    Nine locomotives on one train. That's incredible.

    Reminds me of the old US Southern Pacific lash-ups. They even used the Yard Shunter's when needed.

    Me thinks Fred needs to go out and do better.. The vision is good as far as I'm concerned.. If Fred thinks he can do better.. Then got to it Fred.. and let us be critical of your work.. bwDVD, Thank you for taking the time out to bring this to us non HD viewers..;-)

    Well done, Bevan - as always great filming and editing including the drone shot. That long sequence from the 9 min mark is a beauty. You certainly know the best locations!

    • @bwDVD
      @bwDVD  6 років тому

      My son was piloting the drone. I describe the composition of the shot I want and he has the skill to make it happen. If you look carefully you can see where I was set up for the trackside shot.

    Did all of the seven power unit at the head of the train have the same HP rating? Question: if there is one or more power plant that makes up a train does all the power plants have to about the same horsepower? ( would you have one with say 6000 HP and one with only 4000 hp working as a pair)? thanks for a very good video. Beautiful scenery, look really good on widescreen (Mississippi gulf coast, USA)

    • @fkn16v
      @fkn16v 2 роки тому

      In simple terms yes you can. Its mostly about the total HP over all loco required to do the job.

    Warms my heart to see a proper Aussie lash up running in 2017. A lot of power on that train. How many cars did they have?

    • @bwDVD
      @bwDVD  6 років тому

      There was a total of 59 wagons weighing in at 4484 tonnes. Total length, including locos, was 1030 metres. It was not an exceptionally long or heavy train. However, the larger, heavier locos can not travel out to Merrywinebone so "little" engines are needed, with the big locos being left at Narrabri. If this train had loaded at one of the mainline silos only four "big" locos would be up front. SSR have a permanent TOC WAIVER permitting more than four locos to be powering on these northwest grain trains.

    Brilliant. I have never seen 9 locos on the one train before. How heavy was the train? 400 tonnes?

      There was a total of 59 wagons weighing in at 1516 tonnes. Total length, including locos, was 1030 metres. It was not an exceptionally long or heavy train. 1516 tonnes was the weight of the empty train including locos. The loaded train was 4484 tonnes again with locos.

      That test train was approximately 10000 tonnes. Imagine that going over Ardglen using older motive power!

    • @nswtrainsvlogs4853
      @nswtrainsvlogs4853 6 років тому

      They would have needed 15 older locomotives to haul that many tonnes!

  • @macauleyhaywood8643
    @macauleyhaywood8643 6 років тому +1

    That is incredible, this may not be correct but only five locos can be powering. Is this true?

    • @bwDVD

      All of the locomotives were powering for the climb over the Liverpool Range.

    People like Fred can only be dealt with one way, ignore them...it is the attention that they crave, and this only feeds their egos and lack of self worth and makes them believe that they are someone of importance who is worth listening to...

    Sorry but these are all ancient ALCO locomotives long overdue for meltdown.
    Sorry but your video camera needs a similar fate.Non HD is not at all satisfactory
    Thanks for bringing me up to date on this very interesting section of railway over the Liverpool Range.
    Get a fully automatic video camera with steady shot for Christmas. I have had a Sony DSCWX350 for a couple of years now.

      Original video recorded with a broadcast quality 4K camera. Just uploaded at low resolution due to having a slow internet connection which always times out when attempting to upload full HD files. If you want full HD buy the blu-ray when it is eventually released. If you want the 4K version, God knows how long you'll have to wait until it becomes possible to deliver that medium.
