Thank you so much to The Patient Story for allowing me to share my story and for all of your kind comments. Just a quick update: I had my surgery on September 6th, it went very well! I actually got to keep my spleen as the fluid build up around it presented with no malignancy and all of the visible cancer was removed from my body. Pathology also showed that there was no spread into my lymph nodes. I have one more round of chemotherapy left in November and maintenance therapy following. Hopeful to be in full remission when I complete treatment and it's all said and done!
My sister had a granulosa cell ovarian tumor diagnosis at age 26 when she was pregnant with my identical twin nieces. The tumor was bigger than my nieces combined weight. She had emergency surgery and my nieces were born 3 months early each weighing 2 lbs. 3 oz. My sister turned 57 this month and my nieces turned 30 years old in June and follow in their mamas footsteps as nurses. Keep the faith 🙏 I wish you health, healing and many many more years with your beautiful family.
I’m thankful for what you said, we are prepared for the road to be difficult, but we are not just statistics. I’m not just the 1 in 8, I am a Breast Cancer survivor and it has been 16 years since diagnosis and almost 16 years since I finished treatment. Still, the reality of fear, it’s something that remains in the back of mind. I try and remain hopeful that I will never have cancer ever again. Praying for you sweet lady.
My friends daughter was diagnosed as stage 3 last year.She has the brac gene.She is only 4% askanazie Jewish and probably thought it wouldn't happen to her.She knew 8 yrs.ago that she had the gene.I pray that you will beat this disease.I have breast cancer and I had a negative mammogram 3 months before it was found!
OR RN here. I worked a lot and gynecological surgeries. One of my favorite doctors was a gynecological oncologist. She gave a lecture once about ovarian cancer, and she entitled the lecture “the disease that whispers.”
You are so beautiful inside and out and thank you for advocating for women that are often pushed to the side with different diagnosis or this is normal answers. Had both of my ovaries removed because of large cyst and went through menopause when I was 38 and now I’m 50 and it has definitely aged me, but at least I’m alive. I did not have cancer, but I always have issues with pain in my lower abdomen. And I often feel like I can’t eat a complete meal and that has been going on for the last five years. But all my doctor say that I’m OK they can’t find anything. It’s definitely a frustrating road. But I think since seeing your story, I’m going to see a genetics doctor and see what might be going on in that area. I wish you all the best! So glad your surgery was a success. Just want to mention that there are several genetic mutations that raise risk for different cancers, including breast and ovarian. I don’t want women who are BRCA negative to think genetic cancer is ruled out. Thank you for sharing your story!
I am so glad you did not get gaslighted!! I pray that you have many happy decades with your daughter and her future children!! The whole benadryl thing, i have heard that taking claritin before treatments helped, but as always ask the experts.

Prayers for you. I grew up in ozone Park. My parents owned the brick two family house that was next to the cross bay movie theater. The theater has been gone for many years. I will keep you in my prayers.❤
So disappointing that her doctor canceled her and the way that she did. The doctor whould have provided a very thorough and specific counseling about the significance of being BRCA 1 positive as it pertains to risk. I've been an oncology nurse for 15 years at a cancer hospital and my BRCA1 patients who underwent these procedures shared that their doctors strongly encouraged a hysterectomy and a prophylactic mastectomy asap after discovering gene status because this variant moves very quickly in the body between screening exams. There is data that can be shared with the patient about the True risk of getting ovarian cancer, which could perhaps help someone with a hard decision about getting pregnant or saving their life. Another option is to have the hysterectomy as soon as possible after giving birth. Wishing her all the best.
I'm shaking in my boots watching this, my first mystery ultrasound mass was 5cm two (2!!) years ago, two partial BRCA1 mutations, and the medical system has failed me every step of the way since then, being bounced around, lost paperwork in the system and given PTSD, and we are still no closer. The bloating is horrible, digestion is painful, my back and abdomen throb and spasm, i've had bladder and kidney infections, i had ANOTHER ultrasound and the tech, out loud, said "What is That", doctor said it was normal except for "some fluid distention, probably nothing". I had a CT scan done now and three weeks and 2 days have gone by and my doctor has not contacted me in any way. Why. Two Years i have had this sick pit in my stomach that something was so wrong and no one will listen. (added: am 26 years old no children)
I always say the extreme fatigue that you have never experienced before in life was my biggest sign that I had cancer. I was told over and over by physicians it’s age, it’s your thyroid disease, it’s being a mother of 4, it’s your job ( I traveled as a nurse). The last diagnosis was chronic fatigue. My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and finally doctors started actually taking my symptoms seriously and I was diagnosed 6 months after my sister with breast cancer. I still can’t get any oncologist to test my CA levels to see if the cancer spread anywhere. 😢
Maybe get another oncologist. Both my Mil and Sil were diagnosed with breast cancer. They did not have the Brca gene but they were negative. They both did come up positive for the ATM gene. This meant my husband also had to be tested, thankfully he was negative. But this gene took his mom's sister, his mom, his grandfather and his grandmother. Apparently all the cancer in the family should have meant earlier testing. Thankfully my s'il is in remission. We got almost nine years with my MIL, due to us being adamant about another physician's opinion. ATM gene means you got a higher chance of not only breast cancer, but other types of cancer too. So be your own advocate.
Marina, I’am so sorry for your health problem at such a young age, with a beautiful baby. You’re a unicorn and will live a long happy life. Starve the cancel cells do not eat any sugar, look up starving cancer. Young women have all their energy after having a baby before 3-months, for a doctor to tell you it’s postpartum at ten months or a new mother and tired, occurs too often. Follow the treatment, research yourself, starve cancer cells, pray have Christians with strong faith pray over you. Read Jesus and the fig tree, and put on the Armor of God. God heals and preforms miracles to firm believers. Refrain from saying My Cancer, its not yours and not what God wants you to say or believe.
idk why this isnt talked about...maybe im wrong in this ....but ive watched many cancer sfories by now. and it just seems like an overwhelming number of them happen (either starts or progresses rapidly) during pegnancies.... im assuming its all hormone related but just odd that it isnt mentioned
I’ve read it’s from hormone fluctuations. I am not qualified to know more than that detail - but lots of cancers - particularly breast and gynecological cancers are influenced by hormonal changes.

So true. My sister has stage 4 and is only 58…they said it was acid reflux, etc…is a horrific disease and has been relentless for my poor sister.

I think I heard them say in other videos that pregnancy ‘feeds’ cancer,like speeds it up.
Soo many women don’t have their cancers caught especially if they had just been pregnant
