Sadly I never got to travel on the line but have visited many places on the route and it sure is picturesque. A travesty it was closed but IÉ got what they wanted in the end...
How do you mean you would have been in trouble? They may have been short of cash but the level of track maintenance in particular back then was no where near what was required.
Ah right get you! As the report stated 'grandfather rights' applied to a lot of lines. It was down to a very lax attitude if you ask me. The line down here in the mid 90s was in a very unsafe condition from what I saw of it at close hand.
Very much so, in those days jointed track still accounted for a large part of the network and was in poor shape, nowadays the network is almost completely formed of welded rail of a much higher standard.
Waterford to rosslare was one of the nicest stretch of line in the country.

If closed railway lines were reopened it would be safer.
Nice One !
Thanks :)
