Not really, they've only put one department on hold for now. The factory is still under construction, and they're planning to hire a few thousand more workers, but it's uncertain if they'll succeed. I'm working there, and I notice quite a few people seem lazy and tend to cut corners.

Construction is being put on hold and they are getting rid of over 1,500 workers. Lazy corner cutters are everywhere but you will find them more in companies that do not appreciate them or utilise their talents. People want meaningful work and if you do not listen to them, why would they push themselves?

Good decision you made. If something sounds too god to be true, it probably is.

I'm currently researching about Northvolt for a potential career. That's how I came across your video. You mentioned about the overtime work and night shifts. Is it really that demanding?

Unfortunately I cannot tell you the reality behind overtime work, the only input I got was by using Glassdoor. But about the night shift I can tell you, that I got told during my interview (5 months ago) that currently for engineers there are no night shifts. But as the company is growing rapidly and has not fully structured, there might be a case. I hope that helps you a bit 😊

hello LJ thank you very much for giving us the opportunity to live your experience and tell us what happens with Northvolt and if you also feel that something strange is going on there haha

If I wouldn’t have heard bad things from Glassdoor and also the Swedish people around me, I would be working there now. But now I am very glad I am not 😅

As young as you are, you have nothing to lose in joining a start-up. At any given time you can drop out, and if it succeeds as it surely will you will make a name for yourself. I think its all about market segmenation, we all know Tesla cannot meet all the needs of the market.

    • @LJgoesSweden

I understand your point. I see Northvolt as a High Risk, High Reward opportunity, that can boost your career if you live for that business, but can also leave you mentally exhausted if your not capable of following the path. My biggest argument against an easy drop out was the clause that one has to pay for all the transportation costs of delivering the goods in a container when leaving in less than a year. I totally understand the clause and also think its fair to write it in the contract, but if I would have realized very quickly that this job is not my type of work, I would be in the scary situation of being kinda forced to stay as I am not knowing how much I would have to pay back.

@LJgoesSweden looks like you did your homework well. I wouldn't want to be tied to a job that sucks. Unfortunately or fortunately many of us for the fear of risks find ourselves stuck in jobs we don't like. That transport cost clause almost sounds like the ,,E-Bike leasing" contracts from employers. One ends up being stuck for more than three years on the same job.
I hope you will find a project that suits your needs. Given another opportunity I would be tempted to convince you to reconsidere Northvolt. There is something about their PR that's just appealing. Suppose this ship will sink it will sink with many on board, eg, VW, BMW, Volvo etc.

Yes, I really had to do my homework well for this life decision, as it build my foundation in Sweden and working life.
I will always keep an eye on Northvolt, as there expansion makes me really curious. They also start building Northvolt Drei now in Germany. Definitely an interesting future. But for now, my skepticism holds me back, that they will have a breakthrough. Tesla said, their cars will be self-driving in the future, and even though that has and still is WAY TOO oversold, the point they have reached already is truly amazing. I cannot see this dimension of overselling but future-changing point in Northvolt yet. I do not think, the average human would be fascinated by the point that his car is now running on a different type of battery, but he would truly be fascinated if he can just enter the backseat of his car and it starts driving.
And yes, if Northvolt goes down, basically the whole European car industry follows them. So maybe they push them enough to never reach that point!
