Hi Lee, so many cars needing a new clutch is interesting. I'm now 67 and over the years I have owned many cars. I don't know if it's my driving technique but I've never had to replace the clutch on any of the cars I have owned. I never ride or slip the clutch so maybe that's why I never needed to replace a clutch. Years ago a mechanic friend said if you treat a clutch properly it should last the life of the car. I think he was right. Thanks for the interesting videos.
When my girlfriend passed her driving test about 4 years ago she got taught to hold the car on the clutch rather than use the handbrake due to lots of modern cars not having conventional handbrakes. Might have something to do with it.
Same here. Driven many different kinds of vehicles large and small. Never worn a clutch out in 40 plus years. Never worn a gearbox out either. I still double de clutch. From what I have seen drivers are not taught how to use a clutch properly and have no sympathy for a gearbox hence why first and second synchros get worn out on cars. I was lucky to be taught how to use a crash gearbox. One of my vehicles a Zafira 2.0 dti covered 1/4 million miles on its original clutch and gearbox. Both were still good. It died at 1/4 Million miles due to the diesel pump packing up. I had owned the vehicle from nearly new for 12 years.
I am Australian so our driving conditions are a bit different to yours I expect but I had manuals when i first started driving and the only clutch I replaced was on an Alfa-sud after 200,000k of mixed driving but mostly in the city. I had an auto fail on my Ford Fairmont wagon (the wagon version of Hubnuts "Betty") but the guys who replaced it could not give me a definite cause for that failure (I was the third owner of the vehicle).

Absolutely totally agree with your comment about Europart’s Lion batteries. When I bought our Fiat 500l from you and you said you’d stick a new battery on (and the million other things you did) I remember thinking ‘please don’t let it be a Lion battery’. My relief when I saw my new GSF Drivetech battery - great batteries
My Mrs is one of those! Got a new Kia Sportage top end GT Line S, brand new, looks a tip inside! Had an argument and I was told it doesn’t matter, just gets from A to B 🤷♂️
Them R53 Mini’s are great if you find a good one. I’ve owned an original John Cooper Works one for seven years and it’s a real fun drive with the super charger. As you say, they are more reliable than the later models.

Hi I have a 2009 i10 1.2 bought new under the scrappage scheme , it’s never skipped a beat fantastic car, I have a mobile mechanic who services it and says it’s really well built for a small car.
Precision clutch components ltd was mentioned in a 6d diesels vid recently, he uses them a lot they essentially remanufacture the original components - might be worth a try.
I have definitely seen car sales slow down over the past 4 months. Cars that would usually be snapped up on eBay and auto trader are just sitting there for months on end until the prices are dropped massively
You would hope with interest rates finally at more normal levels, dealers would want to shift stock rather than have dozens of cars (which I presume are held on credit) just sit around?
@@Nick-io9ukinterest rates on cars are still between 8-12% on average, all other dealer costs are up due to inflation. I’m guessing this is why they refuse to subsidise but the market value is exactly that and people will either not buy or go elsewhere such as auction or private sales
@@KingShaf7 Yes, ultimately its whatever the market will bear, but the market value is impacted by an opportunity cost of holding onto stock too long as well. Maybe there is a loss/subsidy in selling below desired asking price, but there is also a cost in not selling, maintaining a loan & not freeing up funds for other things. Which I guess is one reason why Cazoo went pop & Motorpoint booked record losses.

Sheesh! What kind of tip rat had that 1 litre Corsa? I had that earth strap issue with my Panda and luckily the RAC man knew the problem straight away, put a new one from the gearbox to the body rather than replace it the correct route it was initially (apparently it goes behind the battery 🤷♂?) and I've never had an issue again in 8 months and only cost me £7!! Winner.
You make a good point about breakers & scrap yards, every town had one and more in place now they have gone. Have you never thought about calling it a day selling cars and buying breakers and having a scrap yard, selling cars is hard work and people want Bentleys for Fiesta money, no paint issues, no MOT, just guys getting the good stuff off the cars and selling on, or let people get the stuff off like it used to be. Got to be lucrative enough and I’m guessing easier, maybe I’m wrong?
Glad we got to see the R50 Mini - had one for 14 years - judging by the rear tail lights and bumper, yours looks like an early 2004 facelift car, so it should have the Getrag gearbox in it, rather than Rover’s Midland one. Maybe change the interior for an all black leather one? Great cars, the Leeds Mini specialist I use for stuff I can’t fix myself say they see R50s with over 250k miles. Good luck with yours.
I've also owned many cars and vans since 1982 and never had to change a clutch, even after 100,000 miles of mixed use driving but I bought a 2022 Kia CEED brand new and it needed a replacement clutch and release bearing more or less immediately, due to faulty parts. It was better but still not right so I sold it and bought a brand new 2022 Mazda 3 which I still have and that has had a juddering clutch from new, I think it will need to be changed to cure it. The main dealers have told me they've had a substantial increase in warranty claims on vehicles built around that time and it seemed to be something to do with the period during and after the pandemic. Perhaps component factories had issues after being shut down and restarted due to the pandemic.

I'm 69 and been driving since my 17th birthday passing my test. The times I've had to replace clutches are oil leaks, previous bad drivers or overhauls. I don't ride the clutch. I stop and don't edge forwards as most modern drivers do. I agree and I had a MK3 cavalier for 20 years which when I bought it needed a clutch. I had a genuine vauxhall 3 piece fitted which lasted me 20 years then I had to scrap it due to rust.

My 1.2 only does 32mpg round town lol and i drive it carefully but it is an old car im putting £3 a day in it so for example if i put a tenner of fuel in i get 50 miles not brilliant for a 1.2 considering of you go back in time before Covid £10 of fuel in a 1.2 would probably get you like 80 miles , Diesel seems to be the way to go in my opinion my friend has a 1.5 Clio diesel and shes getting 50mpg around town and for £10 shes getting 90 miles if driven slowly that is a bargain and only £35 a year tax

@@volt8684 Yeah the thing is though i used to own a tiny Hyundai i10 and they are not economical at all 1.2 engine in that too and the best i got was 40mpg and best im getting from my current car a 1.2 500 is 34mpg its weird as the speed limit is only 40mph where i live must be the exhaust leaking or something ?

Li, do my eyes decieve me or has that Peugeot clutch plate been polishing its top rivets mate? regarding scrappies, we've got the same problem down here in Pompey. lost our last city yard early this year when old Baz decided to retire. he cited regulations, business damage from Covid and a complete lack of available stock because people are keeping old cars on the road and not buying new. but the real clincher I recon is that his old man who founded the business died not so long ago and his son isn't interested. the next yard we have is 20-30 mins away and they're winding down because they can sell the land for a fortune to a housing developer to build very nice looking expensive rabbit hutches. we're becoming increasingly reliant on DIY breakers via Gumtree & eBay + the big boys both of which make second hand spares increasingly expensive.
Blasted burds hate the things gulls especially ,anyways hope rest of month goes well LeeOh and the mistake folks make with fake birds of prey is they stick them up and leave them they dont realise you need to keep moving them around or birds soon realise, trust me tho it would burst your knittin
Doing very well, my margins are no different to dealers selling 10k cars, which cost more to prep and parts more expensive. The only advantage they have which helps drive further income is finance which generates coms but on the flip side finance vehicles are a nightmare, slightest issue and finance house are trying to reverse the deals. As for labour my mechanics are on salary which comes out of the running costs of the business. We are doing just fine currently but always can do better

Not correct.Dual Mass Flywheels made rubber are a cause of most Clutch issues.

Peugeot 207 clutches are hydraulically auto adjusting to have a really high bite point. You think they're worn but the bite point never changes

1.2 petrol with that mpg is faulty. My daughters 1.0 petrol Yaris s does 55 mpg

Its hard now to even get a scrapyard licence to operate with all the red tape. yes it was down to the rivets. Thankfully all ok when reassembled

The problem with naming a Ford car 'Ka' pronounced 'Karrr' is that it begs the reply 'what sort of Ford car ?' Ka (Kay-Ey) leaves no doubt.

Doing very well, my margins are no different to dealers selling 10k cars, which cost more to prep and parts more expensive. The only advantage they have which helps drive further income is finance which generates coms but on the flip side finance vehicles are a nightmare, slightest issue and finance house are trying to reverse the deals. As for labour my mechanics are on salary which comes out of the running costs of the business. We are doing just fine currently but always can do better
@@carukchannelgood on you mate, your selling loads and doing well, as you say finance is mixed, people think warranty is as long as the chucky deal and sometimes it is (!)
