You know at least the batteries in a GBA game can be easily replaced. Open the cardridge, carefully free the old battery, put in new, and make sure it connects solidly... done. But this... THIS! What were the designers at Philips sniffing, glue?
Phillips sure was not expecting their very expensive device to be used well into the future.

Did you have to buy a new IC? If so, why not desolder the IC? Or is the battery actually inside of the IC?
The battery is inside the chip. Looks like a pain in the ass to get out lol
