I still think that "The Last Wish" is in many ways way better than the first Puss In Boots film! it was so nice to hear the voice actors for Puss and Kitty reprise their roles after 11 years!!!
I never got to realize what it deeply meant when Death says, "Pick it up!", but it definitely had me hooked to how intimidating he is to where Puss worked up the courage to fight for his last life. What a masterpiece this movie is.
The photorealism for Shrek works because the Shrek Movies were basically a middle finger to fairytales. The design changes in this movie also makes sense because it’s not trying to stick it to fairytales. It’s trying to tell an action-adventure-comedy with characters that happen to be from the Shrek universe
God this movie was so good. Genuinely made me tear up at a couple points. Even after my 4th watch I still cry at the panic attack scene and the ending. Genuinely a phenomenal piece of media. Its insane to me that this came from the same studio as the Boss Baby.
I think the first scene where Puss in Boots runs from death and the dog therapy scene really illustrated how I felt when having a bad panic attack. When Perrito just comforts Puss honestly made me sob. I think the ideas of facing your reality and embracing it, or facing it with courage is something that we really needed to hear. I was very happy that the writers animators and directors where allowed to tell this kind of story with a franchise as large as this one and their passion really showed. My only gripe is that I honestly wish that they casted Death as Benecio del Toro or someone with his type of voice. Death sounded a little young imo and although he had so many good lines. (especially at the end) I just felt his voice failed him. Also Kiki I just wanted to say I've been a happy subscriber for about a year now and that your videos really have helped me deal with my own issues and made me a more empathetic person. Wherever your life takes you, I hope its full of happiness and joy. Ps I loved your recent camio in toonrifictariq's video!
All the love in the world to you Kiki. You say it didn't hit as hard for you a month later because you're not hearing that wolfs whistle anymore, that just goes to show the internal personal progress you have made and will continue to make until you someday, whenever it may be, you forget what that whistle ever sounded like.
Maybe it's me getting older but even that animation at the beginning where Puss is fighting the giant had me getting kind of emotional. Nevermind the scene where Perrito comforts Puss or the resolution with Goldie Locks and the bears. Just seems like a movie made with so much meaning and it shows through every frame. Needless to say I'm glad I watched this at home and not in the theater crying in front of strangers. Excellent video!
God, the way you connect Puss's arc in this story to your own recent experiences, and the fact I can just HEAR you tearing up near the end... You really know how to hit me in the feels. 😭
this has made it into my fave movies of all time! the way you talk about it is beautiful, thank you for celebrating such a perfect film~ the way you talk about how much you relate to it made me happy. the moment you got all chocked up also made me emotional🥺 ... love u, kiki, please be happy always!!!
My family watched Avatar 2 before this movie because my father wanted to watch Cameron's movie. But the week before I went back to college I convinced them to watch this movie. Glad I did, it's gorgeous and one of my favorites. The animation is fantastic especially the final confrontation with the wolf imo. Also, that whistling is straight up iconic. While this movie wasn't lifechanging for me (that title belongs to a videogame), it reinforces an idea I already had come to. Life can be terryfing, frustraiting, uncertain; but it can also have a lot of good things that make it worth it. But to find out, you have to try, and now I'm willing to try.
What video game might that be? The closest I think I've had that for a video game is Mother 3, but not to such an extent of the effect this movie is currently having on me for over a month now
@@GalekC it was Night In The Woods. I bought it on June last year for my birthday. I think it had such an impact on me because I was struggling with some things the characters deal with in the story. I guess the game is not as universal as the movie, but it has helped a lot of people as well. It's also full of charm. It made me come to the conclusion of "life might not be always pretty, but it's still worth it" among others.
I didn’t expect such a touching video about “that cat movie” when I started it, but now I’m sniffly and a little teary eyed! It’s beyond words but the feeling that THAT piece of media that makes you find comfort in your situation. My best animated example has to be Violet Evergarden, it really showed me someone who’s as naive and weak as I felt push beyond it and find purpose. I really did “pick it up”! (Ok now I really am crying lol)
I noticed that your voice was breaking at the end of this video, while you spoke about Puss’s decision to pick up the sword, and how this movie saved you, making you realize that life was still worth fighting for, and I just wanted to give you a hug 🥺 I don’t know you, I only saw another “Puss in Boots” video essay and clicked on it, but I hope that you’re okay 🤍 You’re a wonderful speaker and I loved listening to you talk about this beautiful movie and how much it impacted you 💖
This movie was masterful and criminally under advertised. I loved every character. There have been really good animated movies in recent years but nothing that spoke to me like this since Into the Spiderverse. Great review. Keep up thebgreat work. 👏🏾👏🏾🤩👏🏾👏🏾
Rewatching this films a couple times after the horrid theater experience I had with The Last Wish when I first saw it definitely skyrocketed my love for the film tenfold. ❤ Amazing analysis, Kiki.
This movie is my favorite this year alone, and truly shows what animation and storytelling can do and that it has no age range or limitations. It's relatable on so many levels, and you made a lot of great points that showcase that. The one line of "Pick it up" was portrayed and embedded into the story so well, and you explained it in deeper detail of why that is beautifully. It isn't always easy to keep going, to "pick it up" and find the strength and hope to keep taking those steps forward no matter what life you've lived, but it's so special that movies and stories such as this one can impact everyone, and at times even save those who truly need it the most. Thank you for making this video, seriously thank you and for all that you do! Know that you're awesome, and you're doing great even when things get tough. Never stop being you, because you are only one of many, many, many unique and infinite stars that make the universe shine! ♥️
You keeping in the lines where you got choked up was such a brave and great thing to do. Thank you for sharing that vulnerability, it was much appreciated. On another note, I think I want “Pick it up” to be in my next tattoo. 😊
Pick it up Kiki. Pick it up. Ngl you are someone I look up to mainly because I feel your heart. I get scared saying a compliment or maybe how I feel about you as a person because we are strangers. But I want to say "Thank you for making content. Thank you for existing. And I thank whoever, led me here. I really love this channel a lot. I really hope people see how amazing you truly are!"
Thank you for making this video. The day after I saw this movie, I recommended it to everyone around me. They thought I was joking, if they asked why I'd just tell them it's a good movie. Truth is I'm very bad at being serious around others. I don't tell anyone about my circumstances because I prefer making people laugh than making people worry. Though seeing this film in the theatre after a few bad months broke my composure very easily. I don't really know why I'm writing this, I guess listening to somebody I don't know open up about the same predicament motivated me to write a bit. I'm not that great at opening up so I might delete this later in the week. Just wanted to let you know I'm really grateful for getting to watch this video. Edit: Just wanted to apologise for making people read a whole thesis on my emotional destruction to a cat cartoon
I never imagined in a million years that a sequel to an 11-year old average spinoff to the shrek series could could have so many wins. This was well-put together!
Woah. I didn't expect that emotional conclusion to this video. Thanks for putting your emotions on the table like that. I also appreciate how focused this video is. Not once did you touch on Jack Horner being a hilariously iredeemable jerk. And I LOVE Jack Horner. But you hit the nail right on the head with this one. Bravo.
Came here to watch this video just to hear someone say "pick it up." Not for the first time today either. Those three words might honestly be the thing that's keeping me going right now.
Have been avoiding that movie, now I'll give it a shot. The movie "soul" saved me. Watched it when I was at my lowest and the deep meaning of the movie touched me.
This video was awesome! I saw the movie and I was moved but, the action was so intense that I almost didn’t know why. Your review helped me figure that out.
Pretty crazy to think that a 11-year sequel to a forgettable Shrek spin-off film would end up being one of the best animated films to come out in years, maybe even ever. I didn’t expect to cry and rethink my life during a freaking Puss in Boots movie 😅 Wonderful movie for real!
I think the wolf, Death, is not a villain and it's understandable but not correct to call him that. He's an antagonist, and probably better described as a psychopomp calling itself death. Little difference in the later, but in the former that's a big deal. Puss is afraid of him because he's mysterious and clearly more than his match, making the last life issue have more stakes. As far as a character he's more like a force that just is. So, appropriate. I never got the impression that Puss truly outmatched Death. Its more like as he showed off his character improvements and physically kept up with a rising bar Death essentially tested him and chose not to overpower and just take the cat. I loved the visuals showing the test, so beautiful.
Hey hey hey este analisis esta pegando muy fuerte cerca de casa What i meant is that this movie analisys hit close home, understand you in every way, and this is coming from the cats movie😂❤
What's your favorite movie in the Shrek franchise?
Shrek Forever After
for me it was the 2th
The OG is still my favorite, but I haven't watched them in so long.
Technically, this one. If it's gotta be an actual Shrek, the second one.
The first two, and of course, this.

I completely agree, I was rendered an emotional mess throughout at the sheer passion for animation and storytelling bursting from every frame.

This makes me even more excited to go see this. I love puss, he looks just like my cat 😢 she also has a big ego and anti-authority streak in her
This is such a beautiful summary 💜
I wish you the best and I hope to take back my life from my own self loathing
Great video essay💕 always look foward to your future uploads

Death IS a villain. You ignore everything he says and does.
@@cynxmanga There's a difference between antagonist and villian.
