    Britain follows countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Sri Lanka Malaysia, Brazil, to name just a few. Could have had these for decades and experienced the cost saving, counterfeit difficulties, security features and banknote longevity for decades.

      Oh, yeah. Invented in the 1980s, fully replaced the notes of the Australian Dollar back in the 1990s. We've been saving money on reprinting our banknotes due to their longer lifespan (about 2.5x the paper ones) for over 20 years now.

    Its odd imho that the 5 pound has received such a make over , In all my years of dealing with funny money is that its almost always the 10 & 20 pound note that is forged, I dont think I have ever seen a fake fiver, something I always was after as no one checks them (well hardly)

      Sopana Vathanamohan well then perhaps I should of added "why the fiver first" , so people like yourself do not need to be so facetious.

      I wouldn't count on it. Metal coins are more durable and more useful, as you can design vending machines to make use of magnetic properties to identify which coin they've been fed.

      No we're not. I was glad to handle them again after dealing with the funny paper notes in Europe. Paper notes feel flimsy. Plastic ones feel REAL!

      Nope, but people do spill boiling hot tea or coffee by accident onto themselves and washing machines tend to get pretty hot along with tumble dryers.

    • @4TheRecord
      @4TheRecord 7 років тому

      Known someone who spilt a boiling cup of coffee on a 20 pound note by accident. Didn't see it disintergrate but it did stain slightly. Shop still accepted it afterwards.

    Why's it taken/taking so long? This has been on the cards for years and all four notes won't be finished until 2020?!
    I think it's high time we saw more use of £50 notes. Cash dispensers could hold far more cash if they had £50 notes in them. If withdrawing £200, or indeed more, surly two or three fifties in that would be OK.

    • @Roxor128
      @Roxor128 7 років тому

      £50 notes seem about as rare in Britain as $100 notes are here in Australia. I visited in April of 2016 and I don't remember ending up with anything larger than a £20 note out of an ATM.

    I bet the £20 never goes polymer. "High value" notes like £20s will be cancelled. Next stop "cashless economy". You will be forced into being a creditor of the bank. No taking your money out of the bank ever again.
