  • This saw has been discontinued. This video is for current G4 owners and to show some of the features on the new BM series Scroll Saws.
    This scroll saw was the latest model in production by RBI when they went out of business in 2006. They were still selling the 220VS ULTRA and 226VS ULTRA as well.

    I bought my RBI 220 in 1993 and it's still running just fine. I do admit to not using it for months at a time though. But still, here it is April/2020 just about 27 years old and it's still going. And I'm 80 and still going too. I have been using it mostly for Intarsia now. Amazing.

    Every experience I've had with Hawk Tools has been fantastic...they've helped me with saw blades on an older machine made many many years ago ...they helped me with parts and knowledge ...Hope who works the phones us the sweetest and us super helpful also she called me to correct an over payment on my part...no one does that these days just good honest folk...I buy anything I can buy from them before I even look elsewhere. Business dealings I.E. are a relationship.its got to be profitable on both sides they've exceeded that for me ...now my job as a consumer of their goods and services is to reward good companies with my buying dollar. I'll continue to do so

    I purchase my saw 35 years ago, it works great! I can cut dove taills and pins with it of course a larger draw is a little hard to cut but works great. I have cut woooden clock gears, I made a clock in a few hours plus assembly and sold it for big $$$$

    I was storing some stuff for my sister while she was moving into a smaller home. with this stuff was a craftsman scrollsaw, I was bored, set the saw on an old desk and started cutting. I was hooked, came a long way, that was 26 years ago. made the move and bought a 220VS in may of 1996. I'm still using the saw on a daily basis for 20 years now. it still looks as if it is new, and performs as such. if and when I ever where it out, I'll buy another, they are that good. The only way I would purchase a differant brand is simply to have a choice of which saw I want to cut with although I can't imagine getting used to a differant saw. 20 years ago I bought the "RIGHT" saw.

    wow this new 26 " BM is a much improved saw. Even though my old AC model is still going strong I'm considering another one.

    I have the 220-3 and only have the foot pedal and three speeds that are adjusted by moving the band to a larger or smaller gear

    I just purchased a hawk scroll saw at a pawn shop looks almost identical to the saw you are using. I paid 100 dollars for it, looks like new.

    Haha LOVED the intro. I heard the music and knew what was coming: script explains that the craftsman is believed to be focused on his work, pretends to notice the camera, stops working, greets viewers with a "Hello/Hi"introduces himself, welcomes and begins the dialogue.
    Did he look up for his cue a little early there?

    You show 7/8 " movement of the blade, but the dimension lines indicate from the top of the arm (when arm is up) to the bottom of the arm (when it is down). that would include the thickness of the arm. So the actual amount of movement would only be about 3/8".

    I fixed my barrel blade holders for 2 bucks! Thank God I didn't spend $20 a piece for them which is what you charge for replacements. All it takes is a plastic T and a 1/4x20 cap socket screw. After pressing the T cap on with epoxy it will work for another 30 years!

      Saw your update but just wanted to state parts for my Hawk for those T screws were only a couple of bucks about three months ago. Talked to the folks out there and they were very helpful. Their telephone number has issues sometimes seem like because of their location but they returned my call when I left a message.

  • @rhshel
    @rhshel 7 років тому

    upon further research on the New BM Hawk website they indeed do offer just the T drive screw for the old barrel blade holders and they are only 2 bucks. That is reasonable! So I believe they do care. Just get this drive cap socket screw and the old barrel blade holder is renewed!

    I keep our website updated as frequently as possible. If you had taken the time to click "show more" you would see that this saw was discontinued. It is still a relevant video to those who do own a G4. The BM series is the current model sold by Hawk Woodworking Tools and the first model completely engineered and made by Bushton Manufacturing.

    I have two Hawks. I had the small one and also bought the 26" one. I've had it for years and it still works. However mine uses an AC motor. I understand that this has changed to a DC motor for better control. Show me more!

  • @markbluedaemon
    @markbluedaemon 11 років тому

    This is not a problem since our blade holders work just as well if you turn them around so that the handle is on the left rather than the right.

  • @markbluedaemon

    The 800 number was not something we were able to get when we purchased the company. If you need any parts or information, clicking on "show more" will provide our current telephone number as well as our website and email address.

    Scott I own a 226vs Hawk. I have had it since 1985 I bought it for my hubby and it turned out I was the one who fell in love with scroll sawing. My speed has something wrong now it is locked on high. Do you have connections where to buy parts. I'm having withdrawal symptoms I want to saw now it getting cooler down here in Florida. I await your answer. Thanks.

    • @rhshel
      @rhshel 7 років тому +1

      Virginia Derk: Look under your Hawk around the motor and linkages. If it gets too much saw dust the speed controller is affected. Just clean the hell out of it with compressed air and it will work like a champ again.

    Turning the table to the right wasn't doing the bottom arm much good when it hit the clamp handle. :) Still, it looks like it was a good scroll saw, though I am not sure I would swap for my Hegner.

    Can anyone tell me about the lower blade holder that is shown at 20:22? Looks a lot different then what I have on my G4. If it is easier to use, I am all in. Thanks

      That was the original blade holder they designed for the machine. It was cast rather than machined and was made overseas.

      I've had my G4 for about 10 years or so.. When the G4 first came out. The holders kept changing.. it seemed. I had problems with them and they would send me three or four new ones at a time. Now they have new owners or new management... The cost for one is ridiculous.

      I bought new clamps from Hawk for my bm-20 about a year ago in 2020 but contacting them by phone was an issue because of some sort of phone problem they experience in their area's land lines. I know it seems strange but they still had those small items I needed through their website and I did actually get through by phone because one part was on back order which they got to me within a couple of weeks. Good folks

    Fine as the Hawk looks and it does look like a nice piece of kit, I'm not impressed by this guy's selling technique. Only a shyster would try to sell this tool by comparing it to a bandsaw or a jigsaw. He is obviously aiming for the "dumbass newbie" market rather than treating his audience with respect. He forgets that skilled or at least experienced scrollsaw artists are just about his ONLY market, as this is certainly not an entry level machine.

      As someone who does not own a scroll saw yet this video has made me seriously consider getting a hawk. I am a hobbyist woodworker and mainly purchase pre 50's era shop tools due to the construction quality and made in America I am leaning toward one of these. I do not feel as if he was talking down to me in any way. I found the video to be on par with George Vondriska's woodworkers guild videos. I had no idea about some of the techniques were possible on a scroll saw. What I don't understand is that if your such an "experienced scroll saw artist" why would you sit through a 30 minute overview of the machine? And as far as respect goes, it is earned.

    • @hoold01
      @hoold01 10 років тому

      There seems to me much you don't understand and it's not my job to change that but read my comment again and show me where I profess to be an experienced scrollsaw artist. I love woodworking technology and know a bit about it, particularly scrollsaws so why wouldn't I want to see information on a new offering? I just disliked the guy's pitch and stand by my comment, particularly the bit about "dumbass newbies". No offence, however.
