Hands down the GTO is the one. It needs a little work here & there but its totally worth it to have the namesake of thee original Muscle Car that started it all. THE GOAT!
Ok, I’m 50, but still have maturity of a teenager most of the time. (I currently daily drive an STi, and weekend an S197 GT.) I have had the pleasure to have my first car be a late 70’s Caprice. Total boat. Taught me excellent car control, especially in snowy winters with all season tires. Since then, I have been lucky to be able to afford cheap versions of the following cars: 1964 Cutlass Coupe (no b-pillar), a ‘68 Firebird 350 (ran terrible but was a blast), and a ‘72 Buick GS (“nice Chevelle man!”). The old cruisers were fun. They had personality. Was glad to be able to experience ownership of some cool old school muscle. I’ve had some cool modern cars as well, but just something about those classics. Would love a ‘65 Mustang 289 fastback some day. Noticed the older car market is very depressed (lower prices), so great time to grab a classic. Bad timing for me to be short on cash.
GTO had chipped paint and missing trim around headlights, missing turn signals...not in the best shape. Shaved engine bay? look around the inside of the rear window, something missing? Rougher condition for sure, IDK man... I think it's a bad call. The only thing going for it is that it's a GTO. Panel fitment is off.
Pretty sure it's not missing trim around the headlights. GTO's had grill matching covers powered by vacuum lines that would rotate up. If I remember right, the trim is on the covers.
@@CallingBlue The paint job is just unfortunate with the Satellite and it doesn't inspire confidence in the rest of the bodywork. However, the GTO is the same in this regard, TBO. Lots of bad signals on that one. To get that GTO to the level of the first two would cost a lot of money. I think the father is correct to prioritize condition. He probably doesn't want a project and that's perfectly fine. The GTO is a project, so is the Satellite, but to a lesser degree...just paint and trunk really.
Me and mein homiez fly in formation vith our Merkur’s, jawohl, the BMW and Porsche transmissions kept failing us, ve needed our squad to pull up for a thousand years. Mein homie, a furry named fucka-wolf-190, got his with the interceptor 30mm turbo.
Galaxy is the better of the two, but I rather have a 65-70 Oldsmobile 98, huge luxury car, that came in both coupe and sedan with the later years having the legendary 455 V8!
I actually drove a 66 Caprice in college that was a 396 Big Block....in the 70's it was my "Daily" as I wrenched on my 340 Duster that liked to eat connecting rod bearings at a frightengly high rate when spun over 7000RPMs @ the Drag Strip....Great CAR! I paid $600 for it drove it 18 months and sold it for $750 to buy a 72 Ranchero.
I got a tattoo when I was 16 at a guys house. He had a boat tail riviera with gold Daytons and a similar paint scheme.( typical boomer candy burgundy) It was broken down in the front yard. With a few part cars of various shape.A high school friends dad. He fits ur description lol. He gave me beer from a ice chest in the living room that doubled as my chair. Hahaha, true story.....
12:50 was a pretty close 50/50 split on production. Including all trim levels of the fastback, about 45% of all 69MY mustangs were fastbacks. approximately 51% were hardtop coupes, and the other
The shifter on the GTO (Stands for what it burns; Gas, Tires, Oil) looks to be a Hurst shifter and they aren't (usually) just knobs. Hurst made entire shifter assemblies for the 4 speeds on various makes of cars. I have one on my 1970 AMC Rebel Machine
That GTO at 9:40 everyday. Especially if I'm planning to drive it. The tank is sadly not road legal in Australia. Bugger, I could combat the truck\SUV plague with that. Yeah, I got blind spots now too, RAM boi.🎉
Back in high school in automotive class we would work on these old boomers cars for free for the learning experience. I think it was the free work that got us the cars, but this guy we called1 chickenman would bring in his deep dark blue 72 Buick Rivera for us to work on. I always made sure I got to pull I mean bring the yacht in to dock....I mean into shop. Biggest feeling car I've ever drove. Till this day if I could afford a boomer car that would be it.
I really like those microfiber paper towels. They’re reusable until they get nasty then you just throw em away. On my subscribe and save for a new roll two or three times a year. There is a 1948 Studebaker Champion for $25k on Autotrader Classics, private seller in Montague CA… please do a part 2!
The Rev is right, but the Caprice rides and drives better. The GTO is the 2 person muscle car. Caprice seats 6 people but only needs 2 doors. It's more efficient, but the Small block Chevy and no overdrive on the Caprice means a new power train. So Gallaxie 500, The Big Red Rocket of Love.
Yeah the gto is the winner, but I think you guys were too quick to move past the mustang with that build list. A 351 crate engine? 5 speed manual and big disc brakes all around? That thing would be sweet. Use the paint and ac compressor to talk the guy down a bit and I think you'd be pretty happy with your purchase.
I vote the 71-72 for the superior powertrain with the 455 compared to the 401/425 nailhead. Also from 63-65 you could have an option to get a ONE SPEED transmission called the dynaflow. This is coming from an owner of a 66 Electra with a 401 and the best transmission the early st400 which turned into the th400. 455s are just monsters
@@theeoddments960 I love the 70s Rivs too, but if it were me i'd swap the 455 into a 65. Those bodylines are just unbeatable. Also never knew that, interesting
@@MKIVGTI1.8 the other thing is the x frame. They don’t have ladder frames the x frames are stiff enough but offer 0 crash protection at least a frame would stop a car from being crushed in a head on.
Although the 69 Mustang is my favorite year of Mustang, because of those paint issues and the sheer p r e s e n c e that the GTO exudes, I've gotta give it to the GTO in this instance. I've wanted to buy a 68-69 Lemans to do a 10-14 Camaro SS LS3 + 6 speed swap restomod but only because it seemed like GTO's were the way more expensive version of the Lemans, so I opted for the more affordable one. But 30 grand for a GTO seems way more attainable than I was expecting so if I ever get around to it, I may just splurge and get the GTO over the Lemans if that's the price that they go for nowadays lol
My ideal boomer car is a 69 camero SS. Idk if you could get a clean SS for 30k tho so I'd settle for just whatever clean v8 69 camero. I dont even need an engine it it cause I'd wanna put a blown z06 motor in it. But would be nice to be able to drive it till I swap it then sell the OG motor to offset it

the "just need a mustang with a p-51 livery behind you the whole time" joke should have hit harder, that was amazing.
Low riders aren’t my thing, but they put sooooo much work into the most amazing paint jobs. I can appreciate and respect the effort.

Hell yeah, Galaxie 500 doesn't get any love. I love my 69 fastback but I'm a stupid florida dirtbag so it's on 47 inch tires.
