I grew up gay in a rural small town in Colorado during the 70s and 80s listening to country music. It is impossible for me to imagine what my life would have been like, if I had the chance to hear a song and see a video like this growing up. Thank you Mr. Housman. Keep up the great work!
This just made me cry a little. 🥲 Same here but in Kansas and the 90s and 00s, so I can’t even imagine what you went through. I definitely wanted this to be the song/video I wish heard/saw when I was growing up. Thanks so much for sharing this. 💙

I never thought I would see the day that our love, our desires, our humanity, would be openly displayed in entertainment. Now, all we have to do is fight to keep it.
I came out privately at 24, publicly at 30, met my life partner at 36, marred at 50, and now at 60 we have been together 25 years. I never thought I'd see the end of DADT, the legitimization of gay marriage, or see positive gay images like this one.
Some of it, but when some are more concerned about pronouns than anything else. You have to scratch head. What happened to just having a first name and using it?
@@jacklong7048 First names are great, but we use pronouns all the time. For example, I wouldn't say, "Jacklong stopped by and then Jacklong started kissing me and then Jacklong took off Jacklong's clothes and Jacklong got into bed and Jacklong started..." Well, you get the idea. It's only common courtesy to use the right pronouns.
Don't worry you will definitely come here as a baby in next life. Ultimately the karma created because of the efforts of your generation in creating this better world needs to give you results so you will definitely come back to reap the rewards.
Me too. Started playing with guys at 19, college English Department men's room. So naive I didn't know it was gay. Heard about AIDS about that time, and you know the rest of the story.
My hope is that there will be a day that this song doesn’t need to be praised for showing the love of two men, but praised for just showing love between two people and sounding good. At the risk of sounding like a fortune cookie here. The world needs more love and less hate.
People who ain't from the South do not understand the POWER of another man lets you take off his hat, in public, and you then put it on actually means..... I am SOOO glad you put that in this awesome video.
"another man lets you take off his hat, in public, and you then put it on" This phrase never happened to me figuratively, but it did happen literally. I made a full comment about this.
@@ak5659 In a lot of the movies you see that take place in rural places, you often see the redneck girl take off her man's cowboy hat and put it on herself. This is the same as that except it's two guys. Powerful way of saying I'm yours and your mine, and what's yours is mine, and what's mine is yours. It's saying I want to wear something that you were wearing, that was in intimate contact with you.
Every time I find a new gay country music artist my heart swells. I needed this in my middle and high school years but I’m happy for it now all the same
I just sent this to my friend and asked him that question! imagine if we had this in high school? would the bullies have not been so happy to pick on him? he still talks about how that experience ruined him, he's in his 30s now. Happy, MARRIED!!, a great job... he made it out and FLOURISHED. Just wish it hadn't been so hard
I'm an old gay man who also grew up in the 50s-60s and was blown over by this video. At first I thought it was some kind of 'joke' that he was really talking about the old car but it got better. Just glad that I got to see some good old boys loving each other in the 'out' before I pass on.
I never had the courage. Biggest regret. I'm 35. Really glad to see how accepted we are now. My advice to anyone... Be who you are and follow your heart. Don’t give a damn what anyone thinks.
You’re only 35 - I came out when I was 45, married with children - I regret a lot in life, but not finally living my truth. That was 7 years ago and yes, I still sometimes struggle, but songs and videos like this will make it easier for younger generations to land on their feet a lot sooner. I wish you all the best
I started pursuing guys recently (at 32). Neither me (bi) nor my boyfriend (gay) is out but COVID put a lot of things in perspective. I got tired of being alone and wondering the "what ifs". The world doesn't need to know what we are. We have each other and are taking day by day. I'm also not afraid to say that this is my first true relationship.
Chris as a 62 year old gay man, who has seen his share of terrible things way back in the day and one who had to fight just to be here I thank you. My partner and I have been together now for 37 years, we both smiled so big when we saw this video because again we realized what an amazing long way we have had to come just to be a human being on this planet. Thank you for continuing to just pave a path of happiness for people, never realize your cup as full continue to want more. Amazing job Sir
Gahhh thank you SO much! You're absolutely right and I definitely won't stop wanting more, for my community and especially others less privileged than myself. Sending all the best to you and your husband! ❤️
Blessings to you both. 61, 2 relationships both short. AIDS. I'm still kicking, but I pray there will be a third time lucky. Doubt it. Young people are so lucky. They don't know the prejudice and hate we faced and they don't have to deal with a plague that kept a lot of us alone far too long. When I came out at 30 I lost every straight friend I had, and most of my family stopped talking to me. They will never have to care for and bury most of their friends while they are still young. Look how far we have come!
@@michaelkingsbury4305 I truly get it, I too watched so many people pass on from AIDs, it helped our community in a very weird way, it made us neighbors, it made us fill with compassion, it made us cautious, it made us learn, it united us! Wow. This really hit me. 58 and raised in a pentecostal home in Montgomery Louisiana where it was southern gospel and even country music was our sinful pleasure and I finally came out in 1985 in Shreveport Louisiana when I escaped the country, and this really did hit me me in the heart. Well damn. Boys, we done did it. Come full circle. From milkin cows, gatherin eggs, fishin, huntin, and wearin my overalls on a tractor in the fields to placing this on my headphones while I'm back in the country with my husband retired on a rocker on the porch also gatherin those eggs again goin huntin and fishin because once a country boy always a country boy. The world changes around us. These kids got their own lingos and they wanna be nonbinary and call themselves different genders and God love'm. But all I wanna do I watch the sun come up. Smell the honey suckles and watch the steal magnolias bloom and wear my overalls and love my husband and know that country can love us too. This song speaks to the soul and the nature of nostalgia and the very creation of what it means to be authentic in who we are and love in our truth
As a proud 45 year old gay man who spent most of his late teen years and early twenties going to country western dance clubs. Actually he's not the first! Offhand I can think of at least 2 other country singers that came before him: K.D. Lang who's been recording for at least 40 years and Lil Nas X who began his career fairly recently around 3 years ago.
Ever heard of Ty Herndon? Chely Wright? T.J. Osborn? Orvile Peck? It's awesome we have Chris Housman, but he's there because others kicked the door open.

I'm 40 years old and I grew up on Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Shania Twain, and Reba McEntire (among many others) and this is the first time I feel like there is country music for ME! I can't say this enough THANK YOU Chris Housman!!! Also your song Nobody fits me to a T, I found the love of my life and lost hm 4 years ago and can't imagine being with anyone else. 😢
This comment fits ME to a T! And I feel you on "Nobody" in a way I can't even express. So glad my music found you and welcome aboard - can't WAIT for you to hear the whole album!
The feeling of shame, guilt and sin brought on by social expectations broke me in two, having to hide in shame who I truly was and projecting the expected persona was so heavy on my shoulders as a kid. No one should have to grow up like that, I am now healed but it took time and courage. This gives me hope for young lives trying to find their way without having to feel ashamed for who they love!
Hey just a quick thank you for writing this song. I'm 30 this year but grew up in very small town Kansas and went through all the praying and "therapy", lost my family, and honestly still navigating my way out of it all. There's a lot of trauma. But you're saving lives with your music, truly, and helping those of us still caught up in the mess. Brought me to tears, in a good way :)

It's difficult for people to realize the impact something like this would have on a kid growing up in Rural Southern Louisiana. 43 now, married to my husband of 21 years. I truly hope you younger folks appreciate the place were in where something so beautiful and relatable as this can exist on a platform like this. It may seem like a little thing, but things like this are a catalyst for people struggling with their identity, fighting against their own upbringings and beliefs to be their authentic selves and give themselves the opportunity and allowance to be happy in their own skin. I'm sure this artist recognizes what this could mean to so many who grew up in these small towns, but if you don't consider yourself notified. Keep up the great work despite my compliments on the message make no mistake you are a wonderful singer and the song is fire. WOOFS to both of you Bears :)

What part of West Texas? I live in Lubbock. Just asking, as I have been celibate for nearly 20 years. Besides, my first love is dead. He committed suicide when we were fourteen. It took me decades to come to terms with it because the idea of being gay is so repulsive around here.

I just recently came out of the closet 2 years ago after being in it for about 15, 16 years and it still scares me, especially living in a small, religious town. Can’t hardly believe my eyes and ears! Admire your courage man!! I’ve been an upper midwest rancher and country to the core my whole life and have definitely experienced the walls of shame put up by the thought that being gay while also being a hard working ol country boy isn’t acceptable. Thanks man!!!🤠
I think there are tons of us who were raised redneck and are country to the core and are Queer. However, raised in those environs we sure do have to overcome a lot of self-hatred, shame, and even internal homophobia to accept who we are. That said, safety is still an issue for many of us, so stay safe. Even if you’re passing for a bit, I see you and care about you.
That's amazing! I grew up on a farm outside a tiny town in Kansas and YUP, basically raised being told you can't be country AND gay. Trying to change that narrative for folks like us

Thank you for making a song and video that represents and reflects other types of gays, like us. The general “community” is deeply alienating. And unless you’re a bubble-gum-pop clubbing and partying plastic character, and able to blend in and like all the stereotypical gay things, you’re treated as unwelcome and unwanted. It’s so genuinely cathartic to know there’s other guys like me. And makes things seem less lonely.
Just played this to my country music producer father here in Australia and he loved it to bits. "It's just so good!" - reminded him of country in the 60s in the best way. Not all country music is equal. It's just that gays and women do country better than straight men
Being an old timer, Im so envious and proud of this generation. ❤
You and I were there at the beginning. We should be proud, too.

People who ain't from the South do not understand the POWER of another man lets you take off his hat, in public, and you then put it on actually means..... I am SOOO glad you put that in this awesome video.
Could you please explain for us in the northeast?
"another man lets you take off his hat, in public, and you then put it on"
This phrase never happened to me figuratively, but it did happen literally.

I'm an old, bisexual man. I grew up in the 1950s-60s. Our music was both rock and country. I love this.
^^ THIS. Took me a long time to get there. 💙
you are 35 not dead. There is still time. Don't be too harsh on yourself.
You’re only 35 - I came out when I was 45, married with children - I regret a lot in life, but not finally living my truth. That was 7 years ago and yes, I still sometimes struggle, but songs and videos like this will make it easier for younger generations to land on their feet a lot sooner. I wish you all the best

Hey Chris! I've been listening to this on repeat for days now, couldn't stop watching this music video over and over again and I've learned about your story. You can be yourself and do country music and anything else you want to do! Don't let other people tell you otherwise! Much love all the way from the Philippines! ❤🏳🌈
Just reading the comments and you have definitely touched alot of 'Good Ole' Souls" with this song. As well as mine! It is beautiful!
Growing up in a small town, I could have never imagined a song and video like this in my lifetime. I got a little choked up watching it with my husband. It's the first time I felt included in the music I love, instead of like I'm on the outside looking in. Thank you for this 💙🌈
That means so much. So glad it found you and your husband!
Absolutely brilliant song and video. I want you to know your song struck a chord with me a 70 year old gay guy who came through the other side. Hot! video!!!!!! I listen to this song every day once a day! Thank you!
FULL LYRICS
I tried to fight it
To deny it
But every single night it’s the same desire, the same damn fire
I smoked a little
I tried to pray
Knew it was you the moment I felt this, baby I’m helpless
I can only resist for so long
I gave it my best
But this halo don’t fit
If I had to spend forever in heaven without you might as well be in hell
My verdict is in
Cause baby if loving you is wrong
Then I’m guilty as sin
I’m done pretending
I cut the tension
Ain’t no using us acting like, this ain’t right
I need your body
Heavy on me
I’m always falling back to your gravity, it’s pulling me
And I can only resist for so long
I gave it my best
But this halo don’t fit
If I had to spend forever in heaven without you might as well be in hell
My verdict is in
Cause baby if loving you is wrong
Then I’m guilty as sin
Yeah I’m guilty as sin
I can only resist for so long
I found holy right here in your arms
I gave it my best
But this halo don’t fit
If I had to spend forever in heaven without you might as well be in hell
My verdict is in
Cause baby if loving you is wrong
Oh baby if loving you is wrong
Then I’m guilty as sin
Yeah I’m guilty as sin
Guilty as sin
I’m in not only in a gay relationship but an interracial relationship in Oklahoma. It’s not easy at times (because, well, people and such), but it’s songs like this that help me and us along our journey. Plus it helps that my man’s a singer/songwriter too, and writes/records songs about our journey 😀. And we just got engaged during the eclipse in Dallas, love is real y’all, always follow your heart ❤️
That's amazing. It can't be easy at all times, but people there also need to see your love and I'm so glad they're able to. Congrats on the engagement!
@@chrishousmanmusicThank you sir! It’s true, so many need to see that love is love no matter the form, and we’ll continue to do what we can to make sure the world knows it too. And thank you for your great music!! Your music represents the best of what love is supposed to be 😀❤️
I understand. I’m a bisexual man also in Oklahoma.
its times like this that i remember i actually love country music
Yessss! At its core, it can be the best!
Amen!
I love country music and sit here eyes full of tears of joy for this affirmation, thank you Chris for your courage
Sitting here with my eyes full of tears right along with you ❤️
Ran across this on your TikTok and came here to listen/watch. This song hits home to me and it’s such a powerful message. Grew up in a small farm town in NC & always held back my curiosity till I was 33 & learned that I’m possibly Bi. I’m 35 now & still trying to process it all & accepting it. This song is gonna help a lot of people. Well done man and what a great voice!!!
Hey we’re all trying to figure it all out! Glad you’re here and thanks for sharing!
Great song. He has an awesome voice. Love is love. Thanks for this progressive video. I was shocked and surprised when I watched it, especially being in the country genre, but in a good way :-) Kudos to all involved in making this video. I’m wondering if Chris wrote the lyrics? So well done!
Omg who and what is this????!!! I literally just got this recommended for me and clicked it when I saw 2 hot guys close and listened to it and watched it and oh my god this is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard and seen!!!!! I'm crying for real.....this makes me so happy and hopeful and I just became a fan.....this is the only type of country music I will more than gladly listen too......thank you so much Chris Housman!!!! You made this gay guy so happy and hopeful for our future!

This song is as good if not better than anything on country radio right now. Congratulations on a job extremely well done
Wow, Country Music has come along way. Three cheers.
Word of Advice for everyone Love yourself as you are. You are all special in your own ways.
I grew up in a small country town in Brazil, being gay 'round here wasn't easy at all until I found my safe space with friends that embrace me. Wish I could had the chance to see this video before all the denial phase, hearding from people that they "don't respect people like that".
Anyways, I'm really happy and grateful for youtube somewhow recommending this. Definitely will be on my playlist for some time. Keep up with the great work, Chris, your message is reaching preople ❤️
The UA-cam algorithm apparently knows! 🥹🙌 That’s amazing that this resonates even in Brazil. Thanks so much for sharing

Omg thank you
I’m so here for this new chapter of country music! Makes me so hopeful! What a lovely song too!!!
"I loved it-it brought back so many memories from my younger years, moments that came flooding in and, honestly, broke my heart. I couldn't help but think, *if only...*
I suppose some things will always stay with us. I miss everyone for whom I was a secret.
But even though it hurts, I'm still thankful and grateful for all of it. Don't let fear take anything away from your life."
I feel so fortunate that I live during a time when a song like this can be shared with such a large audience.
Nice to see LOVE take center stage, thanks Chris.
That voice is nothing shy of amazing...and the lyrics and the music video 🙌🏾. Where is my country man?!!
After 57 years, I still haven't found the courage to live my life out loud. But WOW!! Your song is AMAZING AND BEAUTIFUL!!❤️ You have a gift. Thank you for sharing it🔥💯😊
You'll know when and if the time is right. Thanks for the kind comment - you've got this! ❤️
I don't venture into country music very often, but this popped up on my feed, and glad I gave it a listen. Great song and awesome video. Bravo!!

Saaaaame 🥹❤️
I'm IN LOVE with the song and video🌈🤗🌈🤗🌈 It's beautiful♥️
i dont listen to this genre much, but this is the first country song that deeply resonates with me, such beautiful lyrics & voice....and ive never seen a gay country artist in my lifetime, so i i think im officially a fan!!!
Yessss welcome! 🥹🤠🤗💙
I'm usually not into Country music, but there are a few exceptions. This song is definitely one of them and the video is beautiful. I too tried to pray the gay away and I'm glad that's a prayer God did not answer.
I can’t scream “Well done” louder or long enough!!! Not only is the message legit, the vocals are fire! I can both freedom and angst in your voice! POWERFUL!
So much freedom, so much angst! 🙏💙
I loved it! One of these days I’ll shake your hand, but for now, thank you! You definitely have a new fan. I’m glad I stumbled upon this video! #noCoincidences 💙
*I can hear both freedom and angst is what l meant lol
Not a fan of country music, but love this video anyway for its frankness and honesty. Lifelong gay, I was born and raised in rural Colorado so this video hits me where I live.
Thank you, Chris Housman, for such a ground-breaking good song. What a marvelous voice! I have listened to country music my whole life: Willie Nelson, George Jones, Merle Haggard…. I am 57 years old now, living in the Netherlands with my Mexican husband. We’ve been together for 20 years and are your latest fans. Thank you for making meaningful music. I wish you all the best on your musical journey! 🎶 🌈 ❤️
That's incredible! And congrats on 20 years together for y'all. Thank you
