper limit on skill. Also a wooden sword mod to beat up on enemies with.

      what i do is i build a fenced yard in between stack and hive to the south (swamp) and i look for opportunity to kidnap and heal somebody, i keep them locked up there with a sleeping bag, i have a camp a few hundred meters away with a food trough that we live outdoor at, with our "base" about 1km away and the camp is close to town guards. so we go out and we train our monk unarmed at the cage on the prisoner with also swordsman training to block and also stealth KO. the raiders show up to our base instead of our camp and we use our fastest member to kite one back to the camp and then we lock him up in the yard to train on him.

      It kind of makes sense though, because if none of your guys know anything about swordsmanship there's nothing you're going to learn from each other just by striking one another with wooden swords. Though I guess along those lines you should be able to do that but only learn up to the level of the best party member.

    • @Akranejames
      @Akranejames 5 років тому +1

      @@Sublimnalxx Nah, even then you should slowly get better.
      Sure, it's no professionnal level of technique, but having to develop your skills to counter whatever your friend can throw at you is valuable experience and should improve your skills with time, as each "breakthrough" in technique developped to beat the other could benefit both by learning it and also to counter it.
      After all, a competitive seance of sparing prepares you for the events of battle even if it does not for the stress of it. There is very little difference between sparing and battle that doesn't come down to there being more risk and more chaos.

Then at night I rob any kind of clothing store because shirts and armor is worth loads of money. Then in the morning I run our of the city and I go south to a Shek city and sell off all of the goods because they are part of a different faction and don't care. After I sell the goods I have about 10,000 cats so I have enough to join Shinobi Theives. But first I rob the Shek city. I run to the hub join the ST then I run to the HN city and sell the Shek goods, and repeat.

      Once you pass a certain threshold where you learn how you might be able to survive and the massive possibilities that the game gives you you'll likely be hooked like everyone else.
      It's a very unique game and up to this date, only the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Chernobyl mod managed to get me immersed to such an insane degree.
      It's one if those very rare games that managed to get me on a 12 hour binge the first time I played.
      The game is all about it's game world, it's own laws and lore and most importantly it is about creating your own story within it.
      Even if you merely manage to die while escaping the slavery you've got yourself into 10 minutes into your very fist session.

      sadly as far as I know stuff like that is not possible, nor can you take over city/towns and or give them to other factions...… I bought in prerelease thinking development would go on, like 3 weeks after I purchased they released statement saying it was going live in a couple weeks.... wasn't happy for sure... this game could have been final fantasy 7 epic and totally dropped the ball... no riding mounts, no vehicles or flying ones. no really cool sci fi weapons, or weapons in general... no claiming enemy towns.. trade system broken.. player towns shops broken..... goes on and on lol... but with that said I do have 1100 + hours a game time with mods.....the mods really make this game shine more and it does have replayability if you really like rpg elements with top down gameplay.

    Never start building a outpost unless your chars are heavily trained and geared, even making a small shack will get you heavy bandit parties in most areas, kenshi has no way of scaling attacks on your town so you might face several armies with a shack. i recommend buying a building, either longhouse or a svamphouse, the round ones that cost 80-100k are the best you can buy in towns in my experience. Once you have a trade empire and can make decent profit along with building materials and iron plates then you can start a outpost, i recommend having atleast 10 geared companions.
    Early on the best way of getting rid of bandits is by paying them off with 2000 every so often, its expencive but better than risking your characters early on.
