That is very kind of you to say, I tried my best to be detailed , thorough & true to life... guys made a really great entertaining Video, i just don't Think they pushed it hard enough, don't Think they had intentions on breaking it. but he had some cool demonstrations. ...and again many thanks for the support
I Buy Cloudhammer Handachi - Cobalt Cherry - s5 About two months ago To Germany. I was very disappointed because of the video MATTHEW JENSEN'S 😂 But after your great video my morale is back again🎉 You have done a worthy job.🤝🏼
Thanks for sharing! That is very good to hear, but It is always good to hear many different perspectives on the same line of products, as different opinions, & positiotions of things, can help you formulate your own more confidently, thanks for watching & for your support.
Thank you so much, it is always good to hear feedback that points out the performance of the sword, and the thought process behind it! ...much appreciated Karl
You did a very good review. I’m happy to see You tried. The coffee can filled with water. That is something I used as a test when I started using tantalum for my cutting edge my blade sliced through it like it was a milk jug. It did move almost fell up the stump, but did cut all the way through. The blade you tested actually survived longer than I thought. I was impressed for being a cheaper blade.
Thank you kindly for the encouragement, but that is not necessarily a cheap blade, S5 blades are among the higher tier in price... This sword build, I believe, goes for 800.00...
@@JoeSteel1 I guess I meant cheaper priced than the blade’s i forge my blades start at $5000 and go up into the mid $20,000 area either way awesome review
Well done man I watched the thing on my way home this was impressive I thought it held up incredibly well.. that ping is one of the most satisfying sounds on the planet
Scott my good man, always a pleasure to hear from you, and many thanks, yes i can't tell you how many pieces of broken stone flew at face..if not for the protector 😀...hope we all get something from these these "tests"
It was cool to see you do a Matthew Jensen on the sword. It took a lot of abuse before dying. It would be cool to see it reshaped into a smaller blade. I have the first S5 Kodachi that came out. The blade is incredibly light and fast. I wonder how much abuse the shorter blades can take?
Glad to see that you are happy with your new sword!...Im sold on these S steels, even at the present state HRC, they are just perfect for cutting Hard stuff
That took alot of work, it snapped similar how a mason snap's a stone . Scoring a line across the face then hit the backside forcing a break at the scored point. Great video Joe
It would appear to have broken easily but there was alot of impact stress history that was put on the blade from 3 hard sessions, but I also wanted to stretch this out to be thorough...thanks brotha JD
Thanks! I actually wanted to do more chops, but the video was long already. I have a few more coming...but ya, I agree, some destruction is necessary from time to time to test durability 😅😅 yes the tree is a good option for many blades...
Amazing job Joe! Your reviews are always great to watch. I like the fact that , you always on point and provide clear information. In your opinion what do you think of cloudhammer s5 vs Shadow Dancer s5 resilience and strength wise?
Well the Strong Argument between CH. and SD. in the S5 provider sence is that SD. is the better quality fit n finish, Koshirae is better, Astecthic apeal ect. and overall fit...I used an expensive S5 from SD....it was strong stood up to targets, bad cuts Yada yada...I did not push it as hard as CH. so I can't atest to the same, but was strong to the point I used it.. maybe I will one day
Great review as always my man! I would say I’m a little disappointed that it only broke after two hits to the spine, but you had already beaten the ever living crap out of it previously, so it was not at full strength. Still really impressive!
It did get a beating but, I think the spine test really took it to the limit...still believe it's a really tough steel, curious how a softer s5 temper will hold the line
Thank you for this video! I would be interested how a differential hardened T10 and a through hardened 1095 or 9020 would compare - if you find the chance...
many thanks, as I said, I am open to other destruction videos like this but, I don't want to base my channel on it...To answer your question, depending on the quality of heat tempered, the T10 would have the tendency of taking a set(bend) fairly quick and eventually weaken and break, still tough but not as resilient as S5 type steels
Well you have to imagine how much stupid hard materials and, for how long and with strong force i abused the blade with...its a tough SOB...maybe not for the Apocalypse but for cutting normal materials, you will not have an any issues, some of the best steel for that
Do it. Get a 1x30 belt sander and some 80 grit belts. Take your time, keep it cool enough as to not ruin the temper, and you could make a nice 2 handed waki.
With an 80 or maybe even a 40 grit belt it wont take long at all. Winter might actually be an advantage. The cold weather and a buch of snow to cool blade down in might help to preserve the temper. Even a 120 grir will rip steel right off. Im using a 120 grit belt (cuz its the lowest belt i have) to add distal taper to my cold steel light cavalry saber right now to get weight and balance within historical specs. If it goes well, my Condor grosse messer is next. Lol.
You know, I'm getting to think S5 & S7 are not to different from one another...on Paper S5 is more shock resistant, but I think at the end of the day it depends on how it is heat tempered, I've seen S7 go longer than S5 even though it shouldn't, and vice versa, I would like to see them with a little less HRC like 59.60 the most...To answer your question, I still lean towards S5 as the stronger in GENERAL..
S5 has broken surprisingly easy. But a well tempered 1060 or t10 mono is damn hard near impossible to break. Jensen has some demonstrations where he broke s5 but couldn't break a t10 or a folded mono...
As I said in the video, it seemed to have been tempered to a too high HRC...as was Matthew's as to why we were able to break the sword in similar ways...a softer steel would take a set before breaking...a better tempered S5 i think would be more durable than other steels, but to say this sword was not tough is understated..I put this sword through many days of hard stress. Still know S5 is one of the strongest steels out there if tempered correctly
I would be curious to see. If you send a well-tempered T10 or 1060 to Matt or Joe, we're happy to pony up an s5 to bash against it and see which one breaks first.
It's the best destruction test for s5 steel
The test is more realistic more than Shadiversity ❤

It's a great destruction test for s5 Shock Steel 👐🏼
I hope so too...shared it with RVA, I m sure he will pass it along..amd Thank You!!!

Excellent video series, thanks for not only doing this, but for doing it safely and responsibly. Great feedback!

That may be a project I will approach this winter my friend, would be interesting to re invent it.
Good stuff Joe. I got the S5 that Matt reviewed. Its very tough! Toughest sword i got so far⚔️

@ yeah,im thinking bout a custom Shadowdancer unokubi S5.
@samuraibyrd Now that's 🔥 HOT
You got the 57 HRC one, which is tougher.

Nice testing regimen! I'm inspired to add a durability test that doesn't mangle the edge, similar to your tree trunk chop.
Thanks! I actually wanted to do more chops, but the video was long already. I have a few more coming...but ya, I agree, some destruction is necessary from time to time to test durability 😅😅 yes the tree is a good option for many blades...
right on. that steel is legit.
It definitely proved a lot to me, but there is room for improvement

so sad for you Brother that this beautyfull Blade broke, but the Video was perfect as allways, much love and Respect Brother
I appreciate that...no worries brotha that was the whole purpose of the sword review
I like these destruction videos 🔪🔪⚔️🗡️🗡️
Yes that seems to be the consensus these days...from time to time I will test for durability, I may have one coming with some shadow Dancer swords...

MATTHEW JENSEN'S RECIPE FOR BREAKING A SWORD BLADE😂😂😂
That's Gospel Truth right there...LMAO
Matthew Jansen formula of breaking swords. go ham on the spine. the recipe of breaking blades by Matthew Jansen.
That would be a much better test, no doubt. with Matthew, he is a pioneer after all...thanks for watching
With this, I'm rather wondering how well their S5 longswords hold up.

That's alot of steel to remove, I may keep it as a project, probably during warmer weather as to keep all the metal dust outside

Yes, Billy, I think you may be on to something 😉😁😁😁😁
which is more resistant to destruction s5 or s7

@JoeSteel1 Thanks for the info 👍🏻
As Joe says, it all depends on heat treatment. If correct heat treatment, then s5 is tougher than s7 at the same edge retention
