If you know anybody getting on Accutane or if you’re still on it. Use Mary Kay emollient night cream. It’s like pink Vaseline. You’ll never have a dry lip while on Accutane.

You can't. I always carried blistix in my pocket. My lips were darkened for at least 1 year after I was done with the treatment. My lips had a dark ring around them that looked like I used a colored pencil to draw it on.

I was on accutane for six months and all you need to know is moisturise moisturise moisturise! My sister didn't suffer with dryness as much as me but it really dried out my entire body and I used to have combination oily skin before and now my skin is dry dehydrated. Also make sure you stay out of the sun and wear factor 50 even if you're not in the sun for very long. I hope it works well for you because it completely cured mine and mine was completely covering my face badly because mine was genetic. Good luck!!!

I HATE eczema, it's awful feeling like what covers your whole body can just suddenly turn against you based on differing factors such as foods, allergens, allergy days. During Fall I have this thing where if I scratch the itchy skin around my eyes my whole face swells up and I have to go to urgent care and get 2 shots to bring it back down. I heard once that irritated skin means an overwhelmed liver and immune system, so sometimes I take a liver cleanse supplement.

Hey! I hope this doesn’t seem like a silly question, but why is accutine controversial and what are the side effects? Luckily I don’t have acne so don’t really know about it. However, I couldn’t agree more with what you said about it effecting people’s mental heath. This is probably sounding silly but I would say I’m lucky and have fairly nice skin, but when I get spots, they are pretty bad. And it really does have a negative impact on me and I don’t want to see anyone or go out! And it really does show that things like acne really do effect people!

If you’re female, they make you take a pregnancy test before each month of capsules, it causes severe facial abnormalities in foetuses & you HAVE to abort if you become pregnant the entire time you’re taking it & 6 months to a year after you’ve stopped taking it.

Once you get some of those pimples that are bothering you sorted you will feel much better. I always tend to find that people with oily acne prone skin retain a lot of suppleness and a glow that is quite youthful. It's unfortunate that breakouts can get in the way. My twin sister was prescribed accutane a couple years ago to treat acne and it really helped her. She has such clear skin now and she was so happy with the results and said its worth dealing with the nasty side-effects. The main thing for her was dry skin and scalp, she would get cracks a corners of her lips, her deramtologist recommended O'Keeffe's Lip Repair lip balm. THIS LIP BALM IS LIFE CHANGING. It helps so much with cracked lips for her and so I to tried it (just to use as my every day lip balm), it's inexpensive as has such a lovely non heavy feel on your lips. I really recommend you try it while taking accutane. I also want to say I cherish watching your videos, they help me read after a long day at uni (I study dentistry) and it is so great that you seek out publicly about your skin issues and about the true causes and treatments associated with acne. Good luck with your accutane journey, I wish you all the best (and glowing skin) x

I did put lip balm on my lips and vasaline in my nose with cotton swab and I used a saline nasal spray to keep nostrils moist. I did lotion up my body except my face. I constantly drank water and I swear it wasn’t enough because my big toenail on my left foot fell off because the skin underneath got too dry. Crazy right? Luckily it grew back 100% but took a whole year (I have very long toenail beds). Stay out of the sun like you are allergic to it. The dry skin was the worst part. My lips were red raw. The only thing that really worked for me was the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream. Just keep applying, don’t pick and try to drink loads of water. The good thing about dry skin is my hair dried out so I only needed to wash once a week, if that! The Weleda original skin food is also a really good thick moisturiser I used on my face at night. I know there are some scary side effects but the only one I had was dry skin, other than that I didn't notice a difference at all so try not to worry as you might be totally fine. It works so quickly and like permanently, I did not get spots at all afterwards. For my dry lips honestly I just used straight face moisturiser right onto my lips, couldn't find a lip balm that did the job.
Also I know what you mean about discussing how acne impacts you mentally, I often felt like I was being silly but it is really hard. Would just like to say, i had severe acne and honestly accutane was the best thing i ever did, nothing else worked, and my skin has never looked so good ever!!! Definitely worth it, regardless of what people say its well worth it and the side effects dont necessarily affect everyone... I noticed i developed depression, but there are ways to manage that worst case scenario. Also very important!! Moisturise and always have lip blam wit you every where you go! You will definitely need it!!

    Hi Grace,
I've been following you for years and never commented, but this video really struck a chord! I've now been off accutane for exactly two years. It's a tough old journey - but I can promise you it is so, so worth it. The biggest side effect for me was deffo the dry lips/dry skin and also aches in my back. For lips I recommend 'Blistex MedPlus' - it comes in a blue pot and it's a LIFESAVER. I still use it now two years later. Also, E45 intense recovery moisturiser (it's got a red lid) SAVED my actual skin. Just stick with the accutane - the first two/three months are the hardest (it deffo gets worse before it gets better), but it gets easier.. ooooh, and take progress pictures!!!! It's so nice to look back on them and see how far you've come. Sending lots of love xx

Just want to thank you so so much for being out there about your skin and showing it anyway without covering it up for all this time. When I was your age I had cystic acne covering my entire face to the point where I couldn't leave the house without "covering it up;" though it was so damn bad it just looked like a bad spackle job. I would sometimes wear makeup overnight because I felt so down about it and couldn't stand to wake up and look at it. I know, ridiculous. But you confronting it honestly and not covering it up was empowering to my younger self even now that it's far better (though the scars remain) and I'm far older. It helped me come to terms with it if that makes sense? I think you're lovely and honest and open and you have shown your struggle with it but have also shown your viewers that how one looks has no bearing on who one is as a person or how one should be/is valued in the world. Thanks, Grace. You are a role model for so many.

I finished accutane in June and was on it for almost a year and it changed my life! I didn’t have that many side effects mainly just dry skin and really dry lips. Vaseline was my best friend and I went through so much of it, for my face (and other patches of dry skin that popped up on my arms and legs) I used Epiderm at first. Then when I wanted to use a lighter moisturiser I started using Cetaphil. I would also recommend not using any soaps/cleansers on your face while you’re taking it I literally just used warm water and a face cloth. Good luck and I hope it works as well for you as well! Xx

I was on acutane a few years ago, I had hard deep cystic spots all over my face and I could barely wash my face because it was so painful. I could only manage four months of acutane as the symptoms were so bad for me, I became really depressed and angry and I'd cry all the time. That said, this is the best wonder drug. All of my painful cyst spots went away and now a few years later my skin is no longer dry, im back to oily/combo skin and I still get the odd spot on my chin but no where near as bad as what I used to have. I get the odd one now instead of a face full. It is such a journey on Acutane but I know what its like having bad acne so I wish you well! Would recommend the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour intensive lip repair balm and also Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm (there is a lip balm version but the actual skin balm is SO good for lips too and comes in a bigger bottle!). I found my eyes became a bit dry too so used eye drops in the mornings/evenings which really helped. Also SUN CREAM SUN CREAM SUN CREAM. My lips dried out so bad they would crack and bleed within the hour if I didn’t have my lip balm. Also as others have said, if you must go outside try to protect yourself as much as possible to protect your skin! Acutane sunburns are no joke! I also had some hair loss but nothing major. We are all here for you! For some people, including myself, Acutane can bring on depression like symptoms within the first few weeks. Make sure you talk to someone and understand that what you are feeling isn’t real and will go away with time. Feel free to message me with any questions! I’ve been through the acne ringer ❤️ I have also been diagnosed with dairy protein sensitivity and auto immune problems, once we had those under control it was a lot “easier” to control the flares of acne as well, so I wonder if that’s connected at all. M Ski well it was my dermatologist who told me this, he studied the skin and skin diseases etc so I’m guessing he knows a thing or two.

Hi! This is the best idea, it changed my life. I ended my 6 month course of roacutane 2 months ago. I was on 50mg for the majority of the time, the best lip balm is Elizabeth Arden 8hour cream or blistex! Paw paw is also great. Moisturisers you want completey fragrance free, I used Roche posay intense moisture and it worked amazingly. A good hydrating face mask for every other night to sleep in is the best (and they last ages). Also get eye drops as your eyes can get incredibly dry. Good luck! You’ll be fine!!! They say it’s worse than it is.

Wow, this comments section is gold - all the sunscreen reccos! You're a doll, Grace. Spots don't change that, but I know how big of a deal skin issues can be (rosacea here, still trying to find what works!), so I really hope Accutane works for you! A good friend used it years ago and it totally turned his skin around.

i was on it for 6 months a couple of years ago, and i would recommend getting the cerave moisturizing cleanser and their moisturizing creams as well, as those were the only ones that didn't make my skin burn. i would recommend the decubal lips and dry spots balm for your lips, best one i've ever tried, and i wish i knew about it when i was on accutane. i would also recommend moisturizing your entire body after you shower, because it's not only the skin on your face that dries out. i really hope it works for you, and that you won't have horrible side effects! i personally suffered with a lot of side effects, but it was all worth it in the end

I haven't watched the video yet, but I want to share something I learned through my experience taking Accutane. You have probably read that Accutane can disrupt the gut microbiome. Given that you already have a dairy allergy/sensitivity, you probably already have a somewhat compromised gut (this is usually the cause of allergies/sensitivities). Please work a naturopath who can work with you to make sure you keep your microbiome balanced with the appropriate probiotics (this is not guesswork - you need to be tested for strain deficiencies). A dermatologist will know NONE of this. Accutane was very helpful to me, but I wish there would have been more information on this back when I took it 20 years ago. I might have avoided some massive health issues I developed thanks to a compromised microbiome (which have since been corrected thanks to a naturopath). Best of luck to you!! I know how incredibly frustrating skin issues are, and I hope that this gives you the results you want!! P.S. Lansinoh really is awesome. Used it while breastfeeding and it was a life saver!

Hi Grace! That feeling you were describing with acne is so true, I’ve dealt with acne for quite some time and these days it’s kind of under control, let’s say. But that’s exactly what you were trying to describe, just feeling down and all. I love that you are talking about this and know that you’re not alone in this! Although I think you look quite confident with your skin anyway and believe me, your confidence conceals your acne completely ! I think you look great with and without it! I’m happy for you that you decided to go on accutane, not an easy choice but you’ll feel great when this is over 😊

You should watch Hyram to learn ab skin care! I’ve been obsessed with him and I am addicted to his specialist reacts series but he has a lot of educational vids about what products you should use for what

AAAAAA I'M SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!!!!! I went on it in 2018 and it was so so SO worth it. like it boosted my confidence SOOOOOO much!!!!!! the dryness was ongoing whilst i was on it but completely manageable. i used a cotton bud and put vaseline in my nostrils to stop them cracking/bleeding (keeping tissues on you in case of that is defo a good idea), keep an army of extra strength lip balms on you at all times (i personally used blistex cold sore cream - never got cold sores, but it helped with skin around my mouth cracking, i also used carmex and o'keeffes lip repair balm) and a good hand cream! the best one i came across was flexitol hand balm, which i used on my face too! of course the side effects affect everyone differently but still, i feel like it's good to share this kinda stuff you find out anyway!

It made me sad that you felt you had to justify your decision about your body, as people on the internet can be so judgmental. I'm a clinical pharmacist, and I understand how big of a decision isotretinoin is, and I hope it goes really well for you.

Am I the only one that thinks the overalls (dungarees?) and white shirt are cute?! Especially with like rolled cuff knee or shorts length overalls! Or a skort style overall with the white shirt!?! SO CUTE! And hair curled or in a big loose braid! 😍 You are beautiful inside and out, Grace ❤ You could pull it off!
