- Come along as we discuss how to grow potatoes in containers, including tips for obtaining and chitting (sprouting) seed potatoes, their preferred soil, water and growing conditions, and how to plant and care for them. We personally love growing them in fabric smart pot grow bags, but potatoes can be grown in a variety of methods and containers! This video was made to accompany a blog post that includes more written instructions, photos, and information than provided here. Check it out below!

Wow, I am so grateful you posted this video! I was planning on planting potatoes this weekend, and man, my game plan was polar opposite to what you were recommended. They would have failed! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Can’t wait to try growing potatoes this year. Funny, my husbands says the same thing, potatoes are so cheap at the store, why grow it? But... he finally caved, so we will be trying it soon.
Learned some tips today. Thank you.
Helpful video as I am researching before my potato planting this season here in SoCal💕🙏
This was an amazing video! So informative and you made it soooo much easier than any article or video I have watched! My first time gardening and I'm so excited! Thank you!!
Just the video i needed! Thank you so much for all the information, I'm a new gardener this year :) I also really like your chickens lol
Wow what an awesome video thank you so much definitely keeping a list of tips for next Spring 2021...all the best from NY
you inspired me to try this this year. got grow bags for Christmas. started my yukons and some reds a few weeks ago. bought another bag of red seed potatoes, might have to start those as well. do you succession sow or just batch, harvest and batch again?? LOVE the UA-cam channel, cant wait to see it grow more. Been a fan of your garden for a while now. I remember when you put the pollinator garden in! THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!!
Thank you, so much information here. I will be using a fabric grow bag to grow my potatoes on a sometimes sunny patio in the UK...I will definitely use straw!
I agree about growing your potatoes at home because at least that way you know the produce history.
Love the grow bag...
This is so helpful! I didn't plant mine low enough. Think I can dig em up and start over? The leaves have just broken the surface
I was wondering... i would like to eat as fresh as possible. Could you also harvest what you eat? Or.. when you harvest it al. How long does it stay well?
Hey Danika, I live in SoCal zone 9b Simi Valley. I ordered a ton of varieties of seed potatoes and even Clancy Potato seed. I have all 3 type: early, intermediate and late harvest, and they should be delivered in March from Potato Lady in Maine.
My question is, would I plant all 3 types at the same time and harvest at the different times of year? Or do they all get planted at different times of year? This may be a dumb question, but you’re dealing with a Brady who has TBI.
I would plant them all at the same time and harvest them as they mature at different rates.

What do you do with the soil after you pick the potatoes?
She re-used it - rewatch and see
Did I possibly miss what size grow bag you are using?
We typically use anywhere from 10 gallon to 20 gallon grow bags.
Did you put different kinds of potatoes in there? Thank you
We usually grow a number of different varieties.
Seems very overcrowded to me. I would have put less than half that. This is the first time I've heard about the acidic soil though.
